I got the 12.9” to use as a laptop replacement back before Apple Silicon was a thing, when MacBooks had inferior battery life and the MacBooks’ lack of cellular was a much bigger deal. Fast forward to now and I still haven’t upgraded my 12.9” because its software is still so limited, but I HAVE gotten the new iPad mini and I absolutely adore it. It feels to me like the 11” seems to feel to you, except the iPad mini fits in hoodie pockets and is just narrow enough for thumb typing like it’s a big phone. I bring it everywhere because of how useful it is to have a second screen to supplement my iPhone, especially since even the iPad mini has about double the screen surface area of the iPhone 12/13 Pro Max. I even have a CD slot mount in my car for the iPad mini, and while I’m driving I splitscreen Waze and Music to turn the iPad mini into a car infotainment system!
Why I upgraded to the iPad 11 when it first came out, for the portability of it at the 11 inch, and still going strong today… If i wanted the 12 inch I have my MacBook Pro 13 with Touch Bar just before they came out with the M1 chip hahaha…
Story time: In 2015 when the original 12.9 iPad Pro came out I decided to try to make it my main computer. It worked, even with the iPadOS limitations at the time. I have continued with my insistence that the iPad can be a laptop replacement - and it has more than succeeded expectations. I bought the M1 MacBook Air last year and I struggle to find uses for it. It’s much better for zoom calls, but when it comes down to it, I have 2 iPad Pros with magic keyboards on each, the 2020 11” and the 2021 M1 12.9 - These are phenomenal computers and I don’t see myself ever purchasing a traditional computer ever again. That said, ever since I bought the M1 iPad 13” - I have a hard time using my 11” - it is so much more compact though. I may try traveling with it as my main computer on my next trip just to see, but the miniLED display is too pretty to leave at home for a week. I don’t know. But I have opinions.
PS, I’m retired and I’m not a creator. I run my life through email and use my devices for social media and consumption. I’m not compressing 8K videos and I never plan on it. I’m basic AF.
I’m so glad I found your comment. I want to get the 11” to use like a laptop. I have a Lenovo yoga but I barely use it since I graduated university. Most of the reviews saying you can’t replace a laptop with an iPad are from the perspective of content creators, and they have more use for a laptop or PC.
I have paired the 12.9 iPad Pro with the iPad mini 6 and it's just ideal for me. I did use the 11" but I find the mini to be more portable and easier for me to use when I don't need the larger display.
My 11’ ipad pro 2021 has been my favorite device I have ever had tbh, i ended up getting the cellular 256 go model since it’s a laptop replacement for me, as i have always been used to 11 inch laptops, and when I did have a 13 inch laptop, I didn’t really enjoy it, so I went for the 11 inch, whilst also having the magic keyboard 11’ from my old air 4th gen. I just wish Ipados was more open-sourced so we could access more MacOS apps, even if we didn’t get Pro Apps.
Just got mine in the mail today. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxhcEDB3r-OJ3_X5hQzr7k1ZofTQy1ao_U The corners of the box was a little smashed but I think that’s more of the shipping’s fault. iPad was in perfect condition though. I ordered the yellow one thinking it was going to be a bright vibrant color. Instead I looks like more of a Gold color. I personally prefer the gold look. Definitely not disappointed but just a heads up to the ones expecting a brighter cream of yellow.
I just got mine recently and I am so in love. I thank you for the recommendation. When I saw both the 12.9 inch and the 11 inch, I knew that I had to get the 11 inch. I am 4’11 and the 12.9 was way too heavy and small for my hands. I’ve been touching my iPad everyday and it’s so portable that I take it everywhere with me!
I just have to comment on all the bad ass retro Macs! I saw a G4 cube, iMac G4 and G3, one of the graphite G4s. Not many people appreciate those old machines!
I agree the 11 inch works well. I was going back and forth between the mini and the 11 inch. I settled on the 11 inch, I realized in the long run the mini would eventually be to small.
Finally a review that emphasizes the size difference and shows how they fit into bags, on tables, in hand on the couch, etc. You have my like and sub. Funny enough, first I thought this was a review of the latest 2024 iPads, but theres basically no difference in size tho the new ones are a lot lighter and thinner.
