    Gold content. Todd's effortless style is addictive and looks very effective. Would love to see him get into it and see his improved version later on for sure.
    Winston, would love to see some older guys like Todd still hittin' some good balls.
    Thanks as always for the awesome content.

    Todd is a tricky player with old school type game who didn't give you pace, a la Manarino. Winston, you returned very well, and did a good job extending the points... patience won the day.

    • @PickleTechProductions
      @PickleTechProductions 6 місяців тому

      He plays exactly like my coach friend. Just content to keep the ball in and let me miss. Sometimes when he gets a sitter he will put some pace on it and put it away. It's really hard to beat these guys unless you are consistent and have weapons that can move them around. Oh anytime I play singles with my friend, he's a 4.5, I might get 1 or 2 games where he is fooling around.

    Hi everyone, it's Todd. Quick shout out to Winston for having me on the channel even though I had no business being out here. 🙂
    It was a fun experience, and a little surreal having the camera there and a reminder that this could get a lot of views.
    I learned a lot from playing this match and watching it later and realizing I can't be so passive. I have to keep focused on my strategy and getting after my shots.
    I look forward to our rematch!

    Well played by Winston, some smooth tennis at times from Todd. As an older player who used to play with multifilament and switched to poly, the groundstroke consistency with way more power and spin is off the charts in comparison, I can hit sooo much harder now -- and so I wonder how it would be if Todd switched to the Hyper G Round or at least like mains with poly and crosses with multi if concerns over the arm. I feel like he would have made a good deal more of his attacking shots, playing with multi it feels so much harder to consistently make aggressive groundstrokes thus the impetus for more slicing, taking the ball early and getting to net.

    One glaring thing is that Todd comes close to the baseline after hitting every shot, then when a shot comes to him, he backs up and hits. He looses power and penetration with this back up footwork pattern.
    Instead, he should recover by back up after every shot and then come forward into every shot. This will give more natural power and consistency and add heaviness to the ball.

  • @IronJohn755
    @IronJohn755 2 місяці тому

    The 4.5/5.0 divide is interesting. Seems like: 4.5; Either a) athletic person with good mechanics and power who needs better consistency (e.g. Winston), or b) very consistent, but no athleticism, power or mechanics (won't name names, but search for USTA 4.5 on youtube). The latter group seems to hit the ceiling at 4.5, and the former will move up as their consistency improves. 5.0; either a) High-level older players who have lost some condition (e.g. Todd), or b) those former 4.5a's on their way up.
    Basically, you do not cross that divide without good athleticism and striking power. To move beyond it you need total consistency, strategy and conditioning.

    This guy is definitely not a 5.0. He’s a 4.5 and that’s perfectly fine. His body language was very poor which led to him somewhat tanking. Maybe he was feeling the nerves of being filmed, but his mechanics, footwork & shot selections were not of a 5.0 player.
    Winston, I actually would like to see you use the reverse forehand more when you’re behind the baseline. You’re creating more revolutions on the ball and can hit some tricky patterns with the reverse.

    From this video, Todd's strokes are smooth, but he doesn't have the mobility to get to the ball and keep a rally going. In his current physical shape, he would lose to most 4.5 singles players (like Winston) who are steady and move the ball around the court. He was out of gas after 10 minutes of singles and won almost none of the rallies that went beyond 3-4 shots. He might be a bit better in doubles, but otherwise, pickleball might be a better option.
    For context, I was a computer rated 5.0 from 2015-2017, which was the last time that I played in USTA leagues (So Cal section), so I'm commenting from my personal experience here.
