The view off that 16th floor balcony gave ME anxiety just watching the video! I realize Boston prices are high, but that is an insane price for an apartment that small. The 19th floor apartment at least has bigger closets, but that's still not worth the price.
If your new job is north of Boston, look up in the North Shore of Boston. The coastal towns of Newburyport, Ipswich, Marblehead, Gloucester and Rockport are great places to live. They are all on the beach and have a train connecting them and to Boston. I grew up in Ipswich I love the North Shore much better than the South Shore. Commuting in and out of Boston is bad by car. If your job is not in Boston consider the Northshore. You will get much more for your money. Boston has New York city prices. And terrible traffic.
The balcony didn’t give me anxiety... until you let the door close behind you on your way out there😳 LOVE that you had the option of a self guided tour: buying or renting, I always had to devise a subtle way to wander away from the realtor/rep to see if I could see myself in the space without their pressure or near constant chatter/questions. I wish that was a standard option everywhere!
Not sure why you're looking at a studio other than price. Looking at all the stuff you have in your current apartment, this studio wouldn't begin to house all of your things. $4,000 a month is crazy.
It's "Southie" not "Southy". When I lived in Boston many years ago, you took your life in your hands going to South Boston. They did not welcome strangers and if you weren't white, you were dead.
The Holiday Market at Snowport is awesome! No fee! It’s free and has sooo many vendors - especially women and Black-owned businesses - that set up booths. First day was this past Fri (Nov 8) and goes until Dec 29.
$4K is crazyyyy, i personally could never even if i could afford it. You could rent in the south shore and take the Hingham ferry into the city on the 4 days you have to go in. Also, when you pointed that camera down on the balcony i had to hold on to something..woooo yup i felt the anxiety too!
You have TOO MUCH STUFF for a Studio apartment !!! Enjoy your Apartment Search ! yes, those balconies had me terrified, Im scared of heights also . God Bless !
Thanks for the vlog I just watched your other moving videos , and when I saw this new video I was confused ,lol I LOVE ALL APT HUNTING videos , im excited again for you, good luck..
You would love Marina Bay in Quincy, a.k.a. Squantum. It has everything you could ask for the views a small town feel access to the highway without the crazy prices.
Working in an office 4 days a week won’t give you much time to enjoy the vibe. Maybe find something closer to work. Not sure where that is, but I live in the Boston area and know you can find a place for way less than 4 grand.
No way !! I had to turn my head when u went out on the balcony.. The $$ are crazy.. And your stuff would never fit in those studio apartments. Good luck!❤ Im in the process of packing up to move, and I'm downsizing but not to that degree..
Another suggestion is instead of you doing the leg work you should hire an apt locator and tell them your wants and needs and price range and square footage.
No way! They usually charge a full month’s rent as a broker fee. Sometimes you can split the fee with the landlord, but I have moved to a mgmt only building search to save that upfront fee.
If you’re considering working north of BOS, don’t do the Seaport (great area but not if you will be working outside the city). There are plenty of places on the North Shore and a lot of communities will offer places w more charm & near a beach etc.
Keep looking, they say (Zillow) that the average person takes 4 months to find a place. That was true for me. I live in California. I know you need to find a place faster but keep looking and try to get a bigger place if you can. I think you’re very brave taking all this on. I’m a new subscriber and am enjoying your adventures.
Thanks for sharing. I live in Dorchester and have often wondered about the seaport apartments . Have you thought about any of the north of Boston newer developments?
Seaport is great but you are definitely paying a premium in that building for location. That is a fabulous location in Seaport, close to the T, but the only grocery store within walking distance is Trader Joe’s. It can take up to 1.5 hours for a one way driving commute to the North Shore during peak times.
How Far away from your job ? Ok go look to a location close to your new job …I have a feeling you will find your dream apt there . Don’t care for either of those apts . Keep looking .😊
So a studio means no separate bedroom - 😳 - and the balcony nice but remember Boston - limited time to sit out with decent weather - (July/August) wow!!! What a reality check!!!
