Dude thank you so very much for that demo comparison. I have been endlessly searching for an effect pedal to drop tune my guitars so that I don't have to keep one of them set up that way permanently. I was set on the Morpheus, but may take the cheap shot at the Behringer without concern for financial loss if it doesn't work out. And for those who downgrade Behringer's "build quality," you might abuse your equipment but I respect mine. Besides i've heard so damn many people talk about them being plastic and scared they will break, but i've yet to hear someone say that one actually has.
I have a six string guitar and i was searching for alternate drop tunnings without having to change strings, setup etc. I was ready to spend my money on the Moderus ...until viewing this video.I realized i was just a victim of the new marketing.I bought the behringer and i have to say that it does the job perfectly for 1/4 the price.Thank you very much for posting this video!
Actually I wanna take my words back because I had digitech drop now I have pitchfork and after i bought myself a Behringer i can tell for sure that Behringer is peace of crap with delay and volume drop. But my biggest disappointment is none of them sounds and feels like a guitar tuned to certain pitch. You gotta have at least two guitars for E & drop D and B & drop A. And for low tunings it’ll be a compromise either super thick strings or super long neck 😭
I have two of these behringer pedals. I just use them for whammy down. I have one set for a whole step, and another for a octave drop. When using it as a whammy drop end the note before the sweep ends. It's sounds convincing ;-)! You can get some nice slide and steel guitar effects, I tend to drop them in my playing. Great review man, this is a winner from behringer. Apparently you can add a expression pedal as we'll.
Have to say, after watching 100's of these videos, you are the most interesting demonstrator I've ever seen. You don't pander to people, you shoot pretty straight. Thanks for doing this video. I'm looking at a PS-5 (on Craigslist), but, I might just find a Behringer...
A good honest review, thanks. Behringer often gets a lot of negative comments in forums, not because people have tried Behringer products but because they have heard other people saying negative things about Behringer and they adopt these opinions as their own. It's good to see a great value Behringer guitar pedal get a good review by somebody who has actually tried it.
all these pedals are nice to have, the behringer I am picking up myself, but not for drop tuning reasons. If you are going to play in a band with drop tunings, get a higher guage string and down tune. if you are using the behringer for harmonies, well, then thats a good direction. great review btw, very clear in explanations
I appreciate this review Sup & thank you for it. I was very interested in the Morpheus & now I know I'll be getting the Behringer because that's the one that makes sense. I didn't even know Behringer had this. Thanks for saving me a lil cash bro. No you can't please everybody & there's always one in the bunch that'll let you know it lol. Thanks again Sup.
Thanks a lot for this video Gary !! I've just discovered these pedals like 15 minutes ago and i was ready to order my morpheus pedal right when i saw what it could do, but after seeing this video i probably will buy the Behringer since it's much cheaper and as good ! Thanks for making me save 100$ gary !
Thanks Gary, you just sold me a Behringer. I am working a guitar mod to down an octave on the 5 and 6 strings only. Run the signal through a bass amp. This is for backing singers and busking tunes at pub gigs etc. Used to use a Midi bass with midi guitar but they have died of old age. Just need to find a pickup for 2 strings only. Thanks!
Good for you ,these were my experiences and conclusions as well. The PS-5 was a disappointment all the way around. The US600 has a delay included as a feature also. Very cool vid, great info, thanks.
Hey bro i was wondering if the Behringer can handle drop tunes and its not true bypass right? i have the morpheus drop tune and like it im just seeing if there was somthing even better so i can record almost perfectly with out de tuning the strings. Also i saw the reviews on the dejitech whammy was really good for drop tune
Great review - I wish more were like this Very clear comparison of the sound, allowing it to ring out and sustain. Much more useful than just rabbiting on about features or making flashy noise. Well presented - excellent job!
I've been using the Behringer US600 for a couple of months now. It works great, but it raises the noise floor significantly and is by far the noisiest pedal I have ever had in my signal chain (even when it's turned off). It also doesn't track dissonant chord voicings very well (I get tons of artifacts on certain voicings). I am considering replacing it with the morpheus, however, I have a couple of questions.
