I sure hope Dalton's computer doesn't vanish from existence so we can finally see the 4 hour discussion about the grand total of 3 bones that are known from Atrociraptor
Informational: "Park Manager" is the phrase Frontier uses to refer to the player in all text blogs and trailers. "Park Manager's Collection" means "Players collection", as it's all creatures heavily requested by the playerbase: Megalodon is probably the most requested creature of JWE2s lifespan Microceratus has been a common request since JWE1 and was strangely absent from both Dominion DLCs Segisaurus has been a common yet niche choice for a while due to its canonimity Thanatosdrakon. Not Informational: No really, Thanatosdrakon is a lovely design but I'm not the type to roll over and accept every decision Frontier makes. It's a players choice pack, genuinely about 5 people asked for Thanatosdrakon, why on earth did Frontier pick this over most other Azhdarchids? If they didn't want to do Hatzegopteryx because the animal still can't walk, okay I guess; but then Arambourgiania and Cryodraken were still fairly requested as opposed to unheard of. If it's cause they wanted to add a small Azhdarchid, Phosphotodraco was more requested in that regard; and also Thanatosdrakon was still the height of a T-rex and yet in-game isn't even half as tall as one. I don't care what Twitter and Reddit say, adding this specific creature in a popular choice pack is baffling and honestly a dumb decision imo.
@@SmashBrosAssemble yeah don’t say “undoubtedly” this is the end most likely. The second JWE had aquatics and pterosaurs are the main new creatures to draw in people. Most likely they will use cenozoics and maybe prehistoric insects like arthroplura in the 3rd game to get people hyped and buy it
Megalodon's contemporaries from the Pisco Formation in Peru are really interesting creatures worth talking about. We have stuff like: Livyatan, a giant raptorial sperm whale that's almost always depicted fighting Megalodon Acrophyseter, a 4-5 meter long sperm whale. It may have been the smallest raptorial sperm whale. Odobenocetops, a toothed whale with an unusually shaped skull and tusks. Its tusks could grow to at least 1 meter in length in one species (O. Leptodon). Thalassocnus, a ground sloth with sizes ranging from 2.1 to 3.3 meters and the only aquatic xenarthran. It probably fed primarily on seagrasses and "walked" along the sea floor while foraging. Acrophoca, a seal that was not as specialized for aquatic life as more modern seals due to its less developed flippers. It was thought to be ancestral to leopard seals but appears to be more closely related to monk seals. Piscogavialis, an 8 meter long marine gavialid crocodilian that may have primarily preyed on fast-swimming fish. It coexisted with another gavialid Sacacosuchus, which was only 4 meters long. Sacacosuchus had a more generalist diet. Some species from the Pisco formation that coexisted with Megalodon are still alive today, like the humboldt penguin, sand tiger shark and great white shark.
It's basically a fan highlight pack. Segisaurus and Microceratus round up the film canon species and both are often included in fan dlc lists. Megalodon or at least a prehistoric sharkbis a often requested species as well. Thanotosdrakon seems like the weird one out. As there is quite a few other pterosaurs that pop up more often like Dearc. That being said another Azhdarchid at all is an common request. Overall i love all four of them. Thanotosdrakon is amazing as a plaeo accurate design, i love they didn't just make Megalodon an oversized Great white, Microceratus is adorable in a fucked up pug way (and they got both their movie skins), and Segisaurus looks like he just walked out of the Jurassic park with the classic 90s dinosaur toy look.
There's a recurring theme where dinosaurs that were given names preoccupied by bugs become nomen dubia or junior synonyms of other taxa later on (Ingenia, Syntarsus, Microceratops, Diceratops, Protognathus). Now I'm not saying it was Big Entomology, but golly is it interesting.

Ah yes, the Skeleton Crew are covering my favorite DLC pack The ugly cute tiny ceratopsian, the one thats bigger than Compy, the most beautiful Azhdarchid model thats in a Jurassic World game and Meggy. And 3 hours too? Perfect to listen to while studying!
