My brain keeps trying to fill in lyrics every time the song switches and it’s creating interesting results
Listening to this makes me realize how much Aaron Burr calls Alex “immigrant”
Yet both are considered as best friends with a love-hate relationship
i find it clever how its usage evolves over the course of the musical. in the very first song its very much said with the tone of 'how inspiring, good for you', and in yorktown we see solidarity between hamilton and lafayette ("immigrants: we get the job done"). but it is very quickly turned around against him by his detractors, like in we know they say "an immigrant embezzeling our government funds, i can almost see the headline" as if they shouldve expected it. and then in your obedient servant, the line "arrogant immigrant, orphan, bastard, whore's son" are almost spat out by burr-- notice the lack of "scotsman", like he is trying to distance hamilton's immigrant background from the other 'respectable' euro-amerikans in government. america loves a good rags to riches story right until power corrupt like it is want to do, then the corruption is blamed on their background of rags rather than their riches. and the very things that made him a phenomenon are now detestable qualities.
@@ciredan8888 Yeah, and with Jefferson saying 'this immigrant isn't somebody we chose, this immigrant's keeping us all on our toes'.
You never realized that before now? 😂
