That's what I've enjoyed about recent marvel. They're really humanizing the universe and wanting to make it deeper than just some cool people with super powers
If you think about it, Shuri grew up around the Dora Milaje. So despite their role as bodyguards, she likely does see them as sisters, especially Okoye who also served on the council.
@Daniel Haire I always got the impression that Okoye was like an honorary member of the family. Her and T'Challa had a snarky friend/sibling dynamic as well (that and they dated each others' best friend, so they probably double dated a lot lol). She also seemed to have had a prominent relationship with Ramonda. If you go back to the first Black Panther, there's a scene where Nakia and Ross met up with Ramonda and Shuri, and one of the first things Ramonda asked was "Where's Okoye?" and seeing Ramonda, calm and holding devastated Shuri, shocked and hurt when she learns Okoye wasn't coming with them. Despite knowing Okoye's duties as Dora Milaje and the General, she still automatically expected Okoye to run away with them because she's part of the family... It makes that scene hit so much differently after seeing Wakanda Forever and makes their relationship in Wakanda Forever even more devastating. They painted that one scene like an angry parent, after so much patience, having their final straw with their devestated child for a reason. It's also why they did that later scene where Okoye stops screaming "Queen Mother" to just "Mother", juxstipox Shuri screaming "Mama", to Ramonda. Okoye wasn't just their general, protector, and friend. She was the third child of the royal family... I'll even go as far as say that with T'Challa's passing, M'Baku is filling in the role as the third sibling...
