  • Chicago ballet dancer Sara Strom is back performing the "Nutcracker" after having surgery for ankle pain. . Dr. George Holmes, foot and ankle orthopedic surgeon at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush (MOR), removed the os trigonum bone in her ankle. Os trigonum Syndrome is very common in dancers who are always on pointe, which causes added stress to the ankle area. MOR foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeons treat many of the dancers in Chicago and throughout Illinois. Find out more at rushortho.com.

I just underwent this surgery a matter of days ago (also a ballet dancer) and am currently all wrapped up and recovering. Can't wait to be back up.

It went amazing, I still have a little click but it doesnt bother me at all. Make sure you have a surgeon than understands exactly the range of motion you need for dancing

I know this comment is old but how did you find the recovery? I had surgery 3 months ago, now pretty much allowed to do full ballet class but it still hurts and feels really different than the other foot. Should I be worried?

@@Blue70712 Hi, i actually stopped dancing after surgery, but it'd say you should definitely do some physical therapy. I feel like what affected me the most was that mentally I just didn't trust my ankle to go en pointe... and I still have some left over clicking, but no major pain. I'd say give it at least 6 months before you feel back to normal

@@barcodepapel7420 Omg! Do you mean that click when you point your foot? That's one of the main things I had a problem with before I had the surgery. Sometimes it was so bad my toe got stuck