This pack is really cool from a gameplay standpoint as we now have more uber-cheap little critters that are easy to exhibit, which makes them great for higher difficulty challenge parks. I really like that the Segisaurus feels very "Jurassic Park" to me. Something about its skull, its skin and the general colour combinations you can pull off. In general I just really dig the vibes of each of these new species, even Microceratus.
I remember talking online about how the Microceratus is a great example of how a lot of the dinosaurs from Jurassic World look inbred once you start getting used to more lifelike reconstructions and someone pointed out that the Microceratus from Dominion is most likely inbred, considering where it appeared in the movie, and that was a very wise take on its design. It fits the canon and allows it to look god awful.
i had to take a break but now im back and im listening to Dalton go sicko mode about Megalodon. im so glad you guys are in the science communication community. i legitimately enjoy gleaming insights from all of you
Thanatosdrakon is a very nice pterosaur addition that I'll definitely use, but yes I agree with Scott, why the hell isn't this Hatzegopteryx? Especially since this is essentially supposed to be the "Here's your most requested creatures before we end support of the game and make Evolution 3" Pack. I've never actually seen anyone request Thanotosdrakon once, I didn't even know about it until they introduced it into the pack. But I've seen A LOT of people request Hatzegopteryx back when the Dominion DLC was released since they were obviously capable of making the Quetza, and even Rhamphorhynchus was requested since launch.
The currently accepted amount for Megalodon's bite force is 40k lbs per square inch. So yes, its bite is SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than T-Rex's. There is a reason why Megalodon is the record-holder for the strongest bite of any animal that ever lived.
20 min in and James is a confirmed menace. And we love him 40:12 had to pause the video from the horror of that mouth opening 55:09 sooo does that mean a scientist can call a new dinosaur Manospondylus gigas or Dynamosaurus imperiosus with no/little issue from the powers that be.
I think the reason this DLC is a mish-mash is because it’s the last one. They’re working on JWE3 and this was a “there you go now it’s in the game” before it ends
There is a theme. It’s likely the last DLC of the game so they added some of the most requested animals. The Meg has been wanted since they did lagoons. The Dino’s are the last 2 canon Dino’s from the movie/novel to be added to the game. The Pterosaur is the only random animal to be added.
3:00:00 thanks James for putting into words a thought that I've had about the game's approach to animal patterns for a long time now. that said, honestly I think the Meg's current look has maybe the most authentic feel I can imagine for it that isn't either plain with coloured fin tips or a pattern that's lifted wholesale from a tiger shark. also you said exactly my thoughts on the Microceratus too, calling it a Star Wars creature lmao. overall a pretty solid pack but Thanatosdrakon is the standout for me, what a beautiful animal, especially that pattern that had a reddish bill with darker bands around it. my number one wish from JWE3 is that azhdarchids are liberated from the constraints of the universal pterosaur skeleton, so that they can behave and move around more like real azhdarchids are thought to have done. anyways, can't wait for next week, when the Atrociraptor video is once again waylaid by Frontier quickfire announcing their grand finale DLC; the long-awaited, much-anticipated Asian Stegosaur pack.

I really enjoy the spots and stripes as an obscure reference to some of the more nontraditional theoretical reconstructions of the shark. Depictions leaning towards a more Sand Tiger type body plan for example!
The final on-screen (live action) dinosaur, the last of the 15 dinosaurs on InGen's List, a big shark and a dragon of death. While this is (possibly) the last DLC, Frontier has gotten their Jurassic World license extended by Comcast, so there's going to be a Jurassic World Evolution 3 in the near future, most likely next summer. So there's a chance a final DLC for JWE2 would be coming out by the end of this year.
Segisaurus is a low A for adequate. Also, in spite of the sheer amount of media about megalodon that's out there, this is the most that I've ever learned about it. It's such an iconic creature that's wayyyy too obfuscated by its own popularity. Also, I like how someone pointed out that the dark spots look like a trout which was my first thought as well.
