- A recent article got me questioning whether or not I should be feeding birds from my backyard feeders. I ponder the pros and cons while considering the ecological impact and the moral obligation. Okay, maybe it's not that deep...at the very least, come see the birds who have visited my southern Ontario, Canada feeders this winter!

So much to consider that I never thought about. Thank you for a thorough dive into bird feeding pros and cons. I o agree with you that sharing the appreciation of nature is so important. It also makes you stop and “smell the roses” in life. Watching beautiful birds is so calming and peaceful and I am in awe of God’s creations.
Hi Jenifer, yes, plenty to ponder, just hoping I'm not doing more bad than good. Although from the articles I read, I shouldn't be screwing up the ecosystem too much! It is certainly nice to just sit in the summer, stand in the winter, and watch the visitors come to my yard.
We love our birds here in Midwest U.S.A., and yes I feed them year round. I also provide fresh water everyday. It does get expensive, but the fun and general well being they bring into my life, is well worth it. I also appreciate that they help with my garden, and help the trees around our wooded lot, by eating bugs... Thanks for the video & for helping feathered friends.
Hi Gloria, thank you for your comment and for helping feathered friends as well! Yes, bug control is a very valuable service that they provide for free. There is a small creek in the woods behind our house for their water supply, but the summer bird bath provides some entertainment as well. Thanks very much for watching!
Thank you for taking the time to do research about feeding the birds and passing it along. I also appreciated the identification of different species. It was so nice to sit and watch the birds up close as the male cardinal is my favourite.
Not too sure if I got a goldfinch right! In a month or two I think they will be bright yellow and then I'll be certain.
Nice summary. Brian. When I run out of birdseed in the winter here in the Catskills (NY), there always seems to be a concerned bluejay who sits on my porch railing and stares at me through my kitchen window. I get the message!
I get the same thing here with the blue jays. Sometimes I'll look out my kitchen window and see four or five sitting in the trees waiting for me to toss peanuts to them. There is one who will stand on the deck railing and stare at me through the window just like yours! There is one who will take peanuts from my hand, I'll try to work on the other ones. Hi Diane, I have a longer segment of the red male cardinal just chewing away on sunflower seeds for all he's worth. I'll put together some different videos, maybe focusing on one species at a time, then again it's nice to see several types of birds enjoying their time together at the feeder.
