Good work mate. Not sure you saw my message on the other video but my father was a carpenter who worked on the sega world construction. He helped build the ghost train I think. He’d be happy to do an interview about the construction and opening day that we went to for your channel.
Worked here from its opening in 97 to its eventual closure, from Admissions to Functions supervisor* These were the best years living in Sydney, Thankyou for sharing this flashback 😎💫
I always begged my mum to take me there and she never did. Your videos have finally given me an inside look of the place. It was one of those places you would always see when you went to Sydney and to me as a kid it always looked so magical. Sydney became really boring for a while. Sega world closed, Wonderland closed, then luna Park closed for a while. There are a few other places that existed before my time like waterworks in Mt druitt and a few other theme and water parks. Would be cool if you did a video on them.
Very well done. I didn't have the chance to go to Sega World, but everyone that did spoke highly about it. Sydney needs something like this again, and hopefully one day it will happen.
You make me feel old as a 38 year old Brit who remembers Sega World Trocedero, however your passion and knowledge on the subject of Sega's glory day's is sufficient. Here's to a return to Sydney harbour and the rest of the world.
I loved watching your original video on Sega World (for the first time just today) and it left me wanting to point out how in the last couple of years things have taken a huge up turn, I was going to point out TimeZone in Coolangatta as an example but then this video autoplayed next. :)
I went to Tokyo Joypolis recently and I thought it was a lot of fun! High tech VR and fun rides. Definitely think it would be cool if something like that came to Australia but then again sonic is much more popular in japan
Timezone in Hindley St, Adelaide, had one of those roller coaster simulators at 6:40 as well. This was back in the early 2000's though; the place closed well over a decade ago now.
fantastic video, keep up the good work! its great to see a young guy who appriciates what Sydney once had, the way Sydney has gone is very upsetting with the loss of the monorail, wonderland, sega world etc. Oh hey, look into the old African Lion Safari at Warragamba, that place was another awesome piece of History!
They need multi-players mode to be successful that is what made them popular back in the day they ended up dying out for focusing on single player prize modes that needed too many prize tokens.
I'm still sad I never got to know or experience Sega World when I was a kid. But man I would love it if came back this day and age. Yeah you make a lot of sense. I think if Sega World came back it would work now. I think it can be a place similar to Epcot's Innoventions (Back when Sega sponsored it), Disney Quest, and Dave & Busters. I feel it can be a place to show new amazing arcade machines & rides but also embrace its old school arcade roots. Keep up the great work, I like your content.
Also comes down to this alot of people with kids now went to arcades when they where kids in the late 80s and 90s and they want there kids to have that experience too
Great video on sega world and wonderland. A high standard which will improve in coming year. Your subscriber base is bound to grow as well. Other suggestions for content- water works (mt druitt and manly), Major Kingdom (Gold Coast), Leyland bros world (burnt down last year), el caballo blanco (west syd in 80s), Waratah park (skippy) in terry hills. Good luck!
The resurgence of arcades has not only been in Australia, but in other countries such as the United Kingdom and America with bowling alleys and amusement centers. They still get regular visitors and I believe there's a chance that a new indoor amusement park could happen at some point in the next few years. I've seen there was a Sega Republic, which was similar to SegaWorld, but I believe that's been closed down now. But seeing the growth in these arcades shows you that there is still a demand for something similar to SegaWorld.
I recall visiting Sega world in 1999. It was actually really cool. I do recall thinking however at the time that it was very quiet. We didn't have to queue for any rides at all. We got off a ride and went straight back on it. The tech for the time was quite impressive.
I went there once in the 2000's & we were there 2 hours before it closed for the day so were charged kids prices. It was almost empty as people were going home & we had a ball going from game to game. Great fun but would it work today ? Who Knows ?
Should have just taken them the statues were obviously stolen with the damage they have if they have bought them they would not look like they had been ripped out of the ground
SEGA simply do not have the money to create such a place at the moment. What they need to do is work on creating and growing quality franchises like Sonic, Yakuza, Daytona USA and then they need to work with an existing theme park to implement a Sega World area heavily featuring a Sonic themed rollercoaster and free or cheap to play arcade games
Good job on the video! Have you thought about starting up a Patreon to get some donations in to improve your equipment? Another way to drum up some views and subscribers would be to post your link on r/sydney and r/australia. I'm sure they would appreciate the nostalgia hit.
Not wrong, timezone was kinda dogdy on George st a friend of my co-workers got stabbed there, or chased outside and then stabbed as it was reported on the news, I think the late 90's early 00's was less dodgy but late 80's to mid 90's could draw some dodgy characters, best period though was late 80's to mid 90's, as you know console rapidly got very good and the need for big bulky arcade hardware was redundant, although the points you raise for its resurgence is great to see it have a comeback, was a social meetup for many of my pals when i was a kid, so i have many good memories of being at the arcades with a few dodgy ones sprinkled in ;)
I was born in 2003, and boy do I wish they would do that! I would definitely beg my parents to go. I hope it would be entirely Sega based as well. That would be heaven for me!
Interesting hypothesis that there could be something similar to Sega World in the future. I really don’t think so though. The fact is people in general don’t go out as much these days so building a Sega World 2.0 is not viable. If for some reason it was build I doubt Sega would have anything to do with it. Sega has struggled to keep with modern video gaming unlike its competitors Sony and Nintendo. You make the point that arcade centres have opened up in Japan and China. Do you know the population of these countries? There’s a billion people in China. The population of Australia is 25 million. We just don’t have the population to make theme parks successful and amusement companies know this after failed attempts at trying.
I’d do anything to get those statues Sell my cat, sell my house , sell my car i would do anything to get them and give them to someone who could restore them to their original glory But I dont think i can do it now since I may be to young 0-0
Have any of you guys actually been to Sega World Sydney? It was s**t! Perhaps no one recalls, but it was essentially an IMAX cineplex masquerading as an indoor theme park. The development failed, because firstly, they only screened boring IMAX films, the theaters were converted, not purpose-built IMAX. And because Holden and Ford dominated the Australian economy, EVERY freaking arcade game was a driving one. And the greedy machines only accepted $2 x2 coins to give it a go. I remember, because it was our first time holidaying in Sydney, and my parents regretted their decision taking us to Australia.
Good work mate. Not sure you saw my message on the other video but my father was a carpenter who worked on the sega world construction. He helped build the ghost train I think. He’d be happy to do an interview about the construction and opening day that we went to for your channel.
Man this really high Quality Reminds me of Bright Sun Films Abandoned series