Think it's called the Park Managers Collection because 2 of the creature were highly requested. The Microceratus for being the one Canon Dinosaur that up to this point have yet been put in the game, and the Megalodon because people want this fish in everything. Tho some people think the Meg would fit a Cenozoic Pack better since Camp Cretaceous did feature a Smilodon
This definitely felt like the "There, this is in the game, now shut up" DLC. I LOVE the Megalodon and Thanatosdrakon, I strongly dislike Microceratus, and Segisaurus is just a slightly changed Coelophysis. I do wish this isn't the DLC the game ends on, tho. Mine were lion and rook Edit 3: the ICZN was formed in september 1895 which could explain the odd choice of wording
This pack is basically a fan favorites pack in disguise. Segi, Meg and Micro were all highly requested creatures while Thanatosdrakon is basically a replacement for the highly requested Hatzgopteryx which i honestly kind of prefer since we need South America representation in the game and i like when devs choose obscure and/or recently described species instead of going for the obvious, popular ones. And yeah, the fact that this is basically a fan favorites pack means that it's likely the last dlc.
To borrow the quote from the late Donald Pleasance to describe the Megalodon aka the sharky shark, "No reason, no uh conscience, no understanding in even the most rudimentary sense of life and death, or good or evil, right or wrong...this blank, pale emotionless face and the blackest eyes... the Devil's eyes."
I’m surprised that you guys didn’t mention how they added in the shark thing, which is that not only do its jaws push forward when it eats things, but it also rolls its eyes back.
Potentially unpopular opinion ... but I absolutely cannot believe that anyone actually cares about Segisaurus. However I will concede that it's skins look awesome, and I like that it looks like something that could've been in the original Jurassic Park. I just wish it did something unique, like eating from the Insect Feeder or something.
I wish it was more special too but if it ate from the insect feeder that wouldn’t make much sense if things like compy and other scavengers didn’t too since they would probably all equally eat insects. there’s no evidence for segi being more of an insect eater than the others unlike jehlopterus. Also I think since the insect feeder is apart of the feathered dlc they can’t add more creatures to eat from it since they would have an insectivore whose feeder is locked behind a different dlc. Hopefully in the third game a lot of the small critters can eat insects
I'm personally not a big fan of megalodon as an animal, a little over-hyped, but the colors and patterns they gave it go so hard. Thanatosdrakon is my personal favorite of this pack, purely because it is a reasonably sized azdarchid pterosaur
I do like that the oldest & youngest animals in the game (geologically speaking) are both Fish.
From fish you have come, and to fish you shall return
I think this game needs one more monster fish. Xiphactinus as the “middle man” between Dunkleosteus and Otodus megalodon.

Dalton: When I was a kid it was either paleontology or sharks"
He is so me
To borrow the quote from the late Donald Pleasance to describe the Megalodon aka the sharky shark, "No reason, no uh conscience, no understanding in even the most rudimentary sense of life and death, or good or evil, right or wrong...this blank, pale emotionless face and the blackest eyes... the Devil's eyes."
Guess I know what I’m going for the rest of the week.
Same
yea lol
And now I'm vastly more educated than I was a minute ago: I've learned the word conniption and I will use it a lot.
Alex backhandedly comparing James to Donald Trump over his dislike of sharks was the last thing I expected out of this episode
It’s here!!
Only edit was proving Alex wrong. I approve.
Them excitingly going to Megalodon only for it to be flying away is hilarious.
2:03:54
Now the real question is if James okay? Did he finally get to rest?
Backstory to his new job? Etc.
Good heavens... a three hour video
SAFE TRAVELS, JAMES!!!! IM GONNA WATCH THE FHONKING VIDEO
2:11:32 there’s also venomous snakes in Iowa but only near me for some fuckin reason
oh I prefer this much more over Atrociraptor
Love the new frames on all ur names
Jimbo you’re coming back to Long Island?!? Holy Hadrosaurus I might get to see you I plan on going to Stony Brook for college!
Holy Hadrosaurs Batman.
I've been jonesing for this.
"J**z Whalers on the moon" almost made me destroy my laptop with spat out coffee, thank you skeleton crew
The Thanatosdrakon is the second in-Game Creature I never heard about before
Scott said it for me, I'M that pedantic
1:28:42 there is something called penguraptor?!
