  • Found a neat new world in VRChat last night. Magic Eye Museum by Sly Boots. I love everything 3D and this was a totally fun place to check out.

    I love the old school transparency 3D dolphins ... Literally as you say "it doesn't show up well on the camera" you see the darn things moving around as you tilt and turn it ... 😂

    I actually have one of those early 1900s stereoscopes! Exact same model. Those things are so cool, being able to see 3D images from the late 1800s to early 1900s. It's the closest thing to time travel you can get.

    If you enjoyed this so much you should check out a 3D movie in a VR headset. That's how I watch my collection of 3D Blu-rays that I bought and it's really cool.

      Also I just tried this world and I think the Blue on the red blue glasses is a bit of a deeper shade than it's supposed to be. I think it's supposed to be a slightly lighter shade of blue to accommodate the cyan, and because it isn't the 3D on it looks slightly off.

      ...always needed to add a .txt file with the 3D movie file (containing split configuration) but then 3D media works perfectly in Big Screen. I still don't get why 3D TVs didn't make more use of the stereoscopic features and show two different 2D images at the same time. I remember using PiP as a kid so one of us could play games and the other could watch TV. We could've used 3D TVs but instead of each pair of glasses having one L and one R, each pair could show one channel to both eyes.

      @@jamescarr229 I could never get my side by side rips to work properly in big screen. It always shows a full frame 2D image even though when I open the same file in VLC it shows the split. What I end up doing is just playing the file in VLC and then setting the desktop view to side by side 3D mode

      @@chrisfratz you can add a text file with the same name as the movie with content:
      { "format": "3D" }
      then it should play in Big Screen. Can also use "3DLR" to specifiy side-by-side, "3DLRF" for full-screen, "3DTB" for tob-bottom and "3DTBF" for tb full-screen,

    My uncle has that device and has displayed it as part of his "Tech through the ages" display and its interesting the fundamentals haven't changed just the technology around it.

    That last one with the 3D dolphins is based on a lenticular image. I've always loved those!

    • @DiThi
      @DiThi Рік тому

      Lenticular images are just a few images combined with lens lines to show only one at a time. Holograms on the other side have many more "images", it's like having a lot of micro lenses each showing a point of one of the images, also known as a light field array. But old school holograms like that one don't use lenses. The principle is similar, but the creation and display use a completely different method. It etches a pattern result of the interference between the waves of a laser in different points of view. The video "making real holograms" show how to make them with lasers, and the video "handmade holograms are really weird" explains how to "hand draw" holograms with a compass, which can help explain how wavy patterns can create 3D images. Just imagine that a point, instead of an arc, it's a straight line of many many tiny arcs to avoid the warping.

    I always hated these things as a kid, they NEVER worked for me. Later when I went to college I think it was a psychology class I learned that it was possible that it has to do with the way people's brain processes these pictures.
