THE ENDLESS JOURNEY - A masterclass on deep Rainbows.

- Опубліковано 20 жов 2024
- Join Hans Kreuer as he furthers his fledgling Euro Nymph journey with the help of good mate, and 11 times national fly fishing champion, Cory Scott. Cory shows Hans one of his favorite local rivers, deep in the North Island backcountry, and gives a crash course on the finer points of what he has dubbed 'Kiwi Contact Nymphing'.
The journey into this remote catchment is tough, with steep climbs and rough terrain testing the legs and lungs. The term 'journey' also aptly describes Hans's desire to keep learning even into his mid fifties.
Amazing country and stunning Rainbows are the perfect backdrop to this voyage of discovery.

would have to rank as one of the best videos of recent time awesome fishing matched by the scenery the falls, what can you say
Thanks do much for the Kindest of words. I'm just stoked they entertain and educate folks and show how special these places are for future generations to come
Cory is a Master angler, I can't wait to get back to NZ.
He is indeed
Absolute perfection, the editing, the footage and the location are just amazing, what a great group of fly fishermen to compliment the journey.
Epic stuff Mike. No matter why you fly fish, these videos of yours touch the soul.
Bravo mate keep it up.👍🏻
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and your very generous thoughts. Humbled indeed!
Every one of Mike's videos is a gem. At about 13 minutes into the video where Cory crossed the stream trying to land that large fish I was impressed. I wouldn't have dared doing that in that flow. Losing that fish must have been heartbreaking. We've all been there... Thanks for posting.
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Yeah Cory's a committed guy when it comes to landing big fish!
When im not fishing im working on fitness and strength so I can do things like that mate, plus having the confidence to do so is key.. it was only when I crossed and got above it that I saw its girth .. hard water to land such a beast.. but moments like that keep me hungry to keep going.. cheers for the support
Another fantastic video Mike!
Epic scenery.
Will definitely have to check out the north island at some point.
Cheers!
Cheers man! Yeah it's certainly worth it!
Great watch :) thanks for sharing 👍🏽
Cheers for watching
Absolutely a awesome video & the river is sweet...
Thanks!
Awesome video! You truly have a gift. Great fly fisherman and amazing cinematographer . Beautiful country you have there. Did you see another fisherman on that trip? Since covid everyone here in the US has gotten into fly fishing. I backpack 7 or 8 miles into the back country to find solitude. Maybe they will lose interest? I am going to have to make a trip out to your beautiful country. Best!
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time the say suck nice things. It's a great fly fishing playground here for sure!
Epic fishing video and great edit mate.
You capture everything from the anglers the background and the grind in, always quality.
Love the backcountry it's bread and butter and so rewarding.
Cheers mate, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment
Another great video with stunning locations, Mike. It's been a while, but it was worth the wait. Would love to fish the North island in the near future. Tight lines!😊
Thanks mate, it's a great fishery up there and caters to all styles
It never ceases to amaze me the evolution in your production films. The stunning camera work, the music mixed in with your narration where everything from picture to the crystal clear audio of the ambience of nature throughout your film making is always second to none and its a priviledge to watch what you share for us on this platform. That definitely looked like some hard work to get to that river via foot as Hans was eluding to during the intro but looking at the serenity that unfolded it would have been worth every second and you had the best seat in the house. The cherry was added on top with your tank of a fish to finish on 🤙
Very humbled by your kind words and continued support. I love the craft and make what I'd like to see and hope others do too. That simple. Keep on doing your thing too buddy!
Nobody puts together such evocative fly fishing videos as you Mike. This is a stunning insight into the North Island backcountry. Thanks to Cory, Hans and yourself for sharing this adventure. It blew my mind. Epic stuff. Hats off to you for the time it would have taken to craft a video as polished as this.
Thanks so much! It's an amazing part of the world and great to have been a part of. Cheers mate,
Hi Mike the movie was an excellent to watch it was nice to see Han's learning the art of Nymphing with Cory who is a fish catching machine, well done,
Charlie. G.
Thanks mate and I had the best seat in the house!
Wow! Superb in every respect...
Thanks!
Superb just superb. Three mates fly fishing in a special place and beautifully captured and produced by you Mike.
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the support and kind thoughts
What a treat it was to watch this very special production from your camera and mixing room, Mike. Enchanting scenery that sends that spiritual vibe right at you through the screen. Two of the best fly fishers in their game catching big fish with technique adapted to the water. Me and my three fishing buddies sat glued to the screen barely saying a word for the full hour..
Simply brilliant stuff, all three of you!
