    I loved Byron Bay. I went in January 2020. I walked a lot around all the beaches. I also rented a surfboard and it was great.

    Gather round kiddies for this little story........ used to surf heaps way way down Belongil past the old golf course. On this one day surfing alone 4 - 5 foot offshore beautiful mechanical right hand bank wave after wave barrelled off my guts for a good hour and a half then I’m sitting out the back, water crystal clear perfect sunny day I’m waiting for the next set when right in front of me just under the water this easily 4 metre great white cruises past me heading north. Clearly not hungry and no doubt having a little look see at me and what I was. I made no movement then when it was gone caught a wave in and went home. And yep I was freaked right out trust me. Stay safe Groovers ☮️❤️

      Geez what an epic story Gustavo! I've seen a few sharks up Belongil way and further north - there used to be a whaling station there back in the day and apparently the bigger sharks still cruise along the deep channel which runs north.
      Still...it's best not to think about that hey?! 😜

      @@StokedForTravel yep gotta not think about it ! Listening on the radio a few years ago to a professor at southern cross uni who has studied sharks and their behaviour for years. He was saying great white live “in the bay” till their up to 3 metres then those juveniles go out past the reefs of cape byron and join the adults of up to 6 metres. He said the whites have “learned behaviour”. Remembering when they are hungry those legs of surfers they see when their chasing bait fish, salmon etc closer to shore when we surf so when there isn’t a lot of fish around that’s usually why they come right in looking for a feed and unfortunately it’s surfers, swimmers they attack and or eat. A lot of sharks “test bite” us to see what we are and off they go. Bull sharks, tiger sharks and whites are the most aggressive dangerous ones to humans. Cheers, stay safe ☮️❤️😂

      @@gustavobro2484 indeed I've heard something similar actually. Unfortunatetly it seems over fishing also pushes them closer to shore and its the juvies learning their place and feeding options that cause the issue. Still, you're more likely to get killed crossing the road to get to the beach than in the water!

    The best beaches in Byron, any that have sand on them.

      @StokedForTravel  3 роки тому

      Hahaha! I’m assuming that you’re referring to the news reports about the last big swell “washing Byron away”?!
      Yes there was heaps of dune loss and a part of main beach was pretty badly eroded, but I’m stoked to say the beach has recovered quite quickly 😊