I sold my 11" iPad Pro + magic keyboard for the iPad mini 6 and I absolutely did not regret the decision. I use the iPad for gaming and media consumption. Bought the 11" because I thought it could entirely replace my laptop but it couldn't so I stick with working on the M1 MacBook Air. The iPad mini 6 is just a fun little device that fits in my handbag and I can bring anywhere. That being said, I do miss ProMotion and the extra RAM on the Pro
Agreed I think that’s the perfect setup. I bought the iPad Pro 11 2018 with the magic keyboard but unfortunately the lack of pro apps keep it from replacing my laptop. I bought the iPad mini to use as a tablet and my Intel MacBook Pro 16 for serious work. I’ve considered selling the iPad Pro + keyboard and my MacBook Pro for an M1 MacBook Air.

I was thinking on getting the iPad 12.9´´and sell my Air and my M1, but this video made me think otherwise.
Thank you for your video and insights. I wasn't hesitant about the 11" version until I replaced my 13" MBA with a Mac Mini, then I became worried if the smaller screen size would bother me. After purchasing a keyboard and using it for a few days, the size and portability are perfect for my needs, especially since I am returning to grad school in several days. Again, thanks for a great video.
I am a systems auditor and used to travel all over the world. Hopefully, if omicron turns out to be a damp squib (which makes perfect evolutionary sense), I will be doing so again in the near future. I will be taking my work laptop with me when I do, but I am not supposed to use it for my own purposes. I used to use a Surface Pro, but I managed to bust the screen when I dropped it. So I replaced it with an M1 iPad Pro. I didn't have to think too long before I chose the 11" version. With the iPad, Magic KB, pencil, slim SSD, 20,000mAh power bank, MS Arc Touch Mouse and a fold-up Twick PD power supply, and a couple of leads, I can maintain my kit and keep it charged wherever I go (in my work laptop wheelie case is a universal plug adaptor), and it all fits in a snug, form fitting bag that will easily sit under an airliner seat.
i think if the 11" was less heavy i'd be down for it. as it stands, the ipad mini is the right size and weight for me, though i'd also be kind of curious about a 12.9 for home use. the fact that the 12.9 is heavier than a macbook air if you add the keyboard is a no-go for me though
i really wanted a mini as it’s portability i find so perfect for fitting in small bags but ultimately i got the 11” as i thought the mini would be too small for split screen etc. i love the 11” but i feel like i’m missing out on some portability to the point where i can’t even imagine using a 12.9 ipad pro unless it’s on my desk
I’m getting mine delivered on Monday. I can’t wait. I would have waited until next year but my battery tanked on my iPad Air3rd generation after almost 5 years. Thanks for this great video. I think it’s the perfect size for me. Boy do you guys have a ton of equipment! 😊
Everything you said here is spot on! I’ve had the 2020 11” for a month now and the only time it feels small is when I put it directly next to the bigger iPad, or next to a desktop monitor. I’m normally a bigger is better type of person, but the 11” is the perfect size for a lot of people I think, it can pull double duty as a laptop and tablet fantastically. It’s also way easier to type on the 11” - if you go for the 12.9”, a keyboard case is almost a necessity because you can’t thumb type the same way you can with the 11” or a normal phone, the screen is just too big. If you already have a laptop or desktop computer, go for the 11”, if the iPad is going to be your primary device and do everything, the 12.9” would probably be better imo. Just try and be sure the extra screen size is going to be worth it for you over the money you’d save going for the 11”. The price difference could cop you a pair of AirPods or an Apple Pencil or something, which is something to think about. Great video Noah 👍
Absolutely. You can only use the gen 1 pencil, but on a budget, it can do everything the Pro line can. You literally only lose on quality of life improvements (ie. promotion, Lidar, 2nd gen pencil, faceid, more storage). If you just need the tool to do the thing you need it to do, base iPad is more than enough (it’s powered by the iPhone 11 Pro chip).
@@pokepackschill4985 thanks. And do you think the base 64gb is enough or should I go for the 256gb? Keep in my mind I probably won't record videos or take photos on the iPad or is 64gb still not enough?

