- Revealing exclusive WWF archival footage: a news reel featuring the WWF Wildlife Story of The Year 1995, the impressive comeback of the Greater one-horned rhino in Nepal!
This success has not been lost to time! In 2021, Nepal’s most recent National Rhino Count revealed that its rhino population had increased by 16% since 2015, to a total of 752 rhinos! Chitwan National Park accounted for 694 of the 752 rhinos, its highest recorded number since the park’s establishment.
All thanks to the continued conservation efforts from the Nepalese government, local communities and conservation organisations like WWF!
The recovery of the greater one-horned rhino is a conservation success story, but this species still faces huge challenges. These rhinos are still classified as vulnerable and inhabit only a fraction of their former range.