Thanks so much for your awesome comment. It heartens me to picture guys like yourselves captivated by a UA-cam clip. Speaks volumes of the better (and less known) positive side of Social media. You've put a smile firmly on my dial. I have a film festival offering in the pipeline so watch this space 😬
This is next level stuff guys. Amazing scenery and amazing fishing.
Thanks buddy. Pretty cool spot indeed.
Great video guys. The first time I took my mate Bolty in was exactly the same. We paused on the escarpment and I said 'people would pay good money for just a view like that - let alone the fact that we are going to catch a heap of fish.
I never tire of that place and look forward to my next trip there in summer. Camped in both camps you filmed - ususlly the bottom one.
My profile pic was taken in the water where you had your euphoric half hour.
Yeah as they say 'if you know you know'
My favourite river. A deeply spiritual place that I take a yearly pilgrimage to. Devastating to see the damage wrought by Cyclone Gabrielle on this beautiful spot - but equally amazed at the ability of this river to rebound. Beautiful videography that honours this place. Ngā mihi nui.
Thanks buddy and it was special to spend some time in your backyard. I felt the power and beauty in every direction I looked.
It’s a whole new river to learn .. appreciate your love for the place
Such a great video. Never made it that far as I've only ever been up that valley on my own and possibly a bit risky for a first time solo trip. So great to see this water in detail after reading enough about it! Maybe time for me to engage a guide...
You won't get better than Cory as your guide @@andrewhoward4207
Another great vid
We will be spending 6 months chasing NZ trouts .. can't wait
It's hard to stay away for sure!
Magnificent lads! Always a class production!
Thanks Andrew! We must catch again before we're both to old! 😂
Mike, congratulations on this extraordinary movie. What pictures with the two fantastic fly fishermen Hans and Cory. Master class in perfection. And the landscape, doping for the eyes!
In January 2023 I had the good fortune and pleasure of being able to fly fish with Hans on the West Coast for three days with my son. They were unforgettable days for us and all the impressions from back then come back to mind with photos like these. A big thank you for this film and warm greetings from the two Swiss, who would have preferred to fly fish again in New Zealand yesterday rather than tomorrow. And please pass the greetings on to your wife. Maybe she still remembers us......
Hi mate! Hans and Nans says hi. Thanks for your support and glad you liked the film
What a trip! Glorious location and really well filmed and edited. The boys are so smooth in the way they fish - it is a masterclass
Thanks so much Nick for such high praise coming from the guy I have always looked up to and taken inspiration from. Humbled buddy
Mike I really look forward to your stuff and this is exactly why! Beautifully filmed and just a great story to watch! Next best thing to being on the water!! Thanks again and thanks to your great actors for their performance😁
I'm glad you continue to follow my little journeys and that they hit the right note for you. Thanks again
Perfect as always, keep ‘‘em coming
@@Abcd12342600 haha yeah I'll hire a film crew and support team! 😂 I have a project in the pipeline for a short film festival movie this coming season...
Great production, great content, great narration, simply the best Mike. Thank you and the boys.
Thanks so much for the humbling words
what a river ... once again a great production of what I believe are 3 of the best trout fly fisherman at the top of their game in NZ. thx for sharing.
High praise indeed! Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment.
Top class again Mike
Thanks Scott!
This was absolutely stunning in every way…with out question the best fly fishing video ever made

@@jeffgc5886yeah she's a cool place alright. Worth a look
Merveilleux
Thanks!
I have stated this many times. Mike, you put out the best fishing videos I have every witnessed. Your narration voice, music and video editing is first class. Thank you from the USA.
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to say such kind things. Humbled.
Wonderful stuff guys, thank you👍
Thanks!
That is just absolute top shelf. Pure Gold.
Just love the banter, and dead spot on about the different techniques and their place in the kit bag!
Thanks so much for putting it together Mike…a huge investment of your time.
Yep indeed, It's great to have such a meaningful insight into some of the more technical aspects and approaches for sure.
Wow! You bless the doors off yet again with amazing story telling and filming along with breathtaking vistas and fish. As usual Mike you topped it off with the biggest Bow haha. Thanks for taking us alongon the amazing journey.
*Blew the doors off lol
Wow, thank you so much. Very humbling to read comments like this and thanks for the support!
Great ...!!!!👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🖤🖤🖤greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭🇨🇭🇨🇭🇨🇭🙋🏻♂️
Cheers!
Great stuff mike and the boys , looks like a great time thanks for sharing
Cheers buddy
No doubt among the hardest fighting fish around, I haven't gone to the falls or beyond but well worth the journey for the gorge and mid section waters a long way though to drive and find dirty water. Thanks for the video very impressive.
Cheers, yeah it's a case of taking a chance and hoping to get out what you put in.