Awesome video! Looks like I'm going to buy a US600! I already have a Digitech Whammy 4 that I never use.. I guess its obsolete now that all these other pedals are out.. I wonder how the new whammy DT holds up against these?
Solid review and demo. I'm subscribing to see more content from you! I have always wondered if it's disorienting to be playing in one pitch and hearing your pick on the strings, and having a different pitch coming out of your amp? Maybe a moot point at high volume, but at practice levels, I'd think between the latency and dissonance, it would be distracting. I really liked the stutter effect on the Morpheus by the way!
I recently got the Behringer US600, and it sounds really good! I was able to compare it with a Boss PS5 and the Behringer sounds a lot better! Kind more "warm" and not so glitchy as the Boss. The only modus which sounds better on the PS5 is the Harmonizer, which is not so erratic and wobbly as on the US600. The Bypass is not so good on the Behringer (there's like an half second void when turning the pedal on/off, but a true bypass box/looper will do the trick), but I'm using this unit as a table top to effect synths, so it's a point I don't care so much about. for 40-50$ it's a steal!
How is the latency compared to the US600? Can it track chords like dimished, flat-5, etc without the warbly digital artifacts? Does it raise the noise floor much (if at all)?
hi got a quick question for you...i generally have my guitar in drop d tuning...if i picked up the behringer could i use that to drop it down to drop a? i love my low sounds :-) please reply man...cheers :-)
Gary I think you helped give more comfort in the Behringer line. I think I might get a harmonist/shifter pedal. Can you use a external switcher pedal to change tones live?
What are some pitch-shifting pedals that can make micro tonal adjustments (instead of just semitones)? I play a Strat, and I noticed that when I break a string, the tension at the bridge makes my strings sharp by about 25-30 cents (but they're all still in tune with each other), and it would be handy to have a pedal on standby that could bring my guitar back into tune for the rest of the song. My POD as a function where you can tune to 10-cent intervals, but i don't think I've ever seen a standalone pedal with that function.
This might sound like an amateur question but I'm not too clued up on pedals: I've got an electric sitar to play with a britrock band, kinda like Oasis or The Beatles or something. The sitar is tuned to a key, mine is generally in A. Can I use this pedal to tune UP a key?
Thank you for posting this video. It was very interesting. We are looking into dropping a half step so that I can sing a full nights show. The half step is just enough and it is not overly noticeable. My guitar players are concerned that dropping their tuning on their Gibsons and Fenders may be detrimental to the guitar neck and therefore we are looking for electronic counter measures. Any thoughts on this concern?
Really nice demo. Question, and maybe a dumb one ... what's the symbol at the rear of your guitar mean? Just curious as I just saw it on the Rebel Scum pedal ... Anyone?
I would still go with the Morpheous droptune because it is much easier when you need to switch between multiple tunings on stage. because all you have to do is hit a button a few times max and you can have any tuning you want. And they have updates you can download from the morpheous website to make it sound a little clearer which i really like.
Hey Gary, With the Behringer are you able to use the pitch shift function at 1 and 2 semitones above? I have one myself and when I go above on mine it skips to 3 above. My guitar is tuned to D standard right now and I'm trying to see if I can use pitch shift to move to C# standard, C standard, D# standard, and E standard without moving the tuning pegs on my guitar. Is this possible? My Behringer only allows C# and C standard but when I try to go up it brings me to F standard.
@relax235 only conventional way you could do this, that I am familiar with, is through MIDI. there are plenty of examples of being able to set, say, your E, A and D strings to sound like a bass while the G, B and E are set to a piano or keyboard setting. through a MIDI program you may be able to set just one string for a detuned effect. another thing that comes to mind is the Voice Capo. check it out, you might find it to be what you need
please explain how to use the behringer pedal to drop in half steps. I bought it based on this review and so far it has been worthless.and the instructions are really vague.please help !
hi, I was planing to buy a morpheus drop tune but i havent got enough money to get it and i want a harmonist too... So i am planing to buy behringer us600 but i have a question: Is this pedal transparent or in other words: when we use it for drop tuning does it has any effects of our original tone's gain ? thanks :)
Dude, thank you and congratulations for the video instructions! But to see other videos, I wondered ... I want a pedal droptune, that's all! I want to know about the Behringer US600, can I use it just for that??? I want to lower tunings for my guitar, without fiddling in tuning them ... TKS!!!
