Amazing as always, Captain!
Thank you so much for the great feedback, for being a loyal subscriber and for the financial support of my channel! Have a nice day!
I love the taxi out and take off videos especially on bigger airports. You learn a lot of the procedures and atc communications although I only use them in the simulator haha
Thanks! It's nice to hear that you love the taxi out and take off videos! I will continue to publish them. Have a nice day!
This is excellent. I have been visiting Manchester Airport as a passenger and a spotter for over 60 years and it’s amazing how things have changed. I am familiar with MAN flight ops from landside so it is great to see these ops from the flight deck. Thanks for uploading 😊
Thanks for watching and for sharing your personal experience. It's great to hear that you like my video. The changes at the airport over the last 60 years must have been enormous. All the best to you. Have a nice day!
Another excellent video - please keep the long videos coming as it's fascinating see how the flight briefings, procedures, charts, and ATC all fit together for a seamless departure. The multi camera setup must be difficult to achieve, but it makes for really great viewing. Thanks .
Thank you so much for the very detailed feedback! This is very helpful! I also like my new videos much more than the older ones which were filmed with less cameras and without charts ...... We won't see the breifings ... in all future videos but I try to include them whenever possible. Have a nice day!
Awesome video, but why did you have to contact another tower at T1, doesn't one person monitor 23R and 23L
Myself, as a student pilot, i really learn a lot from your videos! Both ATC-communications, and the learning about charts, and all the functions the Airbus has :)
Thank you big time! Keep up the good work!
It's great to know that you like the videos especially as a student pilot! I wish you all the best for your pilot training! Have a nice day!
Hello Cpt.
Another beautiful and fascinating video. 😀👌
An extremely complicated and very long taxi to Rwy 23L.
But what fascinates me enormously is the extreme climb performance in the Airbus Open Climb Mode. 🛫
I think the camera settings and the change with the cameras to the current values in the checklists during the taxi are great. Thanks.
I'm looking forward to the next video!
With this in mind, I wish you and your crew a nice week!
Best regards from Styria 🤗
Werner
Werner, thanks for watching and the detailed observations. In regard to climb performance, please checkout the A320 NEO videos. Even with high weight, the climb performance is outstanding. Have a nice day!
Absolutely fantastic footage! I am a student commercial helicopter pilot with an equal love of fixed wing flying and videos like this are so amazing from a learning perspective seeing how things really happen on the flight deck! Thank you!
Thanks for watching and the kind words! Great to hear that you like the videos! I wish you all the best for you pilot training! Have a nice day!
You guys are the greatest!
With all the responsibility that comes with making sure ALL your passengers are safe and in good hands, I cannot find the words to fully appreciate your professionalism in a demanding and unique occupation.
Thank you for watching and the very detailed and kind feedback! Have a wonderful day!
Very professional while maintaining a relaxing atmosphere.
Thanks for your analysis and the great feedback! Have a nice day!
Great to see the MCDU shots and chart overlays added now!
Thanks for watching and the helpful feedback! I will try to include the MCDU more often. But it won't be possible in all videos.
The shots of the MCDU/FCU during setup are a really nice addition. Nice work!
Hopefully you get the chance to film a 24 arrival at EGPH, that's a lovely approach (although I am biased!).
Thanks for watching and your valuable feedback! I will try to include MCDU shots whenever possible. It may not be possible in all future videos. Thanks for the EGPH runway 24 request. Please stay tuned for that. Have a wonderful day!
There's already one on the channel ua-cam.com/video/F5KsYyplAA0/v-deo.html
Ah, it is Saturday again and I have seen your lovely video of you taking off from Manchester airport. I love to see you approaching and departing UK airports Captain. You seem to have a varied amount of airports you fly to and from, you can never get bored with that. Many thanks for sharing this with us.
Thanks for being a long time subscriber! Yes, our route network contains lots of different destinations in many countries. As you already stated: It never gets boring. Have a great day!
Love the excellent communication between the pilots
Thanks for the good feedback! Have a nice day!
Thank you so much for a great video! I love ground operations so seeing the entire pushback and taxi is really fun to watch. I try and do a full procedure flight every evening in my flight simulator, so it's always great to learn more information by watching videos such as yours. Can't wait to see more!
Thanks for watching and the detailed feedback! I wish you nice flights with your simulator!
That’s me 3 minutes into the video in front of plane waiting to do my line check. Was great talking to you that day.