I worked at Sega World Sydney as a ride operator.
Great co-workers. A shame about the terrible clueless management.

your mom was evil
Your videos are amazing and so well researched mate, keep it up! (From a 80/90's video game kid).
Love your vids hun. Keep up the great work your research and delivery is fantastic
Very well done. I didn't have the chance to go to Sega World, but everyone that did spoke highly about it. Sydney needs something like this again, and hopefully one day it will happen.
Great video, I found recently a photo of me with the sonic statue when I was about 4 years old, brought back good memories
11:45 actually Sega owns the full rights to Sally and could reuse her if they wanted to.
Great effort mate. Love that u did this.
You make me feel old as a 38 year old Brit who remembers Sega World Trocedero, however your passion and knowledge on the subject of Sega's glory day's is sufficient. Here's to a return to Sydney harbour and the rest of the world.
I tend to feel if it did open in 2017 then it would of been doomed come 2019 when covid-19 hit.
"Very few elements of the Darling Harbour redevelopment have proven to be enduring " - discuss !
Londonderry? Wow, they weren't that far from me since I'm in Richmond.

keep the good work up man this is some good content !
takes me down memory lane.

Brilliant video again mate, love your ideas for a new park. Congrats on graduating too, looking forward to seeing what you do next!

Power rangers was filmed here

Agreed 💯

2:37 Sonic seems to be internally disgusted be as it looks like someone puked all over him and sally.

I can't wait til the day Sega announces that Sega world Sydney will be resurrected

You didn't hit your Mic stand at all in this video (thumbs down) nah kidding mate. Great video thanks for the nostalgia hit. Keep up the good work.

Great vids! If you're looking for ideas, how about the Brisbane Airport to Gold Coast hovercraft service???
I hope those statues will be restored soon :(
I went there once in the 2000's & we were there 2 hours before it closed for the day so were charged kids prices. It was almost empty as people were going home & we had a ball going from game to game. Great fun but would it work today ? Who Knows ?
I really want someone from sega to see this video
Then they may make a Kickstarter
9:04 whats this song?
If Sega opens another make a Tails and Amy mascot costumes to hang out with the Sonic mascot costume
I tried to buy the statues in 2012 when they were in better condition but was told no
Brudworks wait what
Yeah I know. The guy was stubborn as. I offered $1000 :(
Should have just taken them the statues were obviously stolen with the damage they have if they have bought them they would not look like they had been ripped out of the ground
Thanks for the nostalgia!
Just wondering what brand of laptop are you? (Love the vids)
Can someone please tell me the address
what if nintendo created a theme park called nintendo land🤔
And then 2 years later at Universal Studios Japan... ✨💡

Awesome! Love it!
It might come back again because of the new sonic movie.
I heard they're thinking about making a sega world in America
Good job on the video! Have you thought about starting up a Patreon to get some donations in to improve your equipment? Another way to drum up some views and subscribers would be to post your link on r/sydney and r/australia. I'm sure they would appreciate the nostalgia hit.
Something similar to Dave & busters chain in the states would do well in Australia
Not wrong, timezone was kinda dogdy on George st a friend of my co-workers got stabbed there, or chased outside and then stabbed as it was reported on the news, I think the late 90's early 00's was less dodgy but late 80's to mid 90's could draw some dodgy characters, best period though was late 80's to mid 90's, as you know console rapidly got very good and the need for big bulky arcade hardware was redundant, although the points you raise for its resurgence is great to see it have a comeback, was a social meetup for many of my pals when i was a kid, so i have many good memories of being at the arcades with a few dodgy ones sprinkled in ;)
Those junkyard owners are scumbags just letting the statues rot away for no reason.
I Want to get this guy to 2000 Subs!!! He is so great he even deserves more!!!! Btw i subbed!!
I was born in 2003, and boy do I wish they would do that! I would definitely beg my parents to go. I hope it would be entirely Sega based as well. That would be heaven for me!
the park closed 2000
Good video mate

Sell my cat, sell my house , sell my car i would do anything to get them and give them to someone who could restore them to their original glory
But I dont think i can do it now since I may be to young 0-0
They are not selling so you have to take them with bolt cutters fair game since with that amount of damage they clearly stole them anyways
I wanna get you up to 10,000 subs i just subbed and ringed the bell😊
I also fucking hate SEGA for ignoring the Archie comics
its not abandoned its gone....
We need sega arcades in the united states
I would go to Australia for SEGA World alone
Go to japan they have it there still
Hi
Say-ga

Sounds pretty bad. But still SEGA liked to take the risk and do things big
Pretty stupid of you if you only went to Australia for sega world in the first place you should have gone to Japan for something better.
Lol Sega didn’t produce driving games because Holden and Ford were big in Australia.