@AwesomeFunnyFilms I just bought it: two probs: latency in drop tunings and with expression pedal EV5 doesn't work properly - I've tried ALL possible combinations and it only goes from a 3rd to a dim 5th above the signal. No octave whammy stuff ;( any suggestions? Thanks a lot for the reviev.
Hi there thank you for the demo.. question, just dropping a 1/2step how is the beringer? I have the morph but it is the ood ball in my pedal board cuz it needs 12v etc. i only use the the morph for 3 tunes so it does the behringer stand up to the morph for 1/2step dropping..? thanks again..
the chord wasn't clear in the behringer and it had that 'wobble' to it cause you had the flutter effect on if your settings were at what the picture showed.
ummm, am i right in saying that the boss pedal is set to flutter? from the shot you showed i think it is set to flutter s that would explain the "flutter", or am i wrong?
It would be a lot easier to hear the amount of artifacts each pedal had if you also played them cleanly. Trying to hear the subtleties through overdrive is like trying to hear a pin drop during a hail storm.
For me probably the best part of this video is when Gary hit the high G string and left it to sustain. And then, comparing the behaviour of that high G string from pedal to pedal. When Gerri used the Behringer, he played E5 that's why it doesn't wobble, break or shake. You see when you play a major full chord, it will wobble and shake. That doesn't happen on a 5th chord. That's why when Gary played E major on the Boss and the Morpheus, the sound was broken and garbled.
I've got the behringer us600 today. I have set the balance on max, but I can still hear the original guitar pitch through the amp when I'm pitchshiftingup or down with the behringer. Do you got the same problem?
@sup1967 I just bought it: two probs: latency in drop tunings and with expression pedal EV5 doesn't work properly - I've tried ALL possible combinations and it only goes from a 3rd to a dim 5th above the signal. No octave whammy stuff ;( any suggestions? Thanks a lot for the reviev.
line 6 has their variax line out that i think you can set custom tunings, along with having a variety of others (drop tunings, whole guitar tunings down, DADGAD, etc). i think peavey makes something along those lines as well.
One thing I notice with the Behringer, it's creating a lot of noise without a proper power supply. I'm using a Roland PSA power supply but it needs a much better one, like a 1Spot or Godlyke, doesn't matter if u daisy chain it or not.
you just cant go wrong with the behringer pedals.yes its all plastic not really sturdy but the quality in sound and price are really unbeatable.my favorite is the up100 ultra phase shifter and i got like 4 of thoose just in case i break one so far its 2years old and still working perfectly, but i dont stomp it i just trigger it with care
That's freakin convinient, i want one, since I drop tune a lot but dun wanna have to actually to drop tune the guitar. I allways have one in drop D but when I want to play in for example drop E I dun wanna have to retune the guitar.
Can any of these pedals be used to droptune a bass and would it sound good? I don't want to have to setup my bass for C# tuning or buy a 5 string. Thanks!!
Me and my bass player already got the us600 last friday for same reason. Great job!! Sounds very clear with my guitar as well with his bass. We bought it for taking the instruments two steps down in order to make things easier to singer.
I've been hearing that the Morpheus' performance is greatly improved by a firmware update, starting somewhere around the time of your video. Did you have the firmware patch installed for this demo? I mean, it already sounded easily the best, but it would be nice to know if the demo is essentially current.
One of the things you have to consider besides warble/wavering is formant/harmonic preservation. Some pitch shifters sound more natural than others because they preserve the timbre of the sound when pitch shifting. Basically what that means is pitch shifting up won't sound nasally and pitch shifting down won't sound muddy and have no high frequencies. If you try using a crappy pitch shifter to "drop tune/detune" your guitar it's gonna sound like shit and it's going to sound like your tone knob has been rolled down.
I have both the morpheus and the super shifter, i think he missed the fact with the boss it has a tone of feature and it basically gives your guitar a flyod rose. but anyways ill probly get the behringer now. behringer makes the some of the best amps and mixers too
Dude thank you so very much for that demo comparison. I have been endlessly searching for an effect pedal to drop tune my guitars so that I don't have to keep one of them set up that way permanently. True, I’ve never heard of a single one breaking.
Excellent demo of the 3... Now off to buy the US600... Thanks dude!!!

