4:55 it is for defensive purposes. Blocking head kicks, hooking punches, elbows, etc., you need to be able to put the glove up against your head to block.
I have been watching PRIDE FC again this year. The advantage of the PRIDE glove is the lack of eye pockes. The disadvantage is the difficulty to aply a rear neck choke.
Cass Bell in the house, always entertaining, the Bellator gloves are called Powerlock and made by Everlast, have you had any trouble grappling in the Bellator gloves compared to the straight UFC type?
Literally just watched Leon Edwards eyepoke on Belal Muhammad and than searched pride vs. ufc gloves. Only 1 rd in and it was a no contest cuz Belal couldn't see. Smh. Change your glove design UFC!!!!!
They aren't far better. They just removed the laces and the little rectangle pad on the back of the hand. People used to debate why that rectangle was even there. I think it was there for weight. Like maybe the gloves weighed 4oz without the pad..but they wanted 5oz gloves, so they added the pad. I used to hear that the Pride gloves were a little heavier than the UFC gloves..and the UFC use 4 oz. So that might be it.
Thank you for making this video! I've always wanted a pair of PRIDE/DREAM gloves, but if I can't get one, thanks to you, I can go directly to Winning and buy a pair.
The contract was between the Dream Stage entertainment and Winning directly. They won't reproduce the gloves for anyone. If you are looking to buy a pair, save around $800-$1200 for an original, or purchase the Rizin fight glove for $150 instead.
All that profit and all the fighters get while risking their health for entertainment are cheap chinese made gloves, for shame Dana, at least Scott Coker cares about his fighters.

Are their any fighters here that could answer this question? Would the pride gloves be disadvantageous for BJJ techniques? I imagine it wouldn't help. If it's not detrimental to BJJ, idk why the UFC hasn't made the switch.
I have trained BJJ in UFC, Pride and Rizin gloves. All gloves make BJJ a little more difficult, but there are no major disadvantages between them in BJJ.
Trevor Smith I feel like the UFC will never want to acknowledge that Pride had anything over them, including their glove design. They were burnt so badly during the take over deal that they killed Pride and never looked back. The short answer is yes, they need to use a modern design that protects the hands and deters eye pokes. At the moment I beleive the Onyx gloves made by Trevor Witman will be their best option. The new glove deal with Dyaco may get in the way though... also the fact that Trevor does not want to share ownership of his company with the UFC.