Seaport’s soooooo nice. I thought the apts were okay, but only if you were working right there. You’ll have to consider some places on the North Shore. (I’ve been up here 35 years, & it’s pretty good. Living in or around the town u’ll b working in would make the most financial sense IMHO.
Girl, I don't know why if you're considering a job in North Shore, you'd want to live in Seaport? I mean, the traffic alone...I HATE driving down there, it makes me so mad LOL. Also, Seaport has NYC Prices and NONE of the trademark Bostonian charm you would get in Back Bay. Do yourself a favor and get a cute little spot IN North Shore. Rockport is so cute and you'd get more bang for your buck and you wouldn't have to drive as far. If you want to stay urban, why not Somerville, Medford, Cambridge, or Arlington? The other side of the Charles is THE BEST. Also, I've lived in one of these luxury highrises and it was fun at first but in the end, I hated it. It's SO many people. Also...that price is INSANE. LOL As a professional home organizer, I've helped many people living in these types of apartments, and they are NOT built for people, IMO. You notice it had only ONE drawer in the kitchen? That is not uncommon. You do have a lot of items and unless you are prepared to live much more minimally, I think you need to pass that place by! I love these videos though! They are fun! :)
I need to look in all of those places before I decide. Thanks for the suggestions! It will definitely be a big change and I need to do a lot of downsizing for sure. I have lived in very small spaces in the past. It seems like when you have a little bit more space your stuff seems to multiply, at least that’s what’s happened to me! 😂
Congratulations on the new job if you take it. You have so much stuff, your 1 bedroom apartment is already crammed with too much there is no way you can downsize to a studio. Just stay put and fulfill your lease, In the meantime try getting rid of stuff so when your lease is up you can move north and have less. Living with less is so freeing.
All depends if you take the job. If you do, most practical plan is to live close to work on the beautiful north shore . Since u have to go into the office 4x a week, Boston’s rents are too high and u would spend too much of your life commuting
No. Find something outside the city proper, north. My stomach turned when you were on the balcony. What if you had locked yourself out there 😱? Maybe find an apartment in a triple decker in a neighborhood.
Wow $3495 a month 🙀 That would pay for a monthly mrtg on a $550,000 house! Of course you probably could not get a home in Boston for $550k I live in Florida, it’s interesting seeing the cost of things in other states. My son was renting an apartment in San Fran for $4k but it was in bedroom loft apartment much bigger than that.
Think about one bedroom with a den area or maybe if you're willing to sign a longer lease they might give you a discount. Also, I think you really need to consider getting rid of some more things or seeing if the apt offers a storage space. I really like your vlogs and you seem to have a really sweet spirit.
I used to drive afoul hours a day five times a week and I hated it especially winter I would save my time up if I neeed to take off for bad weather . One time a winter storm hit while I was at it took me almost 9 hours to get home it was freezing rain sleet and snow in the northeast USA .. so glad I am no longer at that job Yay if you can afford and apartment close to work great .. good luck as thanks for sharing .. I hope the new job is way more money if you are willing to move for it …that’s just my opinion ..
Dang, no! I paid $1000 a month for my mortgage. There’s no way I’m going to pay that for an apartment. I would definitely commute you have a lot of items in your apartment and no judgment here because I am a maximalist😊 there has to be a different way to commute than 100% using your car. Depending where you are working, you can always find alternate roads. I live in Western MA and I haven’t been in Boston for a while, but it seems like the place you’re at now is perfect for you. Just my opinion.❤
Boy, has Boston changed! I left Boston over 30 years ago and if you weren't recognized as a fellow "Townie", you'd be challenged if you set foot in Charlestown. Same went for Southie.
Boston is an amazing city to live but the rents are so out there. You said your next job is north of Boston. Have you ever considered Salem. They have a growth over the past decade. There is a lot of new high rise living apartments. There is a lot to see and experience in Salem. Just a thought i lived and worked there. Retired now and enjoying Florida.
