    Another suggestion for future videos: how different intake and exhaust mods, turbo size, diff ratio, cooling, tyre size and stuff like that can affect performance. Two cars same model can have very different performance at same boost and fuel. Interesting topic I think, not so easy to understand when it's not just about simple numbers.

    Every modern car should be dyno'd using the SAE J1349 (2004) correction factor since that's what the OEMs use in their advertised dyno numbers. A reason the B58s often appear underrated or show bigger differences after a tune (IMO) is because they run such high coolant temps during normal operation (high coolant temps help thermodynamic efficiency and fuel economy but are bad for power). It's not unusual to see 230+F coolant temps on a stock tune at the beginning of the run and then the thermostat and waterpump come into play and halfway through the run the temp plummets to 190. If you get a run where the coolant temp starts lower you can show a big gain, especially in the midrange.

    Some companies are doing all kinds of stuff to manipulate the results so it appears like they are the best tuners with the highest horsepower numbers and then the real world tests come and they don't perform as good as they should on dragy. So in my opinion, dynos make sense only if you go to the same dyno when you want to see how much you gained after certain mods. Comparing two cars by results from different dynos makes no sense.

    I also feel like people just compare dyno numbers with no other consideration.
    If you race a 420 whp BMW vs a 420 whp Mustang and the BMW wins, its not always because the BMW is underrated.
    People often don't pay attention to the fact that its not about peak power always, its about when you make that power and where it is.
    A B58 can make peak torque before 2000 rpm. Mustangs don't and since hp is a function of torque per unit time or rpm, it means we get to our power band faster.
    Getting to the power faster and having a good trans like a zf8 or 10 spd auto makes more of a difference than peak power imo.
    To further add insult to injury, we're usually AWD and a little lighter than most V8 cars.
    So we make peak torque sooner, have better grip, can stay in our power band thanks to the ZF8, and depending on the car we're a little lighter.
    Its no mystery why BMWs and other AWD turbo cars just win when they make similar power figures to V8 rivals.

    hi, kern I watched all your youtube videos concerning the b58 I would like some information because I have a problem with my m240i from the end of 2016 so gen 1 I have oil in the Chargepipe turbo intake the breather spits out a lot of oil even on the spark plug pistons Would you be wondering where this could come from by chance?
