I LOVED the Primitives, Voice of the Beehive, the Sundays but the Darling Buds are the best! Great to see this after only listening to my three albums on vinyl for the past 30 years!
@@harkyoVoice Of The Beehive were awesomely lovable as they were lovably awesome. Never neglect them, not least when their deliberately overshadowed barely released wonderful 3rd album "Sex & Misery" is their masterpiece. They did lots of non-album songs too, since their inception. High time all their stuff was remastered. The Buds finally have a boxset called "Killing For Love"-includes ALL their albums and some extra stuff, just not their last 2 singles from a few years ago, sadly.
This album should have blown up like a keg of gunpowder........ Just goes to show how many incredible bands gets shunned when @ the top of their games simply because the masses only know how to jump on the bandwagons of the times & not look beyond what's moosed in their faces to find music that really moves them. And with a band like the D B's....... The loyal crowd of real fans just wasn't enough to keep them afloat @ the time. They should come back & stay.
Went from 4 piece to 5 piece at this point. each album got progressively 'denser' in sound. While I love all their albums, this is my favorite. Glad I caught them playing live twice back on Crawdaddy and Erotica tours.
Finally, after nearly a quarter of a century, I find out what this tune is. Taped it off the radio back in '92 and been trying to find out. God bless Track ID.
Giiiiiiirl this was one of my faves when I was 16 but it was taped off alternative nation on MTV and I missed the intro..took me weeks of googling random lyrics lol
Sweetie, a burst water pipe being farted out through a pressure cooker sounds bloody better. The music scene has been for shite for 4 decades now and only (generally) the 80s people can be relied upon. The best ones are still doing awesome music right now when they can, and the 80s had many of them at their best. The 80s was the only time when talent generally far outweighed the crap, though the crap and the overrated it must be said, are the only oned ever remembered and feted from that time of course!
This is the first song I heard by The Darling Buds back in 1992 on the album Erotica. I "discovered" them through producer Stephen Street, who produced an album for Danielle Dax (one of my favorite 80s artists). Glad to see their video's online!
Saw them open up for The Church back in the 90s. We were parked outside next to their bus and saw them hanging outside. Started talking to them. They invited me and my friend on the bus. Next thing I knew we were smoking a joint with the band and I was in love with Andrea( and so was my friend) We parted ways and never saw them play live again.
my gf, ex chanel/dior model. andrea refused to talk to us, unless my gf, left the ROOM, AVERAGE LOOKING SINGER WAS frightened by a genuine beautiful woman
Na vašej hudbe som prežil najkrajšie chvíle života s mojou prvou láskou a skate kamošmi. Ďakujem ❤️Čas už nevravím ale s vašim prvým albumom Erotica sa vraciam aspoň v spomienkach
I always felt the Darling Buds timing were off just three years ahead. When they had made their debut album Pop Said. in 1988-89. The songs and the music video had looked like it came out in 1991 to 93. It can be said with Erotica in 92 especially with singles like Sure thing. Because that song and music video has that Alanis Morissette's vibe even before Alanis adopted that style in 94 and made it into mainstream. If the band and the record label would have held on til the mid 90's, they probably would have caught a break. They were too early.
McDonagh looks in this as if he knew the writing was on the wall for the DB's when this was filmed. Cheap video for a class tune. A 5 man line up is too many for a band as well, it always looks too crowded visually.
James Hurst I meant 'Lush' (as in the band by that name) is not as good. Now I realize you meant this song is lush. It is and you are right! Sorry for the confusion. Anyone who loves the Darling Buds is cool in my book. ;)
Intro is waaaaay too long. Vocal is WAY TOO LOW. Melody line is not anywhere near as dynamic as my favorites by them. That concludes my "drive-by criticism" for today... :-D
This was off their 3rd (and sadly last) disc 'Erotica' of which they changed up their sound somewhat. When I first heard it I was a little disappointed because GONE were the instantly accessible candy-colored pure pop heart-broken relationship lyrics and like you mentioned, the vocals are not as up front and thick with catchy Beatles-type harmonies-they are a little understated throughout the entire disc. Over the years I have begun to appreciate it more and just think they were trying to change with the times, yet the first 2 discs (and now this one) are always going to be guilty pleasures! I wish they would do more music. Andrea is beautiful as well!
This album is a lost pop masterpiece, and every bit as timeless and great today as it was on release.
It's really an incredible record

