- Hey everyone welcome back to the channel. Hopefully many of you will remember this little bright red BMW 1 series that we bought together an embarrassing number of months ago. Well as promised here is the next part of that little cars journey with us......I won't babble on so lets jump in...
As always we appreciate the support of the channel, loving the likes and comments, all the best Kev and Claire.

For anyone wanting to see the auction action of when we bought this car the link is here:

Hopefully that works.
Nice one.👍👍👍 - Авто та транспорт
Sorry if there is a slight delay getting back to comments tonight people, just out at auction atm….ill be back later tonight 👍👍👍thanks for the support 👊👊👊
Interesting video, I always thought of buying from an auction, but with your knowledge and car buying experience, I will give it a miss, , you live and learn!
Nice one Kev, car auctions are scary when you don't know what you're doing for sure.......and turns out they are when you do as well 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Well done, you are doing the right thing getting it put right before selling, so many others may not.
You will add customers to your list from this video alone as the buyers know they can trust you!
Totally admire your integrety and honesty. I would happily buy a car from you!
Thanks Simon appreciate that alot 👊👊nice one 👍👍
It’s great to finally hear the feedback about this car. I had a feeling this was the issue when you said it was bad news. I hope it doesn’t bite you in the butt, even more. Good luck :)
Just another thanks, my mega mileage vehicle sold thanks to your advice 🙏🏼👍🏼😉
Hiya Kev and Claire. I actually like these 118's. Especially one as clean as this one. I havnt seen you for awhile so it's good you put this video out. You wernt too good the last time I saw you. Healthwise. But your looking good now. Best o luck Kev with this one bro. That Shock is Crazy. I never saw that before lol. Great video bro 😅🇨🇮🖐🖐
I see you buy that one Kev , it was selling at £1300 .. couldn’t believe you went all the way !
Hi Kev & Claire 😀 it’s a shame about the series one it looks from the outside like a smart looking little car, i am sure any other dealer would have fixed the spring and sold it on to try and recoup some cash back. But knowing you I know you would not do that because you wouldn’t be able to sleep at night worrying about it. I am sure when the work is done and the car is ready for sale it will fly out of the shop, some daddy will buy it for his little girl as a first time car and she will love it and you will know she will be safe driving it. Can’t wait for your next video Kev I hope it’s from the auction that you mentioned in your post. Try to keep smiling Kev regards to Clair and your Dad 😀 Tom
Dang it ! Very easy to get carried away at the auction but I reckon you’ll be good for a few years now , treat it like a refresher coarse 😅
It's the chain guides that can go. Makes that funny noise.
Sounds very much like that 👍👍
@VisionPrestigeCars most likely however I will say yours is too low mileage to have that issue. Could it be clocked?
Great video and learning new skills from your content. Keep it up an look forward to the next update
Thanks for that comment 👍Appreciate it 😊😊😊
All Prestige cars - tend to break their suspension springs easy (includig Merc / BMW/ Audi ) Depending how thay have been drivan!
For anyone watching this. Always listen for a cold start rattle. Pretty much that noise alone you will hear a rattle for a few seconds. That’s when you know👍🏼
Hi kev,omg kev what was you thinking 🤔🤣im not a dealer but i can imagine how easy it is to get carried away😬a lesson learnt i suppose but hopefully you get out of it as well as can be expected, nice one though on you're homesty but anyone that has watched and followed you for a whwill know thats just the way you are👍nice one kev
I enjoyed this one, suspension, who would have thought to give that a quick look. No matter how hard I try and buy a car for my own private use, the only thing going for a ride is me - financially. I love cars, but they sure don't return that affection. But like all good addicts, I'll still buy another one, in the blind hope I will get lucky. I look forward to more car buying insights from this channel, I found the content level headed and engaging. Thanks for that.
I had the misfortune to own a 118da M ... to put it bluntly, the seller shafted me massively. Worst car I've ever owned. Spent an absolute fortune fixing things (to a high standard) with a BMW Indi .... bag a shite in the words of Paul Calf.
