Yes This this movie is phenomenal I love the plotting of every point and direction it shows a lovely and perfect changes in our life it shows how suffering made us a new being to create a better person this film is not about the animation quality it is about the moral it is about the understanding of our environment nature and understanding.
I share some of your criticisms, I was also disappointed in this film. I see others pointing out that the film was sort of a canvas for Miyazaki’s life, but I don’t think knowing that context really does much to elevate the film. Is it anti-war? Is it the main character recovering from the loss of his mother? Is it an escapist fantasy like Spirted Away? Even if it is all of those things, I never got a strong enough impression that this was the intention of the film. And I don’t think leaving it open-ended for interpretation really lends itself to any strong messages overall. The symbolism, writing, and characters really don’t provide a lot to latch onto. While a beautiful film, it felt pretty hollow overall.
I admire the animation, and there certianly are some tangible themes here (loss/accepting the death of a loved one, the meaning of one's legacy, etc.) But the overal story felt qay to scatterbrained and nonsensical for my taste.
I was disappointed seeing this movie in theaters. The lack of music in the whole film felt really weird and quiet in theaters; and the best song of the film that they used in the trailer is only used in the end credits 😢 animation was good but pacing was weird... felt boring to me
I appreciate you both checking out my video. I knew my take would be controversial but it is how I felt after seeing it. Batman did get a little better in the later episodes but did start off horribly. Hopefully some of my other content in the future will be more to your liking. Have a good day
First, but also you are wrong. So many of the elements are about Miyazaki himself. I get, that maybe as a stand-alone movie it wouldn’t be the biggest hit, but if you are a Miyazaki fan and know anything about his life then you would understand it’s meaning. Part of what’s challenging about this film is that he is nearing the end of his life, he is facing the very hard and real question about what it means to die, what it means to leave something behind for the next generation, and what it means to give thanks to those who came before. If you can look at the film through that lens it is powerful. Again, if you aren’t a big fan of Miyazaki and don’t know about his life then it would make sense that you wouldn’t get the significance of things. He also made this film for his dead mother, so I think that unless you see the significance it could be missed
I get there there is significance to the plot around his mom, the replacement mother figure, and dealing with life and death. The issues for me are around the lack of significance for characters like King Parakeet… why introduce his character so late with little significance? They could have easily had a throw away line about their uncle having those birds with him in his library at the start of the movie. Instead you introduce a new character with no specific reasoning about 8 mins before the credits. In general your point is correct. It isn’t for general audiences and definitely not for children. I’m glad you liked it. It wasn’t for me, but I appreciate your comment.
@@NewFactoryClassicsit’s not just about that, if you read a little bit about Miyazaki then you will see he is both the old uncle and he is the little boy, the movie is questioning whether he would do it all again in his life, whether the stories and worlds Miyazaki himself conjured were worthwhile and real. The parakeets are a reflection that we cannot escape the evils that we run from, the parakeets are like this seemingly harmless animal that becomes the very terrible nature of man that Miyazaki runs from in his films. There are many layers to this film, which is why for a hardcore Miyazaki watcher this is a great finale. I never imagined that this was for children, nothing about it says kids movie to me. For the first time I saw this as a movie written by Miyazaki for Miyazaki, as a sort of question posed by his life and work, something he could shove off on. I definitely agree kids shouldn’t watch it until maybe their teens
Funny story but Little Nemo was actually worked on by Miyazaki. I don’t think he’s associated with the final product so much but it at least passed through his hands among other animation leads… I dunno, Spirited Away is obviously a classic and it’s pretty unlikely people who watch boy and the heron won’t have already seen it, but Little Nemo is a bit more… nonsensical... so I would argue it’s for even younger children than the former.
I am not sure you are trying to be funny but you sound like a 5 year old watching this movie. This is a Miyazaki semi autobiography last movie. it may be a little self indulgent but it is a master piece. Try to watch it as an adult and you should enjoy it. I agree the audience is not meant to be for kids so if your title is not for kids I would agree but calling it suck is a click bait.
I think you should watch this movie again and come up with some real criticisms not “this movie is not for kids” and “it’s to confusing” especially this movie not being for kids I mean it’s rated pg-13 would it kill you to look
It literally has GKids for the opening card holder in all black. It’s like the first image even in the commercial on the IMDb page. So while it may be for teens or adults, they definitely at least partially market it to children and I tried to state clearly this isn’t for them. The fact is I just didn’t like it. I wanted to see it in theaters but things came up. So I had been looking forward to it coming out on max. I was very disappointed. There are so many better Ghibli movies in my opinion. I will probably never watch this again. Im also not as much of a diehard of Ghibli fan as others. I’m happy for them to get at least one last film they can love so much. But this wasn’t for me.

Yea I was very disappointed. I am glad that there are so many in their library I still love.
Nah I loved the music
I think you got more and more annoyed because you realized how limited you are in being able to understand meaning in film.
He praised Batman the cape crusader which was enough for me to understand what type of character he is

I’ll admit my love for Little Nemo is the fact I watched it as a child myself often in the 90s. I would put that on for anyone 3 or older probably.

Blue Giant, First Slam Dunk and Suzume were all better imo