Yes Enderrssss 🤣
Thanks for your hard work providing a safe operation at Manchester airport. I hope to see you again soon! Have a nice weekend and all the best to you!
Thank you so much for the detailed video of your taxi and take off. The amount of work you put into these is well appreciated I am sure by all your viewers - Happy contrails captain!
Thanks for being a regular viewer and for your kind words. Have a great day!
I really enjoy all of the procedural stuff and the full length videos, keep them coming!
Thanks for watching and the helpful feedback!
Great Video captain, your efforts to provide us with screenshots such as the fuel page on the lower ECAM is highly appreciated! Keep on going, as you improve the quality from time to time :)
Thanks for the detailed feedback! That really helps. The mentioned screenshots will not be available in all future videos, but I will try to include these features more often. Have a nice day!
A lovely departure to greet my Saturday morning. All is right with the world. Thank you for yet another wonderful video.
Thanks for watching and your friendly words. Have a great day!
You were quite light. Great video again.
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant. I'm flying out of Manchester tomorrow on an Easyjet A320 with my son for his first flight. He loved this video too!
Thanks for watching and for the good feedback! Have a safe trip! Greetings to your son!
Yet another great video! Really smooth and nice departure, that's the nice thing about early morning, the skies are very calm
Thanks for the good feedback! It depends: Some airports even have an early morning rush hour. But after an hour or two it usually gets less crowded.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos oh that makes sense, but also the sky is calm literally as in the air is very smooth :) not a lot of turbulence I imagine
Thank you for the high quality videos. Being able to see the charts too is really interesting!
Thanks for watching and the very helpful feedback! Have a nice day!
That P.A. was really impressive!!! Another excellent video. Thanks Captain.👍
Thanks for watching and the friendly feedback. Have a good day!
Great to see departure from my home Airport. Thank You Captain ✈️
Thanks for watching! Best greetings to Manchester!
Thanks for the nice words! All my best greetings to Greece!
Love the video. It Nice to see my city's international airport from your perspective. I usually take photos at a viewing spot by the side of the displaced threshold of 23L. One day I may end up snapped a photo of you. I hope we see more Manchester videos from you guys. Keep up the good work
Thanks for watching and your detailed feedback! As soon as I am scheduled again to Manchester, I will try to make a new video. It may take a while. Please stay tuned. Greetings to Manchester! I will see you at the displaced threshold.
What a challenging taxi diagram. Great job navigating along the alpha-numerical maze. The departure procedure looks like child's play in comparison. Another excellent video.
Uwe, thank you so much watching, your kind words and the detailed feedback! I agree! Taxiing is sometimes way more challenging than flying. Have a great day!
Superb footage, love watching these. Thank you so much for publishing these 👍 Have a nice day and looking forward to the next one👍
Thanks for the great feedback! Have a wonderful day!
Excellent video - again! You have got the instrument display views working very well now. They do add a lot to our understanding. I liked that ATC gave you vectors for a shortcut on departure!
Thanks for watching and for being a subscriber! I agree, we also liked the shortcut during the departure. It saved some time and fuel. And emissions. Have a nice day!
Quite simply inspirational, very professional 💯
I really enjoyed watching this.
Thanks for watching and your good feedback!
Three times you blessed the ground crew with "have a wonderful day". He must have had the best day of his life!
Thanks for watching and your feedback! Have a wonderful day!
Perfect video. There are many procedures but they love their job. Nice to watch them

Hi Captain, loving the videos. They are great help and very interesting to watch, especially as a student pilot studying for his ATPL's.
That's wonderful! I wish you all the best with your ATPL study!
my local airport i love this place i go and watch the aircraft here a lot love the video
It's great to hear that! Have a nice day! Greetings to Manchester!
Thank you for showing the taxing, that was really helpful for me i guess :)
It's great to hear that the video was helpful for you! Thanks for the helpful feedback and have a nice day!
What an amazing video again. Keep going! Love it!
Thank you so much for the friendly feedback! Have a wonderful day!
Awesome video, butni have 2 questions. Why did you do the flight controls check if the F/O is the pilot flying? And why did you have to contact another tower at T1? Doesn't one person monitor both 23R and 23L?
Thanks for watching and your good feedback! We both have to do the flight control check because the sidesticks are not interconnected like yokes in conventional airplanes. In a conventional plane, one pilot can check the controls and the other just feels and sees the movement of the yoke. It looks like that one tower controller monitored the arrival runway and the other the departure runway and the airspace.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos oh right, thanks very much😃
Keep up these Videos , seeing these vids is what i love :)
Thanks for watching and for your feedback. Nice to hear that you love the videos! Have a good day!
