    What are you top 5 Astra Militarum Units in 10th Edition?

    • @dariusfekri
      @dariusfekri 10 місяців тому

      Leontus, Gaunts, rogal dorn, baneblade, scions.
      Either take up an entire lane with the baneblade and have it as a back line defense, rogal dorn can push up if not decimated turn 1 by whatever. Gaunts as you said for pts. Scions as well for pts. Leontus in control of all other infantry and artillery. I try and keep my RG and BB stationary along with my artillery so that they gain +2 for hits with heavy and stationary bonuses. I respawn a sentinel or a squad when available to keep pressure up.

      Krieg, Leontus, Sentinel, Creed, Rogal dorn (honorable mention scions). If you pick the best units, we barely gained any point reductions because most of them didn't or barely got reductions (Sentinel's higher price counter balance the reductions). Edit: Creed basically gives free 2 CPs per turn because you really want to use Fields of Fire EVERY turn so she is better if you go heavy infantry list than Leontus. If they give us a more cost effective tank orderer, Leontus might not be must pick.

    The militarum is a very interesting army, we have such a wide model range we might not seem like an s tier army, but with the right models and the right strategy the militarum is easily one of the top tier armies in tenth rn.
    There is a reason we’re seeing our army win more and more in the competitive scene

    My top 5 as of the update :
    - Lord solar (IF you play tanks, mandatory) or Ursula Creed
    - Straken, for 55 points, 2 orders, and a more than decent combat profile, he is good at screening with 2 cheap catachans blob
    - Death korps of krieg, (with marshal) great value in terms of resillience and shooting (6 special weapons for 20 man), essential to every infantry list
    - Tempestus scions, because you need to be able to score your secondary man.
    - Rogal dorn battle tank, great value for his cost, though you should consider a shadowsword sometimes (when you are sure you are able to place and move it on the battlefield, which isn't always the case).
    I understand most of your choices, except the tank commander, he is rarely that useful outside of some heavy taank skew lists.
    The sentinel isn't a good choice now I think, since artillery isn't much of a thing in the current state of the thing, but yes, it's still decent.

    Ive played a lot of guard this edition and this list is exactly what id put as my top 5.
    People really sleep on the tank commander. Nobody realizes that a leman russ dies by turn 3 most of the time. Getting a 4th shooting phase is a 25% damage boost over the demolisher. Not to mention the extra order is free. I take the exterminator cannon for extra range and lack of blast (big guns never tire doesn't work with blast weapons and i play against orks a lot) with only a slight damage decrease (made up for by bonus shooting phase). Give him another exterminator to boss around for that sweet bonus ap or let him order ur chimera to move move move in deep turn 1.

      Being a tank and alone, the tank commander isn't as good as you think because :
      1 -> Cannot order himself to shoot better
      2 -> His special capacity only work at his death when he is a force multiplier, not just here for damage.
      3 -> He is alone, which means that if he is visible, he will be shot by anti-tank weapons, and will die like another russ.
      4 -> Only useful when you got more that 4 tanks (Used with Lord solar)
      5 -> 205 points isn't cheap for ONE order.
      I would radically changhe my point of view if you could take russ in squadron per datasheet and you could replace one by a tank commander in the unit, but as of right now, he's honestly not that good of a pick

    Agree with most of these suggestions but wouldn’t put the tank commander in the list. It’s a poorer version than the regular leman russ variants because it’s rule is terrible by comparison to the demolished or exterminator. My top picks for the 5th slot would be Leman Russ Exterminator, Rogal Dorn, Death Korp of Krieg, Death Korp Marshal, Hydra or Primaris Psyker (stick 1 in a Taurox Prime with a scion command and 5 man scion squad) and watch that unit absolutely murder anything on an objective - re-roll all hits and wounds on the focused witchfire with sustained and devastating is deadly)

    • @AlterumVeniet
      @AlterumVeniet 10 місяців тому +7

      Nah. Tank commander has a specific role to fill mow which is squadron orders. Commander used to just be a superior Russ choice by default, but now it has an actual role. To mitigate the lack of good turret rules for the TC, I make the commander an executioner, since the standard executioner rules kinda suck.
      Remember, many vehicle units have the squadron rule, so they can get orders from the commander.
      Lastly "death befitting an officer" rule is clutch.

  • @muffinman6048
    @muffinman6048 10 місяців тому +6

    Cool video but I strongly disagree with the tank commander pick. Lord Solar + a master vox makes the TC totally obsolete, since you can bounce 3 orders 24' away. The TC also lacks the squadron keyword, which means he cannot order himself, nor can he benifit from the 'Fields of Fire' strat. Plus he lacks the Demolisher's shoot in combat rule, which is godlike ability imo. Far better than shoot on death which can be hampered if the TC was in combat.
    For a support Russ I would just go for an Exterminator over the TC, since you can have it on a seperate flank, and its buff stacks with FoF.

    • @markstewardson4006
      @markstewardson4006 10 місяців тому +3

      Completely agree TC's just can't compete in my eyes with lord solar even with the points drop.

    • @tyjames3339
      @tyjames3339 10 місяців тому +1

      Maybe, but consider this, Demolishers are imo the best russ variant right now and they cost 200 points, a tank commander costs 205. So for 5 points more you get a free order and shoot on death. Ive been running 1 demo and 2 exterminator russes in my games recently, and Ive just been using the couple points left over at the end of my list to turn my demo into a TC...

    • @calronkeltaran493
      @calronkeltaran493 10 місяців тому +1

      @@tyjames3339 but you also loose the "shoot into combat" rule from the demolisher. if the TC would keep the special rule of the main gun, I would agree but as it is, he has exactly the same problems as he had before: he looses the special rule of the main gun to get a worse rule, he can't give orders to himself, can still only issue 1 single order with less range (12 vs 24") and stil remains the most expensive LR chassis.
      the Tank commander should be an upgrade for the regular LR chassis. so für +10 pts (or whatever is appropiate) the LR gains char keyword and can issure orders to vehicles. max 3 upgrades in total/army. Job done.
      compare that to Lord solar. his full retuine cost between 245 and 305 points (Solar + command + 10 OR 20 inf) vs the TC 205. so he is more expensive BUT brings 4 orders vs 1. he is argubly harder to remove because he can sit behind cover without loosing effectiveness and even if not, AT weapons tend to have more reach than AI weapons so he can be shot less often. you also gain +5 CP during the game and can reshuffle your units before the game starts.
      on paper, this still seems fair. you get more use for more points. but even for orders alone, the Solar blob replaces 3(!) TC and there are no other options for vehicle orders. and even if you get all 3 TC, they still can't order themselves and become a lesser version of the other LR they immitate thx to no orders and the missing special rule. And for the cerry on top: TC can't issue orders to the baneblade, Solar can. So can he give orders to anyone else, where that would be impossible otherwise, like to ogryn if you fancy to include them.
      the main reason for the TC is to multiply and slingshot orders from Solar by taking one TC, give him master strategist and then you can order the TC with solar while he orders 2 other tanks 12" further away but at this point, he becomes an extension for Solar in a tank heavy list and not a "top 5 pick" as mentioned here.

      The tank commander is better than the demolisher even without the extra order. The shoot on death is a massive damage boost. I have won many games against skilled players just by having a tank commander die in my opponents turn and allowing me to fire into a unit on an objective or deny a secondary.

      @@samuelbaldwin2184 I think the tank commander is a good alternative for the demolisher too, solely because the demolisher is what, 5 or 10 points less o,nly ?
      I would not rank him in the same category as the Exterminator though