You guys have a tech dream apartment. Nice video! I’m downsizing from the 12.9 to the 11 for all the reasons you mentioned. I just wish I didn’t have to sacrifice the mini LED XDR to do so. But the pro motion 120 hz helps a lot with mitigating that.
i’ve been using imacs and consoles since i was 4…. when 2010 struck, tablets popped outta nowhere and i really loved it… i’ve used samsung galaxies and i’ve used apple ipads… now i’m stuck with that smaller pro and it’s almost everything i’ve ever needed… see, i’ve done everything using tablets that size, like video editing, taking videos (on a tablet), drawing, web searching, playing music, making music, reading, watching, photo editing, typing, texting, calling, gaming, social media, homework, essays, testing… yeah, i make full use of tablets… in my junior year of college doing nursing, this M1 ipad (along with its m. keyboard + apple pencil + AP max + charger + pen and pencil) is all i carry in my bag around campus… but i’ve never owned a laptop… i was so satisfied with only using a tablet for everything that i never thought about owning a tablet… if i had a laptop, i would most likely be different about usability and size
Enjoyed it Noah, You have “ Rubber-stamped” it for me the reason Why I bought the new 11’ iPad Pro this year. Portability, accessibility, easy to use, quality performance in a smaller machine and last but not least the price compared to the 12.9’. I have a desktop as well and this is great to use alongside it, as you demonstrated it takes up minimal room but seems great with Eye Co-ordination and efficiency. Great video once again and hope you convince many out there who are on the fence about buying the 11’ over the 12.9’. Especially if they have a laptop or desktop. Thanks again.
My main device has been the M2 iPad Pro M2. Switch from a 2016 MacBook pro 15 inch. Greatest switch I’ve done as far as device upgrades. Recently I’ve been thinking about getting the 11 inch iPad Pro to start taking to work with me instead of the 12.9. This video helped me decide to actually get it. Can you link the wallpaper you’re using..
Whenever I use the 11 inch now it just feels small so 12.9 feels like the proper sized iPad for me. The only drawback is when I’m taking it anywhere and it’s in a bag…. Kinda worries me. I’d get a Mini 5 just for having a nice iPad on the go that’s not too big and is even smaller than the 11. I actually feel the same about the iPhone lineup now where I’d rather have a 6.7 inch display or the 5.4
The reason I wanted the 11 inch is because it is more of a tablet size rather than the 12.9. I opted for the Macbook Pro rather than buying the 12.9 inch.
I still have and use my 2018 11 inch pro with the Folio keyboard. I thought about getting the Magic keyboard or even the Logitech combo but 11 pro works fine and I can keep the keyboard attached to the case and use the iPad in the flat position which you can not do with the Magic keyboard. The only negative to the Folio is the fabric covering on the keys started showing a lot of wear and tare so much so I actually removed the covering. I thought the keyboard would loose some usefulness but so far since it’s removal I have not had any problems typing with it no longer there. I would like to have better quality speakers so I could see myself getting a 20022 iPad pro 11 inch if the sound is dramatically improved.
I have the 12 at first it takes some getting use to, but once you do is great. I feel that I tend to be more productive because of that extra screen realstate that it provides, and as a student I always have 2 screen open to take notes, But definitely both great are great devices
Just bought an iPad Pro M1 256GB with the Magic Keyboard and Pencil for 820 USD. Found it on Facebook Marketplace and the guy only used it for around 3 days because the limited warranty expires on Nov 25th 2022. Literally got an insane deal
I'm using the 10.5 inch ipad pro and their are a few reasons why i want to get a 12.9 inch instead of the 11 when i have to upgrade. 1.)Screen Size,I've been using the 10 inch sizes for like 3 years now and want it to be bigger so i want the 12.9 inch for that 2.)Multitasking,i do that on my current ipad and want a bigger canvas. 3.)I plan to use it more as a content consumption device and drawing pad as well as my primary school device where i plan to use the logitech foilo instead of the magic keyboard and i think for the limited times i need to type on my ipad, the foilo will do better anways because its not like i need to use it on non flat surfaces 4.)I own an macbook that i use for typing and even thought i won't get a 16 laptop,i want two types of laptops on a daily basis 5.)The speaker and apple pencil 2 are better and I've been testing my dads 12.9 inch iPad Pro. Also ignore my spelling.

