Agreed! I heard it was the Ault's that put them up. Unfortunately people are rude and disrespectful to the land, trashing it and I believe that is why they did it. It just isn't the same anymore 😔. I miss the tours and the little convenient store too.
Again a great video! When my husband and I used to live at the Dugway Proving Ground, there were many a weekend we'd drive to Tooele, or Mercur or Ophir. Further south, there a few more old mining towns that are fun to go to as well. There is another old mining town almost to the top of the mountain above Ophir, at least it used to be in the 1970's, but even back then it was extremely difficult to get up there. Its probably all gone now since it's been 50 years since I was up there. The road was almost non-existent even back then and a bit of a hike as well. I'm almost 70 and can't remember the name of that little town. Thank you for bringing back memories of Ophir!
@@ghosttownsandmore Great! I know where Mercur is, south of Ophir . We used to go wander around Mercur back in the mid 1970's and the still had buildings there, although the actual town had burned down. The one I was talking about was to the North of Ophir up on the mountain above. Eureka is another place that's fun. There used to be a bar that during Prohibition, they would hide the booze in a well that was in the bar itself. I don't know it its still there.
@@lindabriggs5118 oh I’ve been to Jacob city! My dad took us there when I was about 9? There was remnants of an old hotel that collapsed or burnt down? I actually found an old vintage toothbrush with a little bit of bristles still on it- kept it for years but got rid of it! :(
@@amandagallacher8173 From what I have read since I lived in Utah, was that it had collapsed due to the winter weather up that high. I always wanted to go there but when we finally bought a 4x4 pickup, we had moved to Emery County and never got around to it. Besides, Emery and Carbon counties had their own ghost towns and such to explore. 😄
Very interesting. I'm fascinated with ghost towns.
It’s to bad most of the canyon has been blocked off with concrete barricades, it used to be a fun canyon.

@@mellisarich Thats exactly why our family put up barriers, PRIVATE PROPERTY means just that. People cant respect that so we had to do it!

Mercur used to be above and over the hill from Ophir, but all traces of it are all gone. We have many more towns coming for you!