I'm so looking forward to enjoying this tonight!
Hope you enjoy it!
Hans is really really good at wading!
Hey guys.
Watching from the Kootenay region of British Columbia,Canada.
Have been fishing the Columbia river here for trout...on the fly..
Of course.
Walleye are hitting well I hear..
But I gotta tell you guys something ..
I have fished this areas rivers and creeks, and over a good part of British Columbia, but I have never seen ANYTHING to compare with New Zealand..
You guys know how blessed you are. ....
Not a question ....it was a statement...lol.
Love the video .....again another brilliant piece of work.
When we get there, i am looking you up...
My wife, a Kiwi by birth, has even mentioned that she is figuring that she's going to have to share a lot of my time with the waters there...
I'm going to have a whole new world to explore ...
I guess you hate your job eh?
Must be AWFUL to have to travel around Paradise fishing...
Keep up the fantastic work...
Thanks again...
Fans in Canada...
Natalie and Joe...
Man, such a cool comment. Make sure you indeed look me up if you come here. I book up a fair way in advance so get in as early as you can. Humbled.
@@mikefsher Hey!
Thanks so much for the reply...
Proof positive that you read your comments...
Plans are to move there...wife wants to move back home AND she wants to take my sorry arse with her....
Who am I to argue with THAT!
I have been trying to get there since the 80s.
Missed a chance to live on a sail boat for 2 years getting there, and regretted it since...
I met a 19 year old Kiwi girl in a coffeeshop in my hometown....who became my friend....then she became my stepdaughter...
Her mom came to visit her and wound married to me.
You Kiwi's are a special breed of people, as I have been lucky enough to discover....(fortune smiled on me)....through meeting other folks from there...
You can bet on the fact that I AM going to look you up...we'll enjoy a cuppa...as I've learned to call them.
My stepdaughter is into hunting and fishing.....in Australia, where she lives, and has her own business...lives in Jindy.
That young lady brought me to the best part of my life, 10 years ago, and I have not looked back since..
See you when we get there...
Nice vid. That's an incredible number of fish! Outstanding! Bring on northern latitude guiding 👍🏼 I feel like you can get those pack weights down though guys 30kg makes it sound like you had a trophy stag on board maybe you could take dehy next time save the sausages for when you get home 😜 you'd have room for a packraft then 👌🏽 and still be under 20kg 🏞️ awesome stuff thx for sharing
Haha yeah - I think you may not have allowed for the stupid amount of camera bodies, lenses, batteries, etc etc. Then food, camping gear and loads of fishing gear. Do it tough then enjoy the comforts type of thing...
@@mikefsher totally worth it by the looks 💯 those were some solid fish too
Wow! Can't believe production of this quality is available for all to see on UA-cam. Thanks team👍
Cheers man glad you liked it@@leakingwader
Great to see you back mateee
Thanks!
beautifull film magnifique
Thank you!
The unfortunate truth in the Western US is warming rivers means that after peak runoff fish are holding deep, what's left of them anyway. Oregon's Deschutes River is now a shadow of it's former self and anytime after early June you are pretty much left with split shot or heavy nymphs. That makes this master class right on point.
Glad to be of service, and thanks for taking the time to watch and comment
Great video! Did you guys camp or are there huts?
Thanks
Cheers. No Huts and we tent camped yes
Wow! Daamn i wish i able to go on a trip like that. Concider urselves lucky af! I mean...u have (stocked)in the park and to gone rainbow-fishing...and then u have rainbow-fishing! One less likely to take ur kids/nephews, neices, w/e to than the other.
I just was in a stream fishing brooktrout earlier today. And they're said to be from this native stock/family of primeval trout, said to sharing the same DNA (or some - dont qoute me on that) world wide (these are from the Lower-mid section parts of Sweden, in an closed system of small rivers and streams (rip this once such lovely contry tho. lel:). Pretty sure they are some cousins or something to these humongous, x10-sized relatives O.o Simply amazing world this is! Im scare of the "ruling elite" tho, maybe soon be making this to be "reclamation land", along with rest of 95% of the "official" (aka stolen) land known to the lost voters... And smart cities living zones.. welp.
Yeah the world Is an increasingly tough place to fish a diminishing resource...
Bistro 🍻
Cheers
😮 😂
I noticed that both Corey and Hans put very little pressure on their fish.
perhaps they should try lifting 500 BMS of butter with their fly rods. They would then see that they are too gentle on their fish.
They are both amazing anglers, and I've fished with some of the best. Cory is an 11 times national champ and been to 6 world Champs so he knows how much pressure to apply and angles to use. Cheers for watching.