Mee too 13 years later none of the new pedals can compares

This video made my day. Thank you. Definitely buying the Behringer US600.
Thanks for this clear and objective demo!
You caNNAAAAT beat this. Thank you guitarist version of Tony Hawk.
I was trying to find out if a thing like the morpheus exists; so thanks for this video.

awesome review - I have the PS-5, and I'm "upgrading" to the Behringer on the strength of this.
This guy is an youtube classic.

Awesome man, really enjoyed this video, I'd love to see more like this. Thanks for saving me a couple hundred bucks!
I don't like this video, I LOVE IT! Thank you so much for the great and simple review.
Great review. I thought the US600 was too good to be true. I'm picking one up tomorrow. Thanks.
Got my Behringer for $30AUD. Best bucks I ever spent, droptune, whammy (T-Arm), and detune are all really nice.
GREAT review man. Very informative. Looks like I'll be picking up the US600 to replace the PS-5 I just sold...
Thanks this was a great comparison!
I've been using the Behringer US600 for a couple of months now. Hey Gary thanks so much for this, you really showed me where to put my bucks on in a plain, straightforward way! Liked & subscribed!
Fantastic presentation
I really have to say, you have the coolest guitar ever.
Great, great review. Thanks man, very informative.
Behringer is very suitable for my budget. So hell yeah , Behringer ftw !!
Awesome video! Looks like I'm going to buy a US600! I already have a Digitech Whammy 4 that I never use.. I guess its obsolete now that all these other pedals are out.. I wonder how the new whammy DT holds up against these?

I can't tell, I've never tried a PitchBok. For drop tuning do for the Digitech Drop! that's the real thing!
i have a behringer us600 and i dont regret buying it.
@sup1967 Thanks man and have u played the new degitech dt?
How is the latency compared to the US600? Can it track chords like dimished, flat-5, etc without the warbly digital artifacts? Does it raise the noise floor much (if at all)?
HA! That lead riff for the Bad Co tune is one of the reasons I bought one of these. Actually I got the Digitech drop.
The picture isn't of the settings he's using on the video. Look at the pedal on the floor: The mode control is set at 8 o'clock.
Which is the best among the 3 pedals to make chords? which one has the cleanest sound making chords?
What do you think of the bypass on the Behringer? Does it damage the sound noticeably or is it a reliable bypass? Excellent review/comparison BTW!
hi got a quick question for you...i generally have my guitar in drop d tuning...if i picked up the behringer could i use that to drop it down to drop a? i love my low sounds :-) please reply man...cheers :-)

My POD as a function where you can tune to 10-cent intervals, but i don't think I've ever seen a standalone pedal with that function.
ShortFingeredShreder you need this not effects.... www.tremol-no.com/
This might sound like an amateur question but I'm not too clued up on pedals:
I've got an electric sitar to play with a britrock band, kinda like Oasis or The Beatles or something. The sitar is tuned to a key, mine is generally in A. Can I use this pedal to tune UP a key?
***** It should work in theory. As long as ur electric sitar works like an electric guitar.
Thank you for posting this video. It was very interesting. We are looking into dropping a half step so that I can sing a full nights show. Great review but am unclear on one thing. Can the Bheringer pitch down to B (to mimic a 7 string)? Thanks!!
Hey Gary,
With the Behringer are you able to use the pitch shift function at 1 and 2 semitones above? I have one myself and when I go above on mine it skips to 3 above. For gigging, the Morpheus makes the most sense since you can step on it, but with the other 2 pedals you’d have to bend over to manually change pitch.
sweet paint job Red Leader
can we hear the harmonizer function on the us600 ?
how come theres no cable plugged into the output of the behringer and the droptune?
dang that growl is bad ass
@relax235 only conventional way you could do this, that I am familiar with, is through MIDI. there are plenty of examples of being able to set, say, your E, A and D strings to sound like a bass while the G, B and E are set to a piano or keyboard setting. through a MIDI program you may be able to set just one string for a detuned effect. another thing that comes to mind is the Voice Capo. check it out, you might find it to be what you need

