    Very interesting test, thank you for sharing! I was really excited to pick these up and I see a huge difference between the compact high output and other compact batteries. The HO hits hard like an XC pack would. I’m really excited about them because I often find myself wanting the smallest form factor but unwilling to sacrifice peak performance. Overall I’m extremely happy with my HO batteries.

    Thank you for the review. I really appreciate your time. I always thought the the 3.0cp is a good battery because it lasted a bit longer than the 2.0 in my vaccuum, ratchets and rover. Now i am seeing it is not a quality battery for its price and that "bit" of time longer.. I am about to to purchase a new m12 battery and i am now planning to purchase the new 2.5 to give it a try. What I find interesting is the 2 CP 3.0 batteries I have are LG HG2 batteries. I bought these batteries in May of 2022 from Grainger. The only date code I could find was on the circuit board and it is 01/2016. Maybe the older cp3.0 batteries got the chocolate batteries and newer models received the cells that are in your cp3.0s. We will never know. Thanks for the great testing!

    @gf2e Рік тому +2

    If I ever get some proper machining gear like a mill or lathe, I’m going to try and make a 3 cell pack out of mainly solid copper, with holes the precise size of the cells. Let’s soak up that heat :)
    Alternatively, a small fan and air channels.
    I could probably simulate that with three cells inside a six cell pack with a big fan. Figure out if “perfect cooling” would yield good results. If three cells in the open with a PC fan blowing isn’t wonderfully better, obviously no point in trying anything else.
    I have looked around to see if I could find pouch lithium cells that would fit inside the handle on an M18 pack but haven’t found any small enough with enough capacity to be worth it. I really like the idea of having the cells inside the handle only…if I wanted a rectangular block under my handle, I’d have DeWalt or Makita 12v.

    • @Tools-Tested
      @Tools-Tested  Рік тому +1

      Yeah sadly there is not much room to work with in the handle, but it would be nice to have a pouch battery.

    • @gf2e
      @gf2e Рік тому

      @@Tools-Tested When I’ve held the Makita and DeWalt 12v, I’ve realized how much the battery in the handle design of M12 expands the handle. My hands are average and I’m usually using my tools in some weird and uncomfortable position, so I don’t really mind the handle being a bit harder to grip.
      (Eg: last time I was drilling a hole in metal, it was in the ~10” wide gap between two frame parts of the back of my RV. An ergonomic grip would have done nothing. Thick thread tapping oil, though - that was great. I keep forgetting that it’s not just CNC mills that need cutting lubricants.)

    I stand corrected. Those are the 25S Samsungs. I thought initially they were 25R's. The 25S has a max continuous discharge rate of 25A, the 25R has a 20A max, and the 30Q has a 15A max draw. That's the difference. Now that I have that figured out lol, I would say these are worth the extra 10$ Not enough difference to go crazy over vs. a 3ah. But definitely a better cell. Thanks for the retest. Interested in seeing how the new 5 compares to the 4 & 6 when they are actually attainable.

    • @Tools-Tested

    I'm pretty confident the CP3.0 in this video is a counterfeit. To start, it's got the wrong cells, highly unlikely for MW to make a mistake like that. The M12 logo looks off, just like how they look on counterfeits. Your pack only says "3.0", it should say "CP3.0". Your pack also does not have the screw on the bottom of the base like the new HO CP2.5. MW started putting the screw on the bottom of CP packs with the CP3.0.
    EDIT: I did find photos of early CP3.0s (from consumers) that did say only 3.0 instead of CP3.0 but they all did have the bottom screw construction. My oldest CP3.0 was made early 2018 & it says CP3.0 like all my other ones. CP3.0 & XC6.0 were both released at the same time so they all should have Samsung 30Q cells.

      @@Tools-Tested Yeah I hear ya. Amazon is not a MW dealer so who knows where their stuff comes from. Not all of MW stuff are counterfeited (very little I would say) but you have to be aware buying from Amazon especially if buying from 3rd party sellers. @@Tools-Tested Bought my CP 3.0 in December from Home Depot as a 6.0 and 3.0 starter kit with charger and bag. It has MURATA INR19/66 18650s in it.

    It's weird that the CP3.0 performs so poorly but the XC6.0 performs great. Don't they share the same cells?

      Yeah it’s really weird my CPs have what looks to be ICR Eve battery’s not the Samsung INR which are in the XC. I bought them early this year but look to have been made late 2020. I have ordered a new one from HD and plan on testing it against the 5.0.

      The 6.0XC is in essence, two CP3.0 batteries working side by side. Each sharing half the load. So they can push twice the current flow of a single CP.

    Awesome video. The 25% cooler likely means the cells themselves. Since you are measuring the outside casing which is used to dissipate the heat, a higher case temperature can mean it is drawing the heat out better keeping the cells cooler. Ultimately if you keep the cells under 80C they get more current output and lower voltage sag.

      No problem, makes sense thanks for the info! Seeing the packs have a thermal sensor I wonder if they shut off at 80C, I will have to test that.

    How come the 5.0 High output batteries in the US are called 5.0 XC high output but here in the UK we dont have XC, just 5.0 High output?
    Also the batteries seem so damn expensive in the states. A 2.5 high output is $80 in the US but only £35 in the UK ($42) and the 5.0 high output is $120 in the US, but in the UK the 5.0 is only £50 or around $61.
    Just seems strange to me as i would think Milwaukee being a US company that the batteries would be cheaper for you guys. That being said it seems like the tools themselves are cheaper for you guys across the pond

      Yeah that’s kinda weird, maybe just marketing. I would expect the same cells inside. But it is kinda weird the price is so much cheaper.

    you have a fake cp 3.0ah battery right there. I personally open up all my batteries to see the cells and all my m12 cp 3.0 ah battery have either samsung 30q, which is the same cells in the m12 6.0ah battery and some of my m12 cp3.0 batteries have sony vtc6 cells. Your test also shows that you cp3.0 battery only has 2.0ah of capacity. Your cp3.0 has some off brand cheep low end low discharge 2.0ah cells instead of name brand high discharge 3.0ah cells.

      Come to find out it was a counterfeit 3.0, this was the only one that didn't come from HD.
      I retested with a new 3.0 from HD when I tested the 5ah HO and it was much better.

    That CP 3.0 performed really bad, just like a knock-off battery or a 1.5 disguised as 3.0.
    Personally I own CP1.5, CP3.0, XC4.0 & XC6.0 batteries and the runtime on the 3.0 is much better than the 1.5 (maybe not by double but you get my point).
    The CP 3.0 can power my cutoff tool, jigsaw, ratchet and multitool, but if I switch to the 1.5 my cutoff tool would bog down and drain fast. The only tool I own where the 1.5 feels adequate is on my high speed ratchet and jigsaw.
    Just pointing out my experience

      Hello Friend..thank you for your input on your 3.0cp experience..i was about to purchase another 3.0cp battery but now i am leaning to purchase the 2.5cp battery. To be honest, the 2.0cp battery comes very close to the 3.0cp which now i am saying to myself that i should have just puchase the 2.0cp instead. Take care

    All CP 3.0 batteries use either LG HG2 or Samsung INR-18650 30Q cells. Whoever you bought the CP 3.0 from swapped in a 2.0 cell pack. You really need to take this video down as you are merely testing the 2.5 against a fake 3.0.
