Very easy to set up on Raspberry Pi: 1) Install LibreELEC onto a SD card, using the LibreELEC USB-SD Creator 2) Download the Plex script zip file, and copy it to the root of the SD card 3) Boot up the Pi, and go through the wizard 4) Go to Settings > Addon > Install from Zip file. Navigate to Root filesystem, and then the "flash" folder, and in there you will find the zip you copied over earlier
Yeah they tweaked the interface and made it a little different here vs. the regular clients. Their post on the add-on's release said they are experimenting with some new UI idea with this.
Lon.TV When I'm trying to watch a movie on the shield, I can't get rid of the progress bar. If I hit back, it disappears but also exits out of the movie. Do you know how to get rid of it?
what makes this useful for me is being able to use kodi video processing plugins while watching plex videos. Primarily, the Ambilight plugin which changes the color of my Philips Hue lights based on the edge colors of the video being played. check it out if you haven't yet. it's a little laggy, but it's a cool idea.
It's deprecated now I guess, but you can still install and run it. Give it a whirl: github.com/michaelrcarroll/script.kodi.hue.ambilight/blob/master/README.md
This is pretty handy for people who have a lot of users on their Plex server but little or no transcoding power, as Kodi can play most of these formats. Honestly, I'm surprised that this level of file type support isn't standard issue on all Plex clients because of just how handy it is. I still don't have enough money to build a Plex server, but once I do I'll definitely check this out. (Honestly, I'm considering getting a Plex Cloud setup, since it's free and I don't need any additional hardware. Did you hear that they added support for Dropbox, OneDrive, and Google Drive?)
Wish Plex would just revive and update the Rasplex project. Loved Rasplex as a stand alone, boot into plex and go device without any real overhead to slow it down.
Lon thank you for your great work. This Plex plugin is very helpful. I use Plex while I watch offline video during commute. However I use Kodi at home. So it will give me a chance to "merge" these libraries together in some way.
Thanks Lon for this video I really like that Plex app for kodi I also have huge collection on my plex server. keep up the Great work you do God bless you and your family.
Hi Lon. Another great video as always. I have a question. What's the best encoding for my media to stream "Direct Play" to my TVs and avoid transcoding my media? (My server is not fast enough) Thanks.
Great video, got a couple questions for you. I was wondering if it's possible to get the windows version of Plex Media Server running on Xbox One S. I know it has the Plex client which i've installed. Just wondered if there was a way to run the server as well. My media is on a 4 TB WD My Passport, the latest version, and would be easy to just plug it into a usb port on the console, and have all media handling independent of the computer. The only downside would be if Xbox can't read external drives formatted for HFS+ with journaling enabled. Thanks again, Keep up the great content!
Is there any reason for using Kodi if you have got a chromecast and plex installed on your NAS so you can use your Smartphone to start a stream? I think thats more comfortable
Nice video!, I've also tried it on my Nvidia shield tv and its a cool idea but really not needed for anything other than a kodi based only machine as you've mentioned. I rarely use my shield now anyway has LG's webos has Plex built in too. I guess it is handy for those cheap kodi boxes. Can anyone think of any benefit of using this over the native Plex app? e.g. android or web os app.
Good question - I'll cover it on an upcoming wrap-up! I probably won't at this point given that most of these cable alternatives replicate the lack of ala cart choices we have with existing cable.
AesirCorporation if the beta works fine without any issues then u don't need to change. I like using stable versions. LibreELEC is a fork of the OpenELEC code, it is mostly identical as far as the end-user is concerned. A key difference right now is that LibreELEC is active and up to date. OpenELEC had no development for several months. I see some development activity lately but with no announcements from the developer it's hard to know what the future plans are. If you want to be on the latest version of Kodi then you should use LibreELEC. It is easy to migrate.
MrAnhell the only way I can see it being useful is if you are connected to a remote Plex server or you have a need to pause and resume on a different device. And your playback device is Raspberry Pi.
MrAnhell multiple devices in a home (or outside a home) can connect and watch different things, without copying to multiple devices, and with minimal setup. So if you want to watch Breaking Bad while a kid watches Adventure Time in a separate room, they can do so without pretty much any set up.

Was waiting for someone to make this video after the new broke out this week. Thanks
Someone in the Plex forum said the PQ through the add-on looks a lot better on the Nvidia Shield than on the Android based Plex app.

I knew Lon would pull through and cover this.
hey ct in the house im from bridgeport its nice to see someone from ct on here
you're a godsend Lon. thanks for making this vid.
Exactly what i needed to get my PI up and running with Plex. thanks
Try to use PlexKodiConnect - it syncs plex with kodi libraries.

Brian Kapellusch sounds cool, got any links to that?

just fyi ... Rasplex is a plex client for the raspberry pi, pretty awesome,

excellent video Lon I am the same I have a shield tv but this is still a good watch since I have pi's laying about doing nothing
Thanks Lon for this video I really like that Plex app for kodi I also have huge collection on my plex server.
keep up the Great work you do
God bless you and your family.
A good number of people have moved over to LIBREELEC. They have more up to date versions.
After I closed Kodi I couldn't open the plex anymore. already installed again and updated and still nothing ... what can it be ?? Please help me :(
Hi Lon. Another great video as always. I have a question. What's the best encoding for my media to stream "Direct Play" to my TVs and avoid transcoding my media? (My server is not fast enough) Thanks.
Why not install RasPlex if you want to have Plex running on a Raspberry Pi?
Hey Lon. there is also libreelec. it comes with the latest kodi.
hello, can you make a video for more games running on the gdp win to see how they run?

Plex runs pretty good on there
isnt plex player always a good alternativ if you have a rasp and dont need all the kodi stuff.. ?
It is also a lot faster at playing mkv bluray s than the plex app you get from the play store ,
Does Plex on Kodi support ISO files? 🤔
Where does the transcoding happen on server or kodi pi
Openelec is dead. Upgrade to LIBREELEC
Lech Featherstone Or OSMC

Plex pass is only for preview, soon it will be available for free for everyone
Do you ever think about cable cutting and getting TV from the internet?
Good question - I'll cover it on an upcoming wrap-up! I probably won't at this point given that most of these cable alternatives replicate the lack of ala cart choices we have with existing cable.
Can it support 3D movie?
Will it work on a PS4?
those running Openelec need to switch to LibreElec
Why? OpenELEC's latest beta works great on my Intel NUC. Why should I switch?

Honestly Lon, even with a raspberry pi, I don't see the use. Why didn't they release a standalone image that runs plex?
Jose Bonilla there actually is one, called rasplex. It works great and requires next to no setup for the pi.
I was about to ask how this compared to Rasplex. I've used it in the past and it was pretty good!
Martin Paoloni since I plan on trying this out, I'll let you know how I feel about it, compared to rasplex!
Jon bell awesome. looking forward to your comments! Thanks.
I also meant why they did not release a image for x86 machines too. I was looking forward to an all Plex box.
Connecticut!
I really dont see any use for plex if you have kodi and just 1 good 3rd party addon.
MrAnhell the only way I can see it being useful is if you are connected to a remote Plex server or you have a need to pause and resume on a different device. And your playback device is Raspberry Pi.

hi!
Hello!
Lon.TV lol, noti squad will always be here to back you up!
I just use RasPlex on my raspberry, it's free and doesn't require a Plex Pass.
www.rasplex.com/
if you do knew you get news like fox and cnn
I paid for this review and it's biased because that's what I paid for. ^_^ Lol jk. =P