An excellent insight to your role and at my local airport. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching and your feedback! Greetings to Manchester!
Just awesome to what’s goes on up front love lov3 it

I love to see this ❤ what a wonderful videos and very professional work thanks for uploading those videos ❤ keep it up 👍 watching from Pakistan 🇵🇰
Thanks for watching and your great feedback! Best greetings to Pakistan! Have a nice day!
Excellent video as always
Thanks again!
another informative and great video
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic video as always, thank you for continuing to share your flights with us. I fly the Fenix A320 in MSFS and your content is extremely educational to a land-based flyer like me! As always, I look forward to your next one 👍 (Manchester is my local airport so this was extra exciting to see)
Thanks for sharing your personal experience and the wonderful feedback! Nice to hear that you like the content of my channel. Best wishes to Manchester!
Its a very beautiful departure
Thanks for watching and your friendly feedback! Have a great day!
Noticed Kinder Scout on one of your maps at '2089' feet, highest point in the Peak District.
Thanks for the input! I always love to get more information about the details of the airport surroundings. Have a nice day!
Excellent as always! Could you consider a video to Kosice when the route opens later in the year?
Thanks for the nice feedback and your suggestion! It depends on my schedule. I cannot guarantee that I fly to a certain airport. But if I will be scheduled to Kosice, I will try to do a video. As always, it may take a while until that happens. Please stay tuned. Have a great day!
Oh, finally one with the new procedures/checklists. Liked the old shorter ones more, how do you think about it?
The new checklists are ok. I have no complaints. They have been developed by Airbus together with representatives of several large airlines.
I find these videos strangely relaxing. A young first officer couldn't ask for a better environment to learn his trade.
Thanks for watching and your friendly words! Have a nice day!
Very very interesting thanks Captain. I would ask you why you always start the chronometer before take off. What is its purpose? Thanks again Rob
Thanks for watching and your question. The chronometer which you see in the navigation display is started at takeoff to monitor the time limit for the takeoff thrust. If both engines are running, the limit is 5 minutes and if only one engine is running (after an engine failure) the limit would be 10 minutes.
Hello Captain, Great work and super interesting! Just one question - what was the Intention of clearing FMS from? Eklad (in last 2 minutes of the video) although you did Sonex SID?
Thanks for watching. Good question: We were flying on a heading. And the flight plan in the MCDU was not yet sequenced. You see that in the video on the ND. It shows MCT7 as to-waypoint. This point was already behind us. So we entered direct ELNOD which was the next waypoint in our routing we would have reached when we would have continued on the heading. Because we were not cleared direct ELNOD, we just entered direct ELNOD and then pulled immediately the heading knob to get back in heading mode.
Klasse wie immer!
Danke fürs Anschauen und das gute Feedback!
Excellent video as always! Love the fact that we are seeing more departures recently. I note that usually you fly the outbound and the FO flies the return leg to home base?
Thanks for watching and your helpful feedback! There is no general rule about who flies to the destination or the home base. On lots of days, we fly 4 legs. In that case, both pilots do one landing at the home base and one somewhere else. Before duty begins, we discuss and decide who is flying which leg. Some airports, like Funchal or Samos are restricted to Captains landing only. Also CAT2 or CAT3 approaches in fog have to be performed by the Captain.
Great video Captain so Professional can I ask why a rolling take off is used like in the video compared to a stand still take off . Is it less wear on engines ? Thank you
The rolling takeoff needs in total a little less energy and reduces brahe wear because you do not stop the airplane on the runway before applying takeoff power. On the other hand, the rolling takeoff may need a little more takeoff distance because of the different line up angle. Also, during a rolling takeoff, the full takeoff thrust may be available a little later which may require a few meters more takeoff distance.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos thank you 😊
Another great vid! At the end a good demo of one of the very few awkward ‘Airbusisms’, in my opinion - trying to clean up the flight plan and being unwillingly pulled out of HDG mode by the direct to function. Never been sure why that is a feature.
Thanks for watching and the feedback! If you enter a direct to a waypoint, as we did, the Airbus wants to turn to that waypoint. This is ok. It would be not ok, if the plane would stay in HDG in that situaton. The other option to sequence the flightplan correctly would be to clear all waypoints behind us and to keep a good to and from waypoint. This is the method which keeps you in HDG mode. If you would press the HDG button, the current HDG would intercept the entered leg between the from and to waypoint. I think that the design of the system iwas done very well and works great.
