Rapunzel's hair is so important to her image that the series made a whole plot arc around "Rapunzel suddenly got her long blonde hair back and it's not going away."

She gets her hair back, yes, but she doesn't have the healing powers anymore...and its **spoilers** gets cut at the end of the series so yes she does get her hair back, but it may have started as a Disney money-grabbing scheme, but the show it self is smart and fun.

I love the juxtaposition of the leap that Elsa and Anna make during their songs, Elsa making a humongous leap without a second thought because she knows her magic will help her succeed, and Anna making a much smaller leap but with so much more courage and desperate faith in the moment. Then ironically, it is Anna that ends up saving Elsa without any magic at all.

Something I noticed when they were both doing their leaps was Elsa was leaping down and Anna was leaping up. This could have something to do with their mental states at the time. Elsa was physically descending as she was grounding herself in her realization that she was where she needed to be, and Anna was ascending as she was stabilizing herself to climb out of her depressive state and keep moving forward.

People mentioning Kida and Ariel are kind of missing the point. Neither is being marketed as 'Queen' by Disney. Ariel is implied as queen in a straight to DVD sequel, and her daughter is never mentioned as 'Disney princess', and Kida is completely ignored. Anna is the first princess officially recognised as grown up and changed and marketed as such.

Even while watching Frozen one I always thought that Anna would make a better Queen. She's more maternal and a stronger leader than Elsa. Also, in a deleted scene where we see a memory of their parents discussing telling Anna about Elsa's powers, the father straight-up says that he does not worry about Anna. The scene heavily implies that they had a high opinion of Anna and her resilience as well , despite having to focus their attention on Elsa. I'm disabled and this almost seems like a metaphor for the siblings of disabled children, as Elsa's power was treated more as a disability for a long time.

Great breakdown! One quick fact I would like to point out, though: Elsa is not the first animated disney princess to become queen! Princess Kida of Atlantis became queen in Atlantis: The Lost Empire! She became queen after her father passed at the end of the movie. :). I understand that she probably doesn't count, though, as she is not an "official disney princess" (which I feel is quite a missed opportunity, as she is an awesome character). This is due mostly to Atlantis being one of Disney's dark age films, and thus not performing well at the time, and not being as well-known today.
If you are not familiar with Atlantis, I highly suggest it! It was one of my favorites growing up, and still is to this day!

  • @BuizelCream

All this talk of Anna being the best model for resilience makes me happy that Anna didn't go through a story arc where she became resentful that she's just a spare to Elsa (as suggested in the deleted scenes all the way back in Frozen 1). Throughout canon, she always shows that she accepts the kind of life she got, and by being resilient builds ways to overcome the cons it brings. Because of her resilience, she gets to focus on showing love to her sister and her community and to herself.

Honestly, making movies about sibling rivalry feels kinda boring to me. There's just so much content on sibling rivalry out there, I love it when a movie nails siblings being able to have a good relationship despite having their shortcomings here and there. I'm so glad they didn't make Anna resentful of Elsa. It would've been just another movie that made me mad at the writers and it wouldn't have me half as invested as I was after watching the first movie on theaters.

If Frozen was about the importance of being together, Frozen II is about something you don't hear praised as often: the importance of being apart. Elsa loves Anna, but she's happier among nature and among their mother's people than she is ruling, and that's okay. Anna learns that she doesn't have to always rely on Elsa. Kristen Bell has rightly said Anna's story in Frozen II is about overcoming co-dependence. By the end, she's become her own person: the queen of her country. The sisters will always love each other, but that doesn't mean they have to be together all the time.

This is bullshit in a million different ways. I absolutely loathe this tendency to call anyone who wants to be near their loved one co-dependent. • @hollynotholy
      @hollynotholy 2 роки тому +6

I wouldn't say Anna is co-dependent, but it is definitely good for her to learn to be her own self without having Elsa as parameter or a condition to her being. I think their separation in the first movie was quite traumatic, unexplained and left Anna feeling lonely and cut apart from Elsa. She went after her sister because she wanted to share her pain, her joy, make her feel seen and loved, just the way Anna herself craved.
Their separation in Frozen II is healthier. They reconciled, they're closer, they've learned to share time and space and companionship, but now they can also learn what it's like to be themselves without worrying this separation will get them back to square one: both feeling lonely, unheard and unseen.
I'm a sucker for the Frozen franchise because both me and my middle sister are just 2 years apart, we're from the same father and, despite fighting a lot as kids, we became best friends through the years. She's now studying in another country and we'll probably spend months if not years without seeing each other face to face, doing different stuff, meeting different people, and overall growing without being so close together as to see changes happening and maturity coming along.
It's honestly a bit heartbreaking to know I won't be there to see stuff happening and changing, nor will I be able to help her much, but it's good because I can go on with my life without really worrying anymore if we'll keep being close to each other. I know we will; physical distance and having two different lives didn't get in the way of us being able to rely on each other and trusting each other.
I've just basically lived through the 2 Frozen movies and it feels so fucking relatable whenever I watch them. 😂 watching Elsa's and Anna's videos is making me miss her so damn much and I just talked to her some hours ago, man. Media about siblings always get some emotional reactions from me, that's for sure.