On another note the gimbals moves are very fluid , is that follow or fpv mode ? I love the 12.9 iPad Pro but I literally only use it for sidecar and Netflix. Bit too big esp with the laptop
Great video, I've been really torn in deciding which size ipad to get. I thought the 11 would be sufficient but thanks to your boyfriend's input, I think it's just best to get the 12.9 as I'd be using it for drawing/Procreate etc. I guess I'm a size queen after all! Thanks and p.s. you guys are adorable!
I'm probably the only one that laughed at this... but as soon as the caption at the bottom that says "yes I'm gay" popped up on screen, I then noticed the title of the first chapter of this video
Personally, I really only appreciated 11'' portability when it's in my bag. The minute I take it out I just wish I had a 12.9 inch. So I got one and the experience is great for me! I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of space in my bag if it means I can be a tad more productive.
As a fellow 2010 iPad owner, I'd love to see a review or love (or hate) letter video with your thoughts. Recently jailbroke mine just to revive the OG UA-cam app... which didn't really work as well as I hoped.

Hii like how its software is limited , like we can not download movies from google etc?
I ended up selling my 12.9 M1. I bought it for the screen, but the size ended up being its downfall.
Nice yea got the 11 around the kids 12.9 seemed dangerous

Yea, and also support for keyboards is always a massive reason to go for standard-sized iPads
Watching this on my 11” M1 pro. By far my favourite iPad I’ve ever owned
I use it like a laptop and as my main machine, so I prefer the bigger one. I carry everything in a backpack so the weight doesn’t matter to me.
Hahahahah ´´Yes im gay´´. That was great. Have a good day and thank you for all this content. I own an iPad Air 4, a Mini 6 and a MacBook Pro M1; I wanted to sell my Macbook for the new iPad 12.9, but after this video, im keeping my setup as it is. Cheers from Colombia.
Care to share why do you have so many iPads?
@@dennvenger Yeah, no problem. The thing is that I had the air 4 before the M1, but I really really use it all day long since day one. The Air is just a perfect device, when I’m home i just say goodbye to my iPhone, and all the media content that i watch, i watch it on the mini, its perfect for that. I was thinking on getting the iPad 12.9´´and sell my Air and my M1, but this video made me think otherwise.
I’m a 11 inch user and I loved it
What is that wallpaper?? I need it for my 11” iPad Pro
Again, thanks for a great video.
the wallpaper so aesthetic 💕
💯 on the 11” - i use this size WAY more than I did my 12.9”. Could barely use the latter as a tablet.
i think if the 11" was less heavy i'd be down for it. as it stands, the ipad mini is the right size and weight for me, though i'd also be kind of curious about a 12.9 for home use. the fact that the 12.9 is heavier than a macbook air if you add the keyboard is a no-go for me though
i really wanted a mini as it’s portability i find so perfect for fitting in small bags but ultimately i got the 11” as i thought the mini would be too small for split screen etc. i love the 11” but i feel like i’m missing out on some portability to the point where i can’t even imagine using a 12.9 ipad pro unless it’s on my desk
@@kataxx2655 the 11 inch is very portable
I’m getting mine delivered on Monday. I can’t wait. I would have waited until next year but my battery tanked on my iPad Air3rd generation after almost 5 years. Thanks for this great video. I think it’s the perfect size for me. Boy do you guys have a ton of equipment! 😊
As a 12.9" owner, I do wish I had gotten the 11".
Bro, your videos are so genuine and real. I love them! Thanks for making content!
Do you guys think that the base iPad with Apple pen is good for students? Like for note taking, drawing, gaming and watching a videos, etc?
@@ia285 are you using icloud storage? 64gb is enough for anyone with icloud (as photos and files synch) unless you start downloading tv/shows on it, then that can fill it up quick
@@pokepackschill4985 yh I believe I have iCloud enabled. I'm just wondering if drawing will take up a lot of storage.
And as for watching shows, will probably just stream, or at max, download an episode or two and then delete them after viewing.
@@ia285 i use the ipad air 4 64gb one for school and streaming shows, and it's absolutely perfect for me, storage won't be a problem at all
Love you Noah hope you feel better
I am thank you ❤️❤️
I have to admit that I find myself on a train for 3h+ for too many times a year to not enjoy the extra space on 12.9 inch
“It’s definitely a tiny boi, and if you’re into that.. Great!” love the video man
Wow! Your place looks so confortable.
