I’ll be honest if there’s one thing Nintendo needs to learn from rockstar is how they added stunt races to gta V where you can make custom race tracks, but with Nintendo they should make a Mario kart maker, where they give a certain grid to make a course and then upload it. This would definitely be one way to keep Mario kart alive for longer..
The only problem with that is when they release it, what’s the point of buying another Mario kart game? That won’t make them money in the long run but im sure they’ve thought of it

As your first custom track that's actually a pretty cool idea and a decent attempt. There's a LOT behind making one and it can be a nightmare so the fact that you went through the entire process just for the video shows you put effort into making this hahaa
Really doesn't help that there's very little documentation on how to, and few videos on how to do so, with most of said videos being pretty bad and/or out of date (or at least it was when I was still working on it myself a year or two ago), and that's not to mention how janky MK Wii can be when trying to add or change things. Makes it pretty daunting and unwelcoming for newcomers, so I'm impressed whenever someone tries and actually succeeds at making anything remotely playable.

Explanation of what happened at 6:50: When you imported the images, they became 2D planes, which are infinitely thin, only have one side (the side with the image on it) and aren't treated as 3D objects. This means that the collision for the plane is only calculated on one side, allowing you to pass right through when approaching from the back, but collide with it from the front (think of it as a sort of one-way portal). Not sure why the planes were facing inwards though, but it can be easily fixed by just rotating them 180º

When you drove up the wall, it was because the wall collision type was set to floor, i did that once when making a track in Mario kart 7. Basically the game has different kinds of collisions for floors, walls, etc.
in a nutshell, you have 4 key components for a custom track: •track by itself (the thing you see. feel free to be creative there, just don't make something too heavy or it'll lag) •collision mesh (way lower poly compared to above. it tells the game where are roads, offroads, walls, fall areas, boosters and trick ramps) •paths (tells AI which way to go, also where the start line/end line are and where all checkpoints are) •objects (item boxes, lava geysers...etc...etc)
The Wii Shop Raceway and Wii Sports Resort custom tracks were made in a competition under a short amount of time which is probably why they're good but quite short

n a basic explanation of what happened as a mkwii ct track creator. First off, your collision is the wrong type, i think it is a jump pad collision. I would recommend using Bears blender kcl (collision) creator plugin. Second off the walls are faced the wrong way in the krusty crab cube. To fix this select the faces you want to flip and press alt n and select flip. This should fix your problem! 😉

You got stuck in the Krusty Krab because you inverted the faces. Doing so puts the outside on the inside and vice versa, and since the inside lack collision and the outside has collision, now that you've inverted them, you can drive into the box but not out.

And the walls are reversed, I mean, the no-collision side is in the outside that's why the wall that is facing the camera looks invisible.

I remember trying to make my own custom track. It's complicated and never understood how it worked
