The speed of the game is incredible. What a spectacle!! look at the terraces!! The game today is so much poorer for all the b-llsh-t stoppages. Look at the line speed. Incredible. Such a better brand of Rugby and truly skillful players. RIP Rugby League
I defy any RL fan to testify that today's product is anywhere as entertaining now as it was back then & that's not just nostalgia speaking..! I'm only 33 so grew up in both the pre & post super league eras and there is no contest in terms of spectacle for me. Yes the game is marketed much better these days, but the structural changes and the games obsession with a quick PTB has slowly irradiated the technical and skillful qualities which the game no longer demands and the game is worse off.
Your right never watch the rubbish football 🏈 dished up today the old grounds are gone the skill is all but gone I watched leagev70 80 90 till now game is boring for sure
Just reading Mick Morgan's biography and came here to watch Topper glide. Watched both Topper and Sterling play in black and white the season later at Headingley in the challenge cup semi final against Cas. I think it was a draw 10 a piece. FC won the replay. Classic rugby. Cas fan.
@@lapalad yeap the group decided to slap 1 of the tourists in the face...not knowing the rest of the team where in the snug...the player they started on went and got his team mates who promptly came in and hammered them
Topliss glided across the ground similar to John Woods, less pace in them days ( was fast at wakefield) but very elusive. Mick crane seems like an unfulfilled talent could have been a great second row to take the pressure off Norton. The Boulevard was a very intimidating place to go, noisy. This Hull team with modern rules, 10 yard spacing, modern nutrition, dry pitched would be very competitive. Bit too much neck stretching then.
Entirely agree. No steal rule rewards poor handling. Uncontested scrums take away space. Silly nicknames throw away games heritage. Ditto summer season, no more tours and ditching the Great Britain team.
1st penalty seems to have been a "gift". Hull player is tackled a yard inside his own half and referee calls offside against Australia 9 yards into their half - looks like a fair 10 yards.
One eyed , 6 minutes till 1/2 time Meninga lines up a penalty kick English commentator states Meninga's kick to get Australia back into the game .. The score is Hull 2 Aust 0
2nd half is here: ua-cam.com/video/1I2N8TFFRa4/v-deo.html Computer broke which it was on, so haven't been able to fix the picture as I did with the first half. As soon as I have time I'll try to fix and ipload the full video as one
More really lousy British refereeing, totally ignored obstruction by the British players, ignored forward passes, gave penalties for scrum feeds but didnt care if the British did it or if the British collapsed the scrum, just a rotten exhibition ! The commentators were on the same level as the referee...rotten!

I loved going to this ground, especially for night matches
What a night. 2 legendary teams on display. Watching this again as the death of former Hull FC Coach Arthur Bunting is announced. Wonderful era.
Good call mate, RIP the legend Arthur Bunting
Fantastic Vid !! Quite surprised by some of the tackling !!

Best atmosphere going in rugby league in them days
Les boyd must have had a fight in every game he played in during this tour 👊👊👊
Also had a fight with a member of The jam during the 78 tour putting him in hospital with broken ribs which saw a few of their concerts cancelled

Went to the game v Leeds at Headingley that year 50-5 or something like that....the difference was the aussie big blokes could actually run!
Hopefully these Kangaroo tours make a comeback as has been rumoured
Unfortunately…..
Boyd didnt want nowt to do with a 19 year old Hull lad Lee Crooks. U ulla.
Yeah Peter, I'll let you know when I have it ready

They tried everything to get a win in those days. Anyway it just made us stronger.