I’m so happy apple is adding mini led to the iPad Pro 11 inch i can’t wait to get it
I love my 11, but have been interested in a 12.9, as I always carry a backpack…
i’ve been using imacs and consoles since i was 4…. when 2010 struck, tablets popped outta nowhere and i really loved it… i’ve used samsung galaxies and i’ve used apple ipads… now i’m stuck with that smaller pro and it’s almost everything i’ve ever needed…
see, i’ve done everything using tablets that size, like video editing, taking videos (on a tablet), drawing, web searching, playing music, making music, reading, watching, photo editing, typing, texting, calling, gaming, social media, homework, essays, testing… yeah, i make full use of tablets…
in my junior year of college doing nursing, this M1 ipad (along with its m. keyboard + apple pencil + AP max + charger + pen and pencil) is all i carry in my bag around campus…
but i’ve never owned a laptop… i was so satisfied with only using a tablet for everything that i never thought about owning a tablet… if i had a laptop, i would most likely be different about usability and size
The 11" called your name and I'm not even mad. It's great you're getting more use from it than from its big brother
Enjoyed it Noah,
You have “ Rubber-stamped” it for me the reason Why I bought the new 11’ iPad Pro this year.
I actually feel the same about the iPhone lineup now where I’d rather have a 6.7 inch display or the 5.4
This guy just showed off his whole macbook collection in a video
Me coming across this video randomly 1 year after its been uploaded.
First thought: That screensaver hard🔥 😂
I finally got my magic keyboard for my 12.9
Mine rocks!!!!! Just got my 11” Pro and Magic Keyboard and it is awesome
I have been considering on picking up an 11in and getting rid of my 12.9 for a while now. I just love the 1 handed use of the 11in.
I NEED that wallpaper background for my iPad….
Me too!!!
While the 12.9 is lovely, I much prefer the 11 just for how much more comfortable I find it when actually holding & using it as an iPad.
Watching it on my iPad pro 11 2018
The reason I wanted the 11 inch is because it is more of a tablet size rather than the 12.9. I opted for the Macbook Pro rather than buying the 12.9 inch.
Bro where can i get this nice Wallpaper from your iPad?
Thos hand gestures. It’s like I’m watching aess energetic ChrisFix, but talking about iPads instead of cars 😅
That thumbnail is super creative 😅
Where can I find a picture of that wallpaper on ur 11 inch iPad. That purple looks so good
I can’t emphasize enough how help this was! Thank you!!
Watching on iPad Pro 11in and love it
I'm using the 10.5 inch ipad pro and their are a few reasons why i want to get a 12.9 inch instead of the 11 when i have to upgrade.
1.)Screen Size,I've been using the 10 inch sizes for like 3 years now and want it to be bigger so i want the 12.9 inch for that
2.)Multitasking,i do that on my current ipad and want a bigger canvas.
3.)I plan to use it more as a content consumption device and drawing pad as well as my primary school device where i plan to use the logitech foilo instead of the magic keyboard and i think for the limited times i need to type on my ipad, the foilo will do better anways because its not like i need to use it on non flat surfaces
4.)I own an macbook that i use for typing and even thought i won't get a 16 laptop,i want two types of laptops on a daily basis
5.)The speaker and apple pencil 2 are better and I've been testing my dads 12.9 inch iPad Pro.
Also ignore my spelling.
Bro I love your videos and a lot of that has to do with your personality. You sound so down to earth and funny and relatable and your presentation style sounds so cozy and easy going. Great vids 👍🏼

Great video, I've been really torn in deciding which size ipad to get. I thought the 11 would be sufficient but thanks to your boyfriend's input, I think it's just best to get the 12.9 as I'd be using it for drawing/Procreate etc. I guess I'm a size queen after all! Personally, I really only appreciated 11'' portability when it's in my bag. The minute I take it out I just wish I had a 12.9 inch. So I got one and the experience is great for me! I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of space in my bag if it means I can be a tad more productive.
Yay for 12.9!
As a fellow 2010 iPad owner, I'd love to see a review or love (or hate) letter video with your thoughts. Recently jailbroke mine just to revive the OG UA-cam app... which didn't really work as well as I hoped.