Bet it was a nice car when you'd finished fixing it though 👍👍👍
Gutted for you but doing the right thing which is rare. Good on you. Just demonstrates your business ethics which ultimately will pay massive dividends.
Thanks Mike appreciate that 👍👍👍
I’ve owned eight 1 series and I never knew about easy access
The trusty Mondeo !!! Have you considered an auction or maybe a competition to win this car, You do know I love Mondeos!!! so I would be defiantly first in the queue 👌👌
An auction???? To win an old Mondeo??🥴🥴🥴Really Stevie??? You think people would enter that??? 🤪🤪🤪
@@VisionPrestigeCars Hopefully no one would and I would be the only one to enter hence I win it 😊😊😊😊
My friends Guides went and had that noise. big headache for sure but I enjoyed watching as usual.
Thanks Peter, glad your enjoying the channel 👍👍👍
12:35 springs in the 1 series seem to be common for just snaping on their own not 100% sure but have heard from loads people same thing had 1 myself that broke just from getting into car heard ping and front drivers side was sitting decked out other side done same next day 😂
Interesting comment on the chocolate 2.0 petrol engine. I've only bought a couple of BMW's as generally they age of stock I buy, the BMW's are out my price range. If you have time in one of your videos, could you do a short 5 minute chat on the BMW engines to buy, to avoid and what ones you need to be aware of?
Only an Audi driver could have the brains to park that close in the next spot.
Use it as your smoker and sell the mondeo.
Nice little company car for running about in.
Or a customer service car ie if you have to fix faults under warranty.
You know what....thats actually a really good idea 🤔🤔🤔🤔
The only bullet proof 1 series is the old m47 2.0 diesel and any of the 3.0 petrol N52’s
👌👌
Nice one Stevie 👍👍
Hi kev as I mentioned in my 1st comment to you, you have really good ethics and it's great to be able to sleep at night. When I use to buy in the auctions the drive home would fly by because you would listen for noises, try brakes etc and would know if it was retail or not.
He's one of life's gentlemen is Kev, and a shining example of how it should be done. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to buy a car from him, and I'd happily recommend him to my best friends too. Not many dealers you can say that about these days. Too many Arthur Daley types.
Completely agree Graham its one main reason I like to drive them home rather than get them delivered 👍👍👍Thanks for the kind words 👍Appreciate it 👍👍👊👊
Well thats a very kind thing to say Matthew thanks ☺️☺️👍👍👊👊Appreciate that alot.....I tend to agree with you ☺️☺️☺️😜😜😜😜Well I try my best anyway 👍👍👍👍
Hi mate, great content, keep it up. Do you have any problems selling red cars? I have a 14 plate Ford KA done 17000 miles with 6 stamps in the book and is like new. I also have a 15 plate red Corsa 1.4 ecolflex 45000 with FSH. I've had both for around 5 months now and no enquiries on either! Autotrader says "good price" The Corsa had black alloys so I even got them powder coated silver in the hope it would make it more appealing, still no interest :( The last few Corsa's I had sold quickly but they weren't red. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Sounds like terry tibbs at the rostrum 😂
Bought one brand new in 2008 exact same colour as yours but as a 5 door with out doubt it was the Worst car we had ever bought Plaughed with electrical faults and those Stupid Run Flat tyres rock hard ride but the final insult was at 115,000 mles Bang went the chain (2012) BMW wanted £5000 to change it so we went to an indy guy and got it done for £2100 and not long after there was a recall on them It was a POS
The auctioneer sounds like Terry Tibbs 😂
You paid over the top for the car, and to add insult to injury it developed expensive faults, "bugger" after beating yourself up you decided to get it fixed and to sell it ay a lost, well done, you keep your integrity and it can only do your reputation as a car salesman a bonus with the car buying public
Not replacing coils and springs in a pair is a bodge
In Manheim when are you allowed to get in before the auction? Is then when they start it up for the line
Good story, well told. A bit like the CRV episode.
Thanks Jonathan, glad you liked that one 👍👍
Like all the ones i see, spares or repairs first loss is best.