hi,
I was planing to buy a morpheus drop tune but i havent got enough money to get it and i want a harmonist too... So i am planing to buy behringer us600 but i have a question:

éé, não tem jeito, na maioria das vezes os Behringer são o melhor custo x Benefício, eu tenho 03 e não me arrependo!
@AwesomeFunnyFilms
I just bought it: two probs: latency in drop tunings and with expression pedal EV5 doesn't work properly - I've tried ALL possible combinations and it only goes from a 3rd to a dim 5th above the signal.
Hey! The Expertvillage effect man #1
the chord wasn't clear in the behringer and it had that 'wobble' to it cause you had the flutter effect on if your settings were at what the picture showed.
i like your guitar decoration... the Rebelion logo....
Why didn't use the detune function at the behringer and the boss?
ummm, am i right in saying that the boss pedal is set to flutter? from the shot you showed i think it is set to flutter s that would explain the "flutter", or am i wrong?

Hi! Great test. Can you say anything about signal loss on US600. Can it be used on bass guitar?
Which one had the shorter latency... The Morpheus or the Behringer?
I've got the behringer us600 today. I have set the balance on max, but I can still hear the original guitar pitch through the amp when I'm pitchshiftingup or down with the behringer. Do you got the same problem?
how will the behringer pitch down? Every time a half step and then 1 octave and then 2 octaves or is it different?
@sup1967

But didn't you hear when he played single notes with the Boss pedal? You could hear that same flutter.

were do you buy that jedi guitar i can feel the force
I think you said it but rly wanna be sure, can you go from standard tuning to Eb tuning with the behringer?

Me and my bass player already got the us600 last friday for same reason. Great job!! Sounds very clear with my guitar as well with his bass. We bought it for taking the instruments two steps down in order to make things easier to singer.
@MagniRPetersen Héhé awesome !
That heavy riff that closes out your vid, Who is that ?
I've been hearing that the Morpheus' performance is greatly improved by a firmware update, starting somewhere around the time of your video. Did you have the firmware patch installed for this demo?
I mean, it already sounded easily the best, but it would be nice to know if the demo is essentially current.
would u recomend this for giging if someone did want to take 2 guitars (us600)
and is there a loss in gain?
One of the things you have to consider besides warble/wavering is formant/harmonic preservation. Some pitch shifters sound more natural than others because they preserve the timbre of the sound when pitch shifting.
Basically what that means is pitch shifting up won't sound nasally and pitch shifting down won't sound muddy and have no high frequencies.
If you try using a crappy pitch shifter to "drop tune/detune" your guitar it's gonna sound like shit and it's going to sound like your tone knob has been rolled down.
Anyone try the Morpheus with the 1.2 update and how much of a difference it makes ?.
Hi, can behringer detune as morheus by fixed steps and without any modulations?
Do you know if you can fine tunning you're guitar in A447 or A454 ?
Anyways, I'll just stick to my Variax, allows me to detune individual strings, which is amazing. That behringer pedal is really nice though.
@rickbos What would you buy then?
I have both the morpheus and the super shifter, i think he missed the fact with the boss it has a tone of feature and it basically gives your guitar a flyod rose. but anyways ill probly get the behringer now. behringer makes the some of the best amps and mixers too
GREAT
