  • Alba and Claudia got full ride scholarships to Columbia. Here's how they did it.
Big shout out to Claudia and Alba for this video. Both of you were amazing people to work with. Claudia is a huge part of SCORE's success in a lot of ways, and just the persistence and desire, never seen anything like it. Alba was an absolutely committed and dedicated applicant who never gave up and fought til the end. From the day I met you, I knew you had a ton of potential. Glad you got yours.

Thank you so much for such an interesting story🥰 I have a question: will International students take the real digital SAT exam using Bluebook or another specific app?

Hey Lina! Saw your question on the Pace video too, I was flying back from Spain today. The SAT will be done through Bluebook, so you have to use that app to take the test. I'm going to be putting up a video of Bluebook strategies soon to help you prepare to use that tool.

hey, so columbia's website says international students who apply fin aid and are applying ED will most likely be deferred because they want to compare the larger applicant pool, so would u suggest me to apply to Columbia ED or not, it is def my top school tho but if I'm obviously getting deferred wts the point yk

That is a good question. I would say you should always ED where you really want to be the most and if that's Columbia, that's okay. A deferral isn't a rejection; ED is a big sign of demonstrated interest which also means you're more likely to come off the waitlist like Alba did. I'm curious if you're considering other ED options though, there might be some better ones to consider.

@@score-yourcollegecounselor yeah my second choice of school is JHU it has an ED2 so originally my plan was if I get rejected frm Columbia I'll ED 2 to JHU but now I'd feel a lil bad cuz i probably will get deferred cuz i require aid 🥲

JHU might be a better ED investment. The admit rate goes up from 7.2% to 14.75% at JHU for EDs, while Columbia's goes from 3.7% to 12.4%. While that's a bigger jump, your overall shot is somewhat higher and as you say, you might be less likely to be deferred.

@@score-yourcollegecounselor would u recommend going with Columbia ED thn JHU ED2?

I think that works, if you don't get admitted on your first ED then you can apply to an ED2, although ED2 impact is usually lower and they never report the data separately so it's hard to measure how much it helps.

Hey I have a unique request to you as I think you are the perfect one to do that. Can you plz make a list of LAC's across america where we have the best shot to get a fullride. Let's for someone who is good but not extraordinary. I mean 1420+ on SAT 3.8 GPA and have some good EC's.
Give me 10 names which are historically provided international students fullride.

I know ivies and top tiers do that but I want to be realistic and shoot my shot where I had chance.

I like this idea! I've been thinking about doing something like that for a while, it's tricky though. There are several universities that have a very limited supply of full-ride scholarships, like IIT which can give up to 7 a year but usually only gives out 2-3. And then you've got LACs that promise to meet 100% of demonstrated need, but they don't always agree with your need numbers. F&M is one of those where you might get an offer that isn't quite 100%.
And then you've got cases like WVU where, if you get merit-based scholarships and apply to their international scholarships, you definitely have full tuition covered, but it requires multiple steps.
In general, if you're chasing a full ride, the "best shots" are like 5% chances while the rest are 1-2%. No guarantees, and that's only going to become harder for internationals in the future.