That generation bmw were known for springs snapping. I've had a few go mainly the e60 5 series. I had one go when I was driving. The spring hit the tyre and destroyed it. I was stranded in Halifax. Lol
That's must have been scary Dale....I was thinking how lucky I was when it went just sitting there 🥴🥴🥴
@VisionPrestigeCars luckily I was going over a speedbump in town centre at 5 mph! I wouldn't mind but it had an expensive run flat tyre on which it destroyed but yeah imagine that at speed!
Doubt they turned it off, I sold my diesel 1 so series with a similar issue, it was fine for a while then dpf light came on after 2 or 3 miles and went off when turning car off
Kev, that’s a nice car. Agreed you paid a little too much for it. Needs some TLC
Thanks Nigel it is a cool little car......im gonna make it great again 👍👍🤪🤪
Maybe should have done a vehicle score check on car before bidding on it, it might have flagged something
You are getting the hang of it from High Peak Autos - massively overspending😆
I lost £2300 on a 1 series because it had a noisey timing chain thats what can happen bying online cars to fix the timing chain problem means engine removal
Hmmmm, we aren't alone unfortunately 🤦♂️🤦♂️
I have bought hundreds of cars in the past and i would say easy 30% have been no good had to spend alot of money on them auctions are very crafty and you have to be carefull remember all them cars are in there for a reason unless you buy mobility cars then that's different if i was you just stick to buying mobility cars highrer value cars that's my opinion 😅
20d are okay but around 140k is the time they break if you don't change the chain. I wouldn't think chain/guides go that early. Avoid ones around 140k upwards.
I avoid anything with 140K on it.........except a Honda maybe.......oh and Claire's Evoque obviously 🙄 🤪🤪
I had forgotton about this little BMW, I am sure it will make someone a lovely little car at some point and as we all know, Some you win, Some you lose.
Id forgotten about it as well William 🤪🤪I will make it a nice little car though 👍👍👍👍hopefully. 😊😊😊
@@VisionPrestigeCars I have no doubts you will make a great little car out of it.
Auctions are a little bit like gambling. The next hand or bid could be the winner and it's addictive. You have to really fight with yourself and set a hard rule and stick to it before you start. If you know that you are willing to pay 2K or 20K for something, then that is as far as you go. You have to work on the principle that if it goes beyond that, then it wasn't for you, and walk away. The problem is adrenalin kicks in and the what if...What if I bid/have one more go. Been there, done that. Usually it's the wrong move.
I don't understand why the BMW collapsed after you drove it (during the night?). I would have thought it should have gone while you were driving it (obviously glad it didn't). Having said that, this last couple of years I have had to replace a number of springs and shock absorbers all because of the potholes.
Really enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work. All the best.
You know what, im usually really good at pulling out of a bidding war but this time was just different....I had to keep going.....to prove a point....or something 🤷♂️🤷♂️🥴🥴.....
It's random how that spring broke, really makes no sense but it must have hair line cracked on the way home and stayed together.....im glad it did cause that would have been scary.
Glad your liking the channel, appreciate it 👍👍
Mate, I'm 58, spent last 25 years in recruitment, so it's nice to see someone genuine. Wish you all the best in business and hope it keeps going well.
One piece of advice, always keep a reserve to pay the VAT. The bill always comes when you're least ready for it even though you know it's due, cash flow is so liquid. As an owner. you have to keep your mind on everything which when you've got a family as well is really difficult. I think people that haven't experienced running their own business DON'T understand the pressure you're under, the bidding can be how that shows up. Something you have control over, but like I said before you have to set a limit, which I know you've done in the past. I found being able to talk to other business owners and have a rant really helps you and them to reset. The other thing you realise is that customers are a complete pain in the a...
I think that springs are also vulnerable to the weird weather we've been having. Hot, cold, hot cold. Metal just doesn't like it.