Thanks for doing this one as well! I love Anna. She is so strong. In a way she is much stronger than Elsa. Elsa has magic but Ice is fragile. Anna has no magic but her will, determination and love can move mountains. She will never give up and even when hope is gone she will find it again. She is a fighter. Sometimes you can only do what is right in frong of you, put out the biggest fire just as her song suggests. She is really amazing. Elsa is literally a spirit and ice at that. She is free and ethereal, being queen never suited her. She was introverted and the royal garments first constricted her and then that red/pink/purple dress made her look really pale. Anna was awkward at first and looking for change. She was also very reliant on others. When she started to rely on herself and try to change things herself she suddenly developed charisma that comes from loving people, being extroverted and most importantly being confident and willing to do the work yourself. Wanting to do the work. She became a leader. Neither the crown nor the dark clothes constrict her because in her burns a fire that shines through visible to all.
One of my closest friends really relates to Elsa, her social anxiety/awkwardness (don't wanna misdiagnose anyone, even a fictional character) and how introverted she is. Her self discovery. I can relate to Anna so much more. She grew up in a private family. Very introverted whereas she is very extroverted, impulsive, adhd with no one to teach her how to "fit in" while still remaining who she is. When she is alone and lost she does not give up, no matter how dark it is. Because to give up means accepting the end and we're not there yet, we've barely started. Elsa goes on to live a more solitary life whereas Anna lives her life in constant connection to others. With an open ear for her people and willing to serve her country as best she can. I'm not a princess or a queen but I want to work with people, be there for them in their hardships. Because pain has made me stronger and my heart is big enough for a lot of people. My family... it's not for them. I've often felt lonely around them, not because they didn't love me but because they didn't show it the way I really needed them to. But it's ok. I can be strong and go on. And when it's hard, I'll just focus on the next step. The next right thing.
Thank you Anna for finally being that character I can relate to. Finally, at 24 I can see myself in someone else. It feels nice to "know" someone else like me.

I always identified with Anna since the first frozen that came out when I was a teenager, with the hopeful naivety, stubborn persistence. I was too stubborn to let myself feel how much I was hurting, and seeing how Anna let herself hurt after Hans helped me as well, the only difference is I never got past the hurt. It would hurt and I would shove it back in the bottle until it bursts. “Do the next right thing” is very important to me, but it’s two sides of my mind at war. One says the next right thing is to prevent my family from dealing with my burden, and the other side says the next right thing is to keep pursuing help. It’s just hard.

But I can see the connection to Anna's resilience and how a person can resolve to build themselves up by doing the little things that matter. I might share this with my classmates if it comes up because it seems like it might have a lot to do with building your resilience.

As much as I love singing along with Elsa's songs in Frozen 2, Do the Next Right Thing is so special and important to me I can never get through it without choking up. I've dealt with anxiety all my life and it really came to a head for me a few years ago when I started college, I entered a really deep state of depression my second semester and while I was able to move past it and am in a much better place now I still struggle with those emotions at times. Watching this song in theaters I full on bawled in my seat because of how connected I felt to Anna in that time, everything about that scene felt like it was written specifically with my previous struggles in mind and seeing her overcome was another really strong reminder to me that I can too. I literally started crying again writing this, that's how important that experience was for me. One of the many reasons I hold Frozen 2 in such high regard.

Little thing I noticed, in All Is Found they sing about how Ahtohallan is a river made of memories. The grandfather of Anna and Elsa built a dam that stopped the waterflow of a river, and attacked the Northuldra, but nobody in Arendale remembered it. The dam symbolised the blockage of memory, and when Anna and Elsa connected the Northuldra side and the Arendale side they found out they are the bridge. A bridge lets through water unlike a dam, so the river of memory could flow, and they reminded everyone of what really happened.

Since the first movie I felt as if Anna was the equivalent to Sam from Lord of the Rings. Elsa is in the spotlight with her powers but Anna is the one who has the emotional strength to follow her and in the end has a big part in teaching her how to control her powers through her supportive and loving nature. You put it beautifully that it's Anna we can relate to and that resilience is something we all have and need to summon sometimes. In a way, both character arcs of Anna and Elsa are uite similar. Both learn to accept themselves and cherish their individual powers.