Great video as always! Any possibility of a full flight? Maybe time-lapse the cruise, but show both takeoff and landing.
Thanks for the feedback and the suggestion! I would love to produce a full flight video. Due to technical restrictions it is way more difficult than said. But I keep your suggestion in mind and hope to come up with something. It may take a while. Have a great day and please stay tuned!
Fantastic content, love it!
I am happy to hear that you like it. Have a nice day!
Nice, I watch often Live Streams from Manchester Airport, Flex 68?,is this a reduced thurst setting for take off, only 68% or something else?
Thanks for the feedback! The Flex 68 means that the thrust is reduced to the same thrust value you would obtain if the outside air temperature would be 68 degrees C. The maximum possible reduction is 25 % and not less than climb thrust.
Great video as always, any chance of a full taxi, takeoff, flight, and landing on one of the shorter routes?
Thanks for the nice feedback! I would love to do such a video. Due to technical restrictions, it is way more complicated than said. But I will keep your request in mind. I hope to come up with something, but it may take time. Please stay tuned! Have a great day!
Amazing! Would love to see a new EGBB (Birmingham) video :)
Thanks for the good feedback! I will keep your request about Birmingham in mind. It may take a while until I am scheduled to EGBB and are able to record a new video. Please stay tuned. Have a nice day!
I was a bit surprised there was no change in thrust setting or taxi speed when crossing 23R. Is that simply because the next arrival was sufficiently far away? One would have thought you would prefer to be on the crossing runway for the minimum time. You did note the gradient change at P1 though which catches some crews out. Excellent video as usual 👍
Thanks for watching and the good feedback! We increased the speed during the crossing from about 9 knots to 14 knots. If ATC would have asked us to expedite crossing, we would have increased the speed a little more. Here, the next inbound traffic was far away, and the Lufthansa, which just landed, was still on the runway. Also, we do not want to be too fast because we want to check thoroughly if the runway is really clear and nobody is coming close.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Oh ok, I guess the speed increase was not discernible on video. I'm asking because I'm actually ATC at Manchester. Speak soon! :)
Great vid thanks👍😁.......one question.....why are aircraft asked to contact Scottish when leaving Manchester? Thank you👍
This is due to the airspace structure and the controlling ATC agency.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos thank you😁👍
Thank you for bringing everybody along. I am curious what speed do you taxi at on the ground please?
Thanks for watching and your question. In general, we do not want to taxi faster than 30 knots straight or 10 knots in a sharp turn. Depending on the circumstances, the actual speeds may be much lower, especially when it is slippery or so. Sometimes 1 or 2 knots in a turn is more than enough to avoid skidding.
Cannot beat a rolling takeoff 🛫
On long runways with a good margin it makes lots of sense.
Nice T/O...! Thanks. F/O.
Thanks for watching!
Tolle Videos, klasse inszeniert!
Love the channel you provide such an excellent insight from the flight deck in all of your destinations! Many thanks for the great content Captain :)
Thanks a lot! It's great to hear that you love the channel. Have a nice day!
Excellent video thank you. Can you say what date|time this flight was please?
Thanks for watching. For privacy reasons, I do not release the recording dates or times of the videos. I ask for your understanding.
Great video as always! Quick question: at 23:51 as you reached 5200ft, the altitude suddenly dropped to 4600ft in an instant. What happened there, was it just a configuration change of some sort?
The altimeter setting was set from the local altimeter setting to the standard altimeter setting.
Grr gate A9. All those gates are an age away from all the terminal shops etc. Even worst is the walk to passport control on the way in.
Yes. And even a long taxi tme to and from the runway. But better long taxi and long walking as no room for airplane and passengers.
Does it depend on company policy if you do single engine taxi out? I flew SAS from Geneva recently and did single taxi out (it seemed), although for just a short while. And thanks for yet another great video. Great details on departure briefing, getting better and better with MCDU etc. And sometimes flying both airports in sim, even better content for me.
Thanks for watching and your question. In general, Airbus allows in the SOPs single engine taxi in and single engine taxi out. The airlines usually do their own risk assessment and decide if they want to use the procedures or not. Some airlines do it some not. Single engine taxi out would include an engine start which is not monitored from the outside. Also, the parameters during the start should be monitored by the pilots. If taxiing in parallel at a crowded airport, it may be not the best idea to have the eyes inside and monitoring the engine parameters.
