- Another film recorded by a man named John Lane from Heppner, Oregon. In this silent home movie there are multiple scenes of the Rock Island Dam, The Dalles Dam and Celilo Falls. I've detailed as much as I could based on his had written notes found on the Kodachrome boxes, and my own investigations.

00:35 - Possibly Dalles Dam Construction
02:17 - Air show. Jets in formation

05:27 - John Lane's car with Rock Island Dam in background
06:01 - View from WA-28 and Rock Island Dam in distance
06:30 - Small Village, unknown. John Lane on camera (hat) talking to older man
07:58 - Construction site and vehicles
08:56 - Flying above unknown location
09:12 - Person on the shore. A few seconds
09:16 - View from vista point looking down on Celilo Falls. Box dated 1957 with writing on box "The end of Celilo" Cars parked on freeway.
At age 16, I took off with my 15 year old brother, riding an old Harley from the Monterey Bay area of central CA to Spokane, WA. We had no tent....just sleeping bags we threw on the ground wherever night found us. Just so happened we found a place to the right of the highway (headed east) right across from the construction of a new dam....the Dalles Dam. Construction was in full swing with loud equipment and pile drivers making a horrendous cresendo.....we didn't realize just how loud it was until after we had settled in for the night.....not much sleep that night.
Wow! You have some nice, color footage of the U.S. Navy's Blue Angles flight demonstration team when they were flying the Grumman F9F Panther (the Panther was the "Blues" first jet aircraft). Thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much for the info!
This is cool. The last one isn’t a view from a plane though. He hiked to the top of the hill.
Thanks for the correction! It was so high up I wasn't sure.
I see that "road work ahead" is not a recent phenomenon in Oregon!
3:51 is the mcnary dam
Thanks!