Well you can purchase a PRIDE style glove from brands such as Isami, Thunder Fight Gear, or Dynasty MMA. Isami is a solid brand and made the gloves for great former promotions like DREAM and Sengoku.
I have owned the Isami, they are good quality. I currently own the Dynasty and they are a nasty cheap version. Sengoku were made by Isami and are therefore exactly the same as their current offering. DREAM gloves were made by Winning and are almost identical to Pride gloves.
The UFC is a business and businesses don't make decisions unless it affects their money either positively or negatively. Eye pokes in the grand scheme of things do not cost them anything. It could cost a fighter his vision and his career, but for them fighters are expendable and replaceable. They are not gonna pay more money for something that is not gonna make them more money. Honestly if there was a cheaper glove out there they would get that before they would pay more for a better glove. The only way this change happens is if the fighters unify and demand it but that is never gonna happen.
i just got some PRIDE gloves today and oh my gosh the difference between my old pair and the PRIDE is startling cuz i barely have to move my hand and I'm already making a fist whereas with the UFC style it takes quite a bit of effort
you're essentially talking about a used glove, comparing it with a new glove... of course they are gonna feel different, and of course the used pride glove allows you to make a fist more easily, it's been broken in for years. the ufc gloves look like they haven't been used at all, so of course it's gonna be more difficult to make a really tight fist wearing them... nothing too surprising... I didn't know the pride gloves were so valuable though- and that was interesting... but the comparison between these two gloves doesn't really say anything other than a broken in glove is more flexible than a stiff new one. compare it with an mma glove that's been used for a long time, or compare a brand new pride glove with your mma glove...
Mike B I have brand new Pride gloves, Dream gloves and Rizon gloves. The comparison remains exactly the same. It’s the construction and shape of the glove that is key, I was worried about the softness.
5 years on and still no curved gloves in the UFC. It's ridiculous, but Dana White et Al won't ever admit another promotion did something better than them.
what i dont know is why wont they put protection for fingers like gel to protect eye pokes. overall pride glove is a lot better. bought a knockoff UFC glove for $9 lol
The ufc needs to switch to a pride or even a bellator style glove. All this talk about eye pokes and was it an accident or not. With the pride style it will be easier to distinguish the fighters intent. With the ufc style i understand when a fighter says it was an accident but remenber fighters are always looking for that edge and every little bit they will take. Would stipe just lose if dc didnt get him in the eye like that? Who knows? Unfortunately this type a thing happens all the time. Get poked extremely hard in the eye, start having trouble seeing, and then try and finish one of the best fighters of all time. Just like steroids only help just a little bit for some guys or missing weight just gives the guy a little bit more gas in the tank or a nasty eye poke hinders the fighter just enough to finish him.
If the pride glove you own has been used for many years, like you said, then the pride glove will have been broken in, I have been training mma for many years and I use the official UFC gloves to fight in (I have blacked mine out though, not that that will affect the performance in any way) and once I had broken the UFC gloves in, I ran into absolutely no flexibility problems, also, pride gloves look like they are made to fit the hands when wrapped or not wrapped, with the UFC gloves I found that going a size bigger helps because having your hands wrapped in the UFC gloves is quite uncomfortable when you wear your exact sized glove. I would also like to mention, I sped up the break in time of my UFC glove by wearing them and dipping my hands in hot, but not boiling water and then wearing them until dry.
Firstly, the Pride gloves HAVE been used for many years and have been extremely well worn in. I currently have 4 pairs of PRide and Dream gloves (both made by Winning) and know the difference between a worn in pair and a fresh one. I also have a fight coming up in December and understand how eye pokes work. I'm glad you haven't poked anyone but the UFC gloves certainly don't help that situation. The main difference between Pride and UFC gloves is the fact that Pride gloves were designed to protect the hands right out of the box. UFC gloves are just cheap cover for the hands. Appreciate your opinion though, we all get them :)
@@theaverageaussie7630 Wondering how many fighters need to lose eyes before the UFC addresses this issue? PRIDE, DREAM, RIZIN.. can they just move onto the proven superior design already? I have heard a lot of theories. But I always figured it was to add weight to the gloves. I know Rizin did away with that pad on their new gloves (different manufacturer anyway). Have you ever found out what it was for?
@@michaelr.4878 they did say 'Fighting Road' on the gloves. If you google it you will find some good examples. You can pick those up fairly easily for around $100. The quality isn't comparable to Pride, but the style of them is similar and they are probably the closest in quality I suppose... Great question on the wrist pad. I have plenty of theories, like added weight, helps stiffen the wrist for a little extra protection, provides a nice clear zone for sponsor labels or logo's etc. I personally think it had more to do with the ergonomic design of the glove. For example, when you wear a standard UFC glove, the padding runs from the finger tips to the strap at the wrist and it makes it hard to form a good closed fist (especially with wraps underneath). It's really tight and encourages you to keep an open hand rather than closed fist. The Pride/Dream/Rizin gloves padding runs from the fingers up to just behind the knuckles. This means the fingers have nothing pulling on them and you can close your fist really easily. The difference in movement and ergonomics is one of the best features of the Pride gloves. Think of a mattress that is designed to fold in half, versus trying to fold a standard mattress in half, it is the same force of opposition. The fact that the rectangle wrist padding was there seemed to just be a space filler for logos etc and that is why the design has changed in shape and size over the years.
UFC gloves are probably meant to be expendable. Why spend 300 dollars on one fight? I know i personally would do that, but as a business with hundreds of fighters. It isn't viable.

99% of the population would still rather drive a ferrari than a shitty toyota.
Pride перчатки похожи на краги для рб

I don't want "pride" on my gloves lol
The gloves are MEIN!
The Pride Gloves aren't better than the UFC Gloves. he is just making the Pride Gloves sound good just cause he had a friend who gave him them. The UFC Glove is actually better for you.
You ever worn a pair? I think you would be surprised. UFC gloves are made by Century and are cheap junk.
Wait....youre not actually comparing beaten up, broken in gloves to never worn/once worn gloves are you? No doubt pride gloves are still better but you're comparison is literally meaningless.
You didn't actually watch the video, did you? I addressed the fact that I was comparing used gloves against new ones at least three different times. I constantly made note that the comparison was not in relation the current condition of either glove, but the design generally. I actually own a brand new and unused pair of Pride gloves now and will make a new video shortly.
takes some notes ufc and dana egg head white
It's pronounced Hun-die
Where the F*** did you get official Pride gloves????!!!!!! If you ever wanna sell them contact me!
I have 3 pairs of Pride gloves and two of Dream. Will let you know if I ever sell (Y)
PSMTCHEF did you not even watch the video he explains exactly where he got the gloves it took him almost 3 minutes to explain it what the fuck can you not pay attention for 3 minutes
Peter Produce wasn't even three minutes. he said his friend gave them to him at like :45
Try watching the first minute of the video.
Pride better
doublicate ufc gloves
Pride all the way lad
In design and material PRIDE gloves are way better, UFC gloves seem 100% cheap
Pride gloves are the best
who cares? the gloves are basically the same.
I think if the used the pride glove in the ufc there would be less eye pokes.
Agreed.
To me the blue glove looks cheap
because its old style
Bill Peirce its been used for training dude didn't you watch the video??
