Ah, yes, this is a direct result of being a father of 4 kids. Recording videos during the day and not having screaming and insanity in the background is nigh impossible. To be fair, though, I'd probably be doing this at 3am if I was back in my single days anyway. Artists are night owls!
@@MatthewMarquit wow 4 kids. That must be rough. I am the 2nd out of 3 kids and my brother just moved out so we are 2 left. An 18 year old and a 16 year old. Thanks for responding.
After I create tilemap and stretch it to entire screen as in this tutorial, later in game when I create another separate sprite on screen, and try to choose and drag it - always the entire tilemap gets chosen instead. Any way to bypass it? Like turning off this tilemap or something Thanks!
Hi Matthew, you mention that you are teaching this couse, where at ? I have the same game assets can you share your notes, its kind of hard to see them fully, great work !
You mean the tilemap? You can resize the image either in another program like Photoshop then re-import, or if you double-click on the tilemap in the Project bar to bring up the Tilemap Source Image Editor and hit (alt + r) it brings up the Resize Image Canvas.
Hello Matthew. First of all, thank you for this beautiful tutorial. I have a question: when you add a tilemap, I've seen that you've got a whole tilemap and the separeted png files. Let's assume I don't have the whole tilemap: what do I have to do if I want to use the separated files? Do I have to create a tilemap for each of them? Thank you in advance!
Great question. Yes, you need the files to be combined into one image. Depending on how many images you have and the average size of them will determine how large your tile map needs to be. Do the math, then after creating the new file set up a grid. In Photoshop (the program I use) you can show a Grid by going to View>Show>Grid. To change the grid to match your intended size go to Edit>Preferences>Guides, Grid & Slices. Under the Grid section set it to pixels and then setup the Gridline Every to match the pixel size of each tile. Copy the images over, align them to the grid, be sure there is no background, and save it as a png.
I mention in the previous video that I'm using these assets: (Bilge Kaan- Super Platformer Assets) www.scirra.com/store/2d-game-graphics-packs/super-platformer-assets-1059. However, they aren't free so if you want something that won't cost you anything the previous video also discusses alternatives.
Yes and No. It's free to a point. You get a few features locked out and you only get 50 events in the free version, but it's enough to help you learn the engine to determine if it's worth paying for it.
@@DraganDraws There is no physical copy as far as I'm aware. And no, there is no time limit to the free version, you can use it as much as you need to.
I like how this video was recorded at 3 am

Being that this is made for my college students, that statement really isn't that far off :p

For some reason, I can't import the tilemap into the tilemap bar. It all just showa up as 1 tile in the bar.
thanks so much for this! gonna go through your whole tutorial series 🙏

How do you resize the title image? When I do it, it just alters the cropping of the tile without changing the title image size whatsoever.

Now, if you mean where you can get access to them that others have made, there are some in this pack: kenney.nl/assets/background-elements-redux
Is construct 3 free?