Thanks for reminding me about Voice of the Beehive! Big Darling Buds fan since Crawdaddy on tape.❤😊

80"S MUSIC RULES! BUT THE EARLY 90"S WEREN'T BAD!! the dj
probably my favorite buds song , I never get tired of hearing it
Totally agree. Nearly perfect.
This was not very well known band but I loved them. Still sounds fresh after all these years.
I am 13 and got to see this played at a sound check
Great song.
So jealous. Love this song. Great hook to it.

Failed by sub-standard management & House music commercially sweeping away the 80's indie guitar movement, & 2 poorly recorded LP's.
Just a few years later they would've swept into the top 10 on the back of britpop. Fickle game, music.
Wonderful song. Ashamed I missed this when it first came out.

"take a shot at nothing" "Take a head everybody the whole world"
Great live band...love Andrea's sand-dancing!
Got this on vinyl when it came out and played it to dddeeeeaaaaathhh. Never seen the video till today!
Wow what an awesome song ! Far better than any of the stuff today in 2020

Simple and common is easy to sell. Back then, we wanted better and different. People just want easy now. So sad. @@kyachdistent1301
Sigh. Nostalgia engaged
Saw them with Kitchens of Distinction at Clapham Junction in 1992. Incredible show.
I was at that show too!
Think i saw them on the same tour at Liverpool's Crazy House.
This album is an absolute masterpiece! Love it! Love it! Love it!
This album is so frickin’ good. I like the first two also. But this one you could see the progression of the band.
Excellent album. Criminally-underrated band. STILL performing, I hear ;-)
Andrea The surely Prettiest Star...

Well I hope you check out the first two albums mate. They're better.
My favorite album peace

superb track. thought it was the joy formidable at first but then...

Love the song. Love her voice. Don't think too much of her shooting
Madonna's Erotica album came out two weeks after theirs, and the cover even looks the same in blue.
She best rock singer 💗 please keep singer for us l love your band
We love this song :)
yep..my teenage years...
brilliant, got the 12" on time of release!!!
still have a recording of this in a tape somewhere from 1993
92 here, via A!ternative Nation with Tabitha Soren
I love this song :)
Darling Buds and Primitives never had a weak track.

Hands down, the best song by The Darling Buds. But the lead guitar player must have some wicked carpal tunnel by the end of the song!
***** What, in your opinion, is the Darling Buds best song. I'd like to give it a listen.
:)
Believe it or not, this is the first time I've heard this very song. My favorite is still 'The Other Night.'
Bill Seamans I could swear I answered this before, but perhaps privately. In any case, I vote for "Isolation."
Tiny Machine...the end.
SUCH A KOOL BAND
I just bought this album on a garage sale.
"garage sale." Ha! A 'Hidden Gem.' ;-)
@@slapittywapitty8173 great album BTW!!
Suck a wicked band. Such a short career though. Criminal.
They love this song :)

Per 'Translucentman,' "pearls before swine." How did THIS album NOT sell? Maybe it WAS the Madonna album name confusion?
Never heard this song so here goes...
Not as shambling as their early songs like 'It's All Up To You''. They kinda sound like Velocity Girl here.
McDonagh looks in this as if he knew the writing was on the wall for the DB's when this was filmed. Cheap video for a class tune. A 5 man line up is too many for a band as well, it always looks too crowded visually.

Lush.
James Hurst ...is not as good as the Darling Buds.
I am nowhere near as good...