Is there any flying in this video or do they taxi all the way to their destination?
Sometimes, it looks like taxiing takes longer than the flight.
if i may i ask, what was it about this situation where a rolling take-off was used instead of what i assume is the standard stationary start.
Also thank you for the consistent uploading, they are very interesting.
Thanks for watching and your feedback! Airbus A320 series standard takeoff procedure is to line up on the runway, hold the brakes and release the brakes when reaching 50 % N1 or 1.05 EPR depending on the engine type. Airbus also accepts a non standard "rolling takeoff" which we did in the video. It eliminates the stationary part on the runway. Depending on the general circumstances, the crew can decide what they prefer.
It seems that taxiing is sometimes more demanding than any of the approach procedures 😅
That's correct. Every airport is very unique on the ground. Flying an ILS or so is very similar, regardless of the airport. Have a nice day!
Would love to see a landing video in Sylt EDXW 😊 have a nice day
Thanks for watching and your request. I published a video of an approach to Westerland a while ago. But this in an old style video with no views into the cockpit. ua-cam.com/video/UcPnSyWu1bw/v-deo.html I hope to fly to EDXW soon again and try to make a new video with combined cockpit and outside views. Please stay tuned. Have a good day!
Tolles Video, Captain!
Sowas nennt man "versetzte Schwelle".
@@ApproachandDepartureVideostoll! Vielen Dank für die gute Erklärung.
Can i ask why at 23:50, the altitude instrument drops from 5200, to 4600 suddenly?
If thats what that reading is? (Nervous flyer here just trying to reassure myself and get over the new fear of flying i have for a flight i may be going on in august!)
Thanks for watching and your question. You hear the pilot flying calling "set standard". That means the altimeter settings are changed from the local setting to the standard setting which we use enroute. Subsequently you see that altitude drop on the altimeter. There is a pre defined transition altitude at which we do this change. At this day, the local pressure was with 1038 hpa very high. Standard altimeter setting is 1013.2. So the change at the transition altitude was higher than usual. There is no reason for fear of flying. It is very very safe. Driving in car is way more dangerous than flying in an Airbus A320. I wish you always relaxed flights.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Thank you for the response, thats very much appreciated! Also great information.
I was fine until I was around 18 (10 years ago) then ive been twice since due to being worried. I know all the stats, but my brain tells me otherwise, so im currently doing quite alot of reading / watching / hypnotherapy to get over my fear.
I feel like I would be fine if I could sit in the cockpit with the pilots, so im just unsure why im so worried. I hope I can sort it out though, but again, thank you so much for the response and the kind words.
@@jackse82 I am sorry about your current fearful situation and wish you a timely improvement. I am sure that a better understanding about what happens during the flight will improve your situation. All the best to you!
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Im sure it will, thats what im hoping for anyway!
I appreciate you taking the time out to reply though, and thank you again for the kind words! All the best to you too
How just wanted to ask you about that full flight video again
I would love to do a full flight video. I will keep your suggestion in mind. But before I record a full flight video, I have to solve some technical challenges. Have a nice day. And please stay tuned.
thank you for youre quick answer and i wish you a nice day too
What factors decide whether you leave packs on or off for takeoff?
Usually we takeoff with packs off. In very warm, humid or similar conditions, we may takeoff with packs on.
Thanks
Beautiful video as always. Love watching the procedures.
Many thanks for watching and for your financial support of the channel! Have a wonderful day!
That's great to hear! Thanks for the feedback!
Is it normal for Scottish control to give you a short cut in the routing?
I do not know if they do it every day or every time. But I got shortcuts on this routing more than once. I think it depends on the overall traffic situation and local noise abatement procedures. And we like the shortcuts very much because they reduce the flight time, save fuel and emissions. Have a nice day!
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos thanks for the response. Learning more and more every day from these videos. Keep it up!
does the pilots dont need proper uniforms with stripes and so on? (Sorry for my bad english xD)
Interesting question. We both wear proper uniforms with dress shirts, stripes and a tie. It was a very cold day and so we both opted to wear in addition a pullover which is part of the uniform and provided by the company.
What is papa means?
Could you please provide a timestamp from the location in the video you refer to?
What a long runway taxing?.
Sometimes the taxiing is long, especially when we are parked at one of the most distant parking positions. Please watch my London Heathrow taxi and takeoff video. This is even longer than the taxiing in Manchester.
