I love the idea and I wish them the best. Ill probably pick one up to support their efforts but with brand new JDM reels like the Alderberan or metaniums being much less, the premuim market will be tough.
You gave an excellent presentation on all the really great specs and quality features on the new Hundo reel. But, as you pointed out, and I agree, the price point is just too high to justify replacing any of my current lighter weight reels (Lews Custom Pro at 5.6oz) just to lose a half ounce. I think buying a lighter and better preforming rod (Laguna Texas Wader II) would be a better investment.
I agree, I think this reel would be a no brainer at the 275-300.00 range. No reason to buy some of these other reels at 200-250 with a better reel for only a little more. But at 100-150 more, I don’t think as many people will make that switch.
At $375 price point you're competing with the Bantam and Zillion SV... I'm not sure those are juggernauts you really wanna compete with? Don't get me wrong I'm looking at this reel as a pretty compelling option. However, how do I justify buying this over something from Daiwa and Shimano? Two brands that have nearly three decades of my trust.
I have a lot of Shimano & Lew’s myself. I have a few Daiwa including a couple Tatulas & a Zillion. I like them all. I like the Zillion a little more than the Chronarch & a lot more than the Curados (dc & k). I like it more than the Lew’s Hypermag & the Custom Lite. The one con to the Zillion is the surface of the reel scratches easily. I looked at the Bates Hundo at a local shop & held it. It’s beautiful & light. Turning the handle didn’t seem quite as buttery smooth as the Zillion, so I’m still thinking about it. I’d love to hear from someone who has used them both. Hopefully, someone reading this will comment. Thank for your video. 👊
I throw the old curado 50e, lews custom lites, alderbarans, zillions, and metaniums right now. The JDM Zillion price of 230, it is very likely the best buy there is right now. It does everyrhing great. Some don't like the shape, but it's a much more comfortable shape than the tatulas.
With the breaking system, you can definitely tune it to throw lighter baits. I personally wouldn’t go under 1/8 oz. Jighead but I’m sure it’s capable with the right setup.
And diawa got this all started eith their mq line. P.s. I can't afford an mq reel but live my zillion my coastal and my spinning g tatula. I gotta have that new bates 150 G.O.A.T. And I love my tranx but it's a big boy reel gor 4 plus ounce lures and baits. .y 11lb drag on .y I land reels holds up great yo Hass snd e en carp and catfish. Would be weak In he ocean for sure though. Wish they had connected that brake cover side so it's not dropped I. The drink. Or just be vigilant and get in middle of boat or smooth place on bank. Snd you're running n g your tension knobs too loose if you got slop on your spools
A terrific review ; it pushed me over the cliff I bought two caught quite a few 4-5 pound bass , whoa Nelly I love the reel ! 👏

Excellent review Mike. I’ll be picking one up at some point.
Is the brake dial the only way to adjust the brakes or is there some type of way to adjust them further on the spools braking system?
I have both a GOAT and the Hundo on order. I think I am going to use the Hundo on my lighter pole and setup a heavier pole with the GOAT.
Great choice!
@texasfishingforce whats lowest weight you throw on it ?
I throw mostly 1/4 but I’d have no problem going down to an 1/8

Sounds like a good reel. How would you compare it to the Daiwa Zillion?
I haven’t used the Daiwa. I’ve really been a Shimano and Lews guy for the last several years.

what is the lightest bait that can cast? Can it be used as a BFS?

Is this reel able to throw heavier lures like corkys and spooks?
Absolutely!
👍👍👍
Great review. Had me till the price point. Above my pay grade 😂
I agree. I think that will be the only thing that will hinder some people from picking one up.
Well hello sir you ok mate your videos are incredible and amazing your incredible as well fella 🤘
Thank you so much 😀
Wish they made them in 6:3.1
Are they better than the bantam or metanium
I’ve only used the Metanium and online the Hundo better for the price.

What is the spool weight on this reel?
Spool weight? Not sure about that.
@@TexasFishingForce any shot you could weigh the spool on yours for me and let me know? Even if it has line on it
Yeah, I can do that.
@batesfishingco any chance you know the weight on this?
@@TexasFishingForce that would be awesome, thanks!
Uuuuhh…. Buggie…
Korean made reel with fancy machining, not a game changer
100% not Korean made and not a Doyo copy
Definitely not Korean made, not sure where you got that info. These are fantastic reels!
Read on a forum, should’ve verified before posting. My fault. Don’t mind being wrong about this
Where is the reel made?