All the best and keep going @@VisionPrestigeCars
That's the worry with auction cars that put me off over paying for a spanner, altho some untrustworthy people would private sell or even a garage would sell like this I hate changing cars you never know what your going to get I've been caught out twice
You're right on all aspects there Karl......it's the main reason I started my business as to try and create something where people know they can trust us.....being brutally honest...doing this job the right way is genuinely very difficult 😏😏😏😏
I remember you buying this last year. The dreaded auction fever. Happens to all of us, so don't feel too bad. I'd have bid on it too; It's a nice looking car, and it has the aura of having been cared for. I've got quite a soft spot for it really, without being able to explain why. Looking forward to it coming good. Retail should be 4 and a bit bags, so you might come out of it relatively intact. Perhaps not quite break even, but close. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Kev. It'll make a really nice car for someone, I'm sure.
It totally does have that aura about it Matthew you're right 👊👊exactly what I thought when I first saw it.....and the way the markets going on good cheap stuff....we may be able to break even on it fingers crossed.....that would be great 👍👍👍
Sadly u never know your luck and buying at auctions or anything used and old luck plays a major factor 😂 Buy more mondeos mate had quite a few off them drove em all like I stole him 😉 and none off dem ever let me down. 😂😂
Ha!!! Mondeos are good cars for sure I'll give you that 👍👍You're right about luck as well, ive been lucky until now 😩😩😩could've been worse though I guess 👍👍
Can i just ask a question to anyone who knows about auctions, does cap clean price mean the suggested retail price for a clean car with no faults apart from a few age related marks but nothing serious? and if cap clean is say £5000 would you bid say £4000 including auction fees to make 20% profit or is aiming for 20% profit not realistic, do most dealers bid with a certain profit % in mind, i know cap is just a guide but ive seen other utube channels where the dealer is bidding and constantly checking cap like its set in stone, any replies would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Hi bud......as an average rule of thumb, Cap clean is what is classed as trade book price these days.....it's what you should aim to pay for a car in very good condition, good service history, low owners etc.....unfortunately these days for a desirable car through auction Cap clean is very often exceeded and then the fees go on top of that before you've even opened the door 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️make sure you know your margins and prep costs before bidding...and don't let emotions get the better of you.....unlike me in this video 👍👍👍👍🤪🤪🤪🤪
Cheerd bud, what should my margin be though at a minimum, im guessing 20% clear profit after auction fees and anything else that might need doing like refurbing wheels etc or is that unlikely?, what profit margin do you aim for ideally yourself if you don't mind me asking?@@VisionPrestigeCars
Cheers, what is the minimum percentage profit i should go for in an ideal world?@@VisionPrestigeCars
Hi. I really enjoy your channel by way. If it were me, I'd send it back through the auction and not have any association to it. You'll do the repairs and probably sell it to a customer at a loss, but I think you'll always be waiting for a phone call because of the standup person you are.
Hey Karen, the problem is car auctions are actually quite complicated......I bought that car from a huge dealer part exchange....but when small dealers like me enter cars other dealers know it's not from a usual source and bid very low......id lose way more that way so I haven't got a great deal of choice 😏😏😏repair is the only way really 😩😩
Kev you spent to much on it .easy have it as a courtesy car or rent it out .never gd 1 series.best of luck.
Bmw audi mercedes all them cars i have lost thousands on them when you have a good one you are lucky but when its a bad one you know about it it can become a night mare and my advise is dont buy online 😅
Remember this. Former. Video. Remember it well. Getting sucked in is just part of being a trader bidding physical. Contra bids across multi online platforms cures this. I'd buy one or two wrong ones every 6 months if back in the physical halls !!!!!!
What is a contra bid?,

What do you reckon you can retail this at ?
Cheap cars are making real strong money at the mo so if it turns out nice.....maybe £3995. 🤷♂️🤓🤪
@@VisionPrestigeCars and yours will have the cam chain done ,so you’d hopefully come out even and a good story 😀
I confess, I've always really liked this car from day one.
Could it be a loaner?
Thats a really good idea David.....wouldnt have to fix it then 🤔🤔🤪🤪🤪
If its a bmw it's got problems😅😅😅😅😅
aa u drive a cheap Mondeo mk4,, not a Titanium ;)
I think the 1 series is known as a hair dressers car 😂
And a poor persons bmw as mostly people who should really buy a fiesta buy a 1 series but can’t afford to run a bmw
Shouldn't have gotten into a bidding war should you.
Well it is a bmw and worse still German
