I think there are some good Lovecraft movies, but they're mostly in the indie/fan-film arena. Die Farbe (The Color Out of Space) from 2010 and The Call of Cthulhu (2005) & The Whisperer in Darkness (2011), for a few examples. Man, Planes Trains & Automobiles. Classic. Still holds up. No levels?! Excellent. Never liked levels. Roll under. Also a bonus. As someone else mentioned, I like the way DCC does advantage and disadvantage, but you really need the "funky" dice for that. I think using a smaller die D4/D6 as a bonus/subtraction makes sense. I like the key words thing. I'm a fan of roll equal to or less than the target as opposed to less than the target, but that's just the way my brain works. Agreed on the 2 or 3 rounds for combat. Man, if a combat goes on longer, be me the player or the GM...gah. I get so bored and annoyed. Granted, I often run Call of Ctulhu, where combat rarely lasts longer than one round.
I think DCC had thr best version of advantage/disadvantage. Sure it sucks needing special dice but they work EASILY with roll under and roll over systems.
Yeah, glad you're bringing this back. Thinking that maybe matching the number, which is a failure or miss or whatever, lets the character learn from the experience, so it's sort of nice to roll in the long term. Maybe, I don't know. I like that there's always a window of missing even for someone who has a high attribute. Also, classless is great, I think the trick with keywords will be having a good selection that feels like it'll fit with a given campaign, but the cool thing about it is you don't need to run to a book to figure out new ones. Despite my misgivings with Fate that's one thing in its favor, the mechanical flexibility-- rather than someone rolling up an arctic druid and they never wind up going to the arctic, you can switch things around pretty easily. As far as rolling for spells, would there be special rules or would it align with attribute tests? Looking forward to more
@@Thegaminggang Would be cool if there were different spell schools or even individual spells that hooked up with attributes other than (just) INT and WIS. STR for lifting a huge boulder, CHA for an illusion of hideousness. Maybe, maybe not, but been toying with the idea myself...
Love that you are bringing back the "Build" series! Keep 'em coming!
More to come!
Thumbs up for restarting the "Let's build" series. Looking forward to episode 2 and seeing how things will evolve.
I always liked the attributes from Aftermath! and Bushido: Strength, Health, Speed, Deftness, Wit and Will. Also both D20 roll under systems.

I like the dice type advantage and supplies stat.
Dagon is a great HPL movie, and Netflix' Cabinet of Curiosities has a few HPL shorts and influenced episodes.
I like it, another free RPG.

Nice thoughts on the game, had the same thought about making a roll under system, look forward for more

Hey are you going to host the SRD for this game on the gaming gang website?
We'll probably start linking to a PDF once we iron more out. ~ Jeff
