Being on Starcade is the core memory of my life. This episode means even more now since my mom passed 12/1/23. She was so supportive of my desire to be on Starcade. Will never forget doing some training at Pier 39 the day before the taping in San Francisco. My mom had very little understanding of the games but she gave it her all, especially playing Elevator Action against the other mom. Great times. 🙂
Short was cool on Starcade ... our youngest Contestant Dusty was only 6 years old (Starcade Eps077) ... we provided stepstools when needed ... mostly at the podium ... they were not often needed at the game ... __Mavis, Co-Creator/Executive Producer/Writer
You beat my ass. I was such a cocky shit on this episode. My mom passed in 2009. She was really supportive of me being on the show too. When we got invited back as a mom son duo she was jazzed to give it a shot. Congrats on the W.
@@thumpbur wow.. damn good to hear from you. That was an epic time, wasn't it? Regardless of outcome, it really was an amazing time to be young and surrounded by so many arcade games in the back sound stage. You were confident with your SW skills, but also a big 10th grader, taller, and intimidating. Your mom was very cool. Do you have any pics from that day? I've got a polaroid with all the other contestants we shared the green room with back then. My mom put together a crazy scrap book from that entire adventure.
There's no way my mom would've agreed to be a contestant...video games back in the day just made her way too nervous. She enjoyed playing Turtles on the Odyssey 2 though, and had a short lived fascination with Super Mario Brothers on the NES a few years after that. It wouldn't be until Peggle came out on PC that she'd give video games another chance.
Lots of Moms were 'nervous' and hesitant about playing video games ... you'd be surprised how persuasive we could be ... __Mavis, Co-Creator/Executive Producer/Writer

Kewl 😎
Would have been fun! Unfortunately I needed stepladder to play at the time 😂 and was probably not allowed on Starcade anyway.

It was an amazing time to grow up .. i remember being fascinated with this show on Saturday
The little fella shook the wrong side of his opponent’s hand😮
Thanks again for sharing this great part of Video Arcade history
Donkey Kong 3 is a weird game. Did 'Stanely the Bugman' ever go on to do anything else?
I don’t believe so. DK3 truly was an oddball in the DK IP.
Yes. A Japanese PC game by Nintendo & Hudson Software collab.
Hey there ... the ultimate Starcader ... __Mavis, Co-Creator/Executive Producer/Writer
@@starcadetvv Interesting! How was it on the show? And what were the ratings like? I'm curious, because of how popular streaming games are nowadays.

Donkey Kong 3 was weird but got the hang of it.
I think I like that one the best out of all of them