The quality of apartment fixtures/cabinets are not inline with expectations for the area OR rent. Threre is also lack of storage which is a no go. I am not entranced enough to live in Seaport and pay crazy rent for cheap looking showers/fixtures/cabinets/lack of storage.
There are some apts near Commercial street at the seaport close to a Starbucks. Not high rise. I wish I had written the number down or taken a pic when I saw the lease sign and phone number. Only drawback would probably be residential street parking…especially in winter. I believe you prefer garage parking. I’m with you on that.
4,000 is high but your paying for the location ! That’s awful small ! the patio i loved ! I live on the North Shore and we are very expensive i pay 3,000 plus everything even water ! for a 1 bedroom 1 bath with a loft! The Seaport district is Super expensive
So sorry you have to go apartment hunting .... do you 'HAVE" to move to Boston ????? Good Luck and I hope you find what you love. come to Rhode Island !!!!
Why would you ever turn down a job? You aren't making any money not working, even if it's idle time in a hiatus. You can always find another one if you don't like that one.
@INFJWoman I had a good friend of mine tell me you can always quit and move on, because you were actually looking for a job when you found the one you quit...to get the new job you really wanted...lol.. 😏..girl thinking reasonably..lol..
"North Shore" not "North End". The North End is the neighborhood of Boston where the Paul Revere House is. It is (or was) an Italian neighborhood where the best Italian restaurants were located.
You have too much stuff where would you put all your stuff? Didn’t you just move to 1 bedroom and didn’t have enough space? Not being mean just real. No I would not pay $4000 . Yes you are paying for amenities , the view and the new up and coming neighborhood.
WTH? That's wicked expensive for an apartment with a horrible view of the city. I am definitely not a city person. I need lots of trees and grass and green space. We live in S.E. Massachusetts and have two mortgages on our house that total $1800. a month and I thought that was ridiculous. God forbid if there was a fire living that high up. I don't mean to be negative but how can anyone afford that? You pay an arm and a leg but you don't get anything for it. You should just buy a house.

Drive an hour and head for the country..lol
look for a house apartment closer to your job.

That’s why you pay $1000 mortgage. Western Mass is a whole nother’ place
Have you looked into Charlestown? My daughter lived there in the brownstones before she moved to South Boston, and they were really nice.
Boy, has Boston changed! I left Boston over 30 years ago and if you weren't recognized as a fellow "Townie", you'd be challenged if you set foot in Charlestown. Same went for Southie.

She has a Tesla so that might be a problem unless there’s a plug for one on the street.

Too expensive, I think you can do better in a low-traffic area. Good luck searching 😌
look on the north shore. much nicer than south shore by far. your commute will leave you little time to be in the seaport. Salem, Beverly, Marblehead
No way! Too much for such a small space.
Wow it is beautiful. My house payment is 2800 with 3 acres. If i had to down size. I’d go tor that ! It is beautiful tho.
If you're working north, move to the northshore,. Good luck
So sorry you have to go apartment hunting .... do you 'HAVE" to move to Boston ????? Good Luck and I hope you find what you love. come to Rhode Island !!!!
Yup, we live in MA just over the border from RI.👍
Do use the self driving feature on your Tesla?
Yes! I use it all the time. I love it! It makes a massive difference in stop and go traffic.
Why would you ever turn down a job?
You aren't making any money not working, even if it's idle time in a hiatus.
You can always find another one if you don't like that one.
I have a job now. I was just offered another one. I hope it’s better, but oftentimes you don’t know until you get into it.
@INFJWoman gotcha...
@INFJWoman
Very Happy for You!
🕊️♥️🎼
@INFJWoman
I had a good friend of mine tell me you can always quit and move on, because you were actually looking for a job when you found the one you quit...to get the new job you really wanted...lol..

If you’re going to work north of Boston then why not get a place north of the city and pay much less?
North end is better in my opinion. Wakefield, Salem, Stoneham
I agree, rented in Stoneham, loved it.
"North Shore" not "North End". The North End is the neighborhood of Boston where the Paul Revere House is. It is (or was) an Italian neighborhood where the best Italian restaurants were located.
I would go out around Newton where you can jump on T to go into Boston -
Can you find an apartment that is closer to your possible job?
Did you take the job and find a closet place to live?
4 k a month ,I couldn’t and wouldn’t live there!
The second one I meant.
can you not LIVE north of boston to be closer to work. they have nice areas just like the south of boston?
You have too much stuff where would you put all your stuff? Didn’t you just move to 1 bedroom and didn’t have enough space? Not being mean just real. No I would not pay $4000 . Yes you are paying for amenities , the view and the new up and coming neighborhood.
The common areas are nice but the apartments are not. No way I'd pay even $1k for these places much less $4k.
WTH? That's wicked expensive for an apartment with a horrible view of the city. I am definitely not a city person. I need lots of trees and grass and green space. We live in S.E. $4000. and you'd be sleeping in the kitchen....not so good...maybe something in back bay where apts are more charming. Maybe Cambridge?
No! I personally would not want to be house poor . But great apartment for those who can afford it
Sacrifice does not mean infidelity
I could never live in the City. I'm from South of Boston. on the water.Who would want a view of buildings? Not me.
I like the view of the water personally. And I want to be close enough to it to hear the waves crashing. It seems to melt all of my stress away.
You must have a really high paying job to afford those. No way to much drive out of town and get a trailer or small house to buy
Why wouldn't you look north of Boston if you may be working there? I don't understand your thinking . 4000$ is insane for a studio. Parking too. You must have an incredible job. 3495$ is too much for such tiny spaces. Again I don't understand why you are looking here.
i would have to have a balcony., i need that outside. without it you are just in a box.
Never would pay that. Crappy, noisy views. Paying for parking is crazy. Rent is too high everywhere. Nuts. Like people renting don't want people to have any room. To me that's putting people down.
No way!
Sarah, you need a one bedroom.🐾😂
Would I live in that area? Absolutely. Would I be house poor regardless of neighborhood? Nope.
Depends on how much money you have to spend!!
You might get more room for less$$ in Alston or Medford.
Why don’t you look more on the north shore?
I’m planning on it soon. I still have some time.
No, I would not pay $4,000/month!
North
Don't even consider those.
No way I’d pay 4000 per month.
LOL we all like the Back Bay area.
4K way too much
I would not pay that amount for that apartment. Feels kind of cold, no personality, balcony too small to entertain, noisy.
Do you really need more cookies. OMG. You need a total reality check.😢
Girl, you are a queen. They should be kissing your feet. If not, move on!!
No way
Seaport..
Dot & Southie
Hello Sarah
I would rather live further out, payless.
Yup, I would live in that area. Cuz I work on long wharf - I work In seaport ; love those buildings . B U T
The height!
U are paying for the Location-
I'd pay that , but only on a lower floor .
Hah !
Ludicrous rent for a not particularly impressive apartment. Very cheaply put together & poorly planned.
You job is 3 hours north?
Move much closer to yr job, esp considering a winter commute.
A winter commute is no small thing.
Can't believe anyone would find those apartments acceptable
Sarah my mom lived in Boston all her life,I am a country person ,but I understand when you work you need to be close. The rent holly.Thats alot.
too much money. try cambridge
Forget it! Both of the studio apartments were too small , too bland and too EXPENSIVE. Move on! Find something that excites you.
Sap!
4000 to live in a prison cell?
Far too much for a studio.
Stay away from back bay. It’s on all the most dangerous areas list. Seaport is AMAZING.. my son works there everyday & it’s a beautiful area. Ps you are on the Logan airport track.
Hellll noooooo
