in hard mode if you ask the Spider Queen to upgrade little Skul she says something along the lines "You may be little but the power in that head is far too strong for me to upgrade"
Other games' Hardmode: We raised the stats of the mobs and you take double damage.
Some games' Hardmode: Here are challenges you can undertake and penalties you can chose.
Skul's Hardmode: We've just casually added enough shenanigans, stories, items, and new monsters that a certain australian demon lord feels like he's playing Skul DLC, FOR FREE.
It's nice to see you all starry eyed with this new update, Beelz. Great video.

I dont know if you noticed, but the priest girl hero's special ability wasn't just slowing you. It also heals the other heroes standing in it.

Duuude I can't believe they added Traitor Lord to stage 2! Was gonna go in blind and discover everything myself but couldn't turn down the opportunity to watch you play it. I'm glad they didn't just make Hardmode a damage sponge simulator. Totally new enemies, new moves, new map layouts, new items, new systems. Southpaw always go above and beyond. 💜💜

Yeah, mirage/heritage was putting in a lot of work. Also, the dark power that kills the boss at 15% health is a must. He might not have lived long enough otherwise.
Just imagine the amount of damage that you can do with berserker's damage boost as his life gets lower, paired with heart of the ascetic while destroying quints along the run
I just did this, ended up with almost 500 max HP! With relic, so I just needed to enter a room and got a ton of HP back as well. It was so OP I had the dark hero at a sliver... Kingslayer is probabaly worth it

So the hero that "sacrifices" themselves adds a specific effect? The hero with the energy that explodes, the priest with the slowing area, Ninja throws shurikens. Wonder if they all have a specific effect they add to each fight depending on who does the sacrifice.
That seems to be the case so far
The priests wasn't just slowing, it was also healing the others standing in it.
I got my first Darkness 0 win on a pikey dash build :) Incredibly interesting changes together with all the new opponents, deff gonna be playing this a lot

Beelz is one of those adventures who likes to stand and watch the enemies, can you image if your the enemy watching Beelz clapping every time the enemy pulls off a cool move?

They've done an amazing job with the additions to this "dark side of Harmonia" - Very clever enemy ideas, it's hard to make an enemy cool without making it needlessly annoying.
They really analyzed how players sweep through the maps and made just enough changes that things are different without being unfamiliar.
All in all i'm just straight up impressed - it's clearly product made from passion, and i bet the developers had a lot of fun with it too.

Every time I play Skul while watching them, I get something really good to happen. Yesterday I had Act I Fulgent Dawn from the very first shop, and today I just beat not only Joan but I also bonked all 3 phases of Father on my first try!

I am so excited for this update. I'm really happy that they not only added new enemies but they changed the layouts of the maps too. This will really add another layer of freshness to the game with the hard mode having a totally unique feel to the base game. This is epic.

Edit: so I’m halfway through the video so I’ll say my piece that I think so far. I think Yiggy needs a bit more oomph for his fight (maybe add an extra effect for his orb attacks at least). The sisters are nasty, gonna be fun fighting them, and the new enemies look amazing.
Roguelites and roguelites have been one of my favourite types of video games for a long time. Hades, dead cells, returnal. I’ve played many of them. I’ve never beaten them, but I’ve always had fun. But for me, none have been as fun as skul: the hero slayer. I came across skul on gamepass for Xbox in April of this year, and I’m so thankful I went into the game blind. Seeing everything the game had to offer. Every new skull I saw, every new item with their inscriptions, and quintessences. Every enemy and boss. I would always be so excited and exclaim how cool and fun this game was. I played it over and over for a month or two, eventually getting to the fourth boss, but due to exams and other games, I eventually stopped. But due to the nostalgia by simply recommending the game to someone, I picked it up once more, and once again I’m so thankful I did. Not only because I get to experience this amazing game more, but because I found this channel. Seeing your content, seeing how excited you are for each new thing, seeing your love for this game, and how I felt the exact same way, made me fall in love with not only the game more, but with this channel. I was so hyped seeing the new dark mirror update that I decided I needed to beat the game before hard mode came out. And that I did. Just half an hour ago I was able to defeat the first hero with dark alchemist, archdemon quintessence, two ritual staffs, pot of greed, nether mana suppressor, elementals blessing, light spirit Lou, dark spirit shade, fire spirit salamander and earth spirit gnome. At one point I had 1157% magic attack. Oberon run cheating as always. I’m so glad I found this game. I’m so glad I found this channel. Thank you so much for making this wonderful content, as it not only got me to see more skul, but even more roguelites that I’ll hopefully try out soon. I can’t wait to see what more this game has to offer, and what more you do too. Merry Christmas, and have a happy new year!
The fact that you had multiple masterpiece and fairy tail items is so funny. Also I loved the blob enemies and the skull and item select. The quintessence giving you max health when destroyed is pretty cool. Overall pretty nice upgrade.
Considering how short the openings in the new first hero fight are, the counterattack skill seems instrumental for making the most of those attack chances

DUDE!!! That first hero fight was actually insane. And the fact you won with only 1 hp is one of the most anime things I have ever seen.
FYI, 'armor', 'magic tool', 'memorized' in Weapon of Arms curse are not new inscriptions but mistranslated inscriptions. In Korean they are called respectively '무구', '마도구', '암기', which are in English version 'Arms', 'Artifact', and 'Hidden Blade'.

I just did a run myself and got Berserker with the heart and damage Amp dark powers.... was doing a ton of damage!
I feel like some of this was inspired by Dead Cells. The hard mode adding new enemies and stuff is like when you have boss cells active, and the elite enemies having random modifiers just like the elites in dead cells. Great video and I can't wait to see more of this update.

Id love to see a way for you to choose any starter skull through dark quartz, like, the rarer the skull the higher the price. Itd be a nice way to make ppl spend quartz and also a nice way to play skulls youve been craving for a while

Got my first win too with rockstar and damn this game became soooo hard again! It feels so refreshing to see new enemies and that new final boss music made me speechless. Hope you have as much fun with this game as i have had!

Not sure if you noticed, but afterimage was also applying a stack for that 3 hit detonation, I feel like it's gonna be absolutely busted on speed skulls with a lot of extra item attacks, like the shuriken, blood blade etc, triggering it insanely fast. (mummy exploding arrow back in some way? 😂 )

First run had a magical King run. Died on part 2 of the Hero fight. So sick! I don't think I've smiled this much on an update. They seriously did awesome.

the dark hero is symbolic for the first hero anger when his son skul died
FInally beat the normal mode today and immediately rushed to hard mode. Managed to reach the Last Hero with 1 res, but holy shit his second phase is so hard. I got him to like 60% of HP when he annihilated me. And after watching the video I have no idea what I could possibly do agains his other attacks, he has so much moves. I'm barely able to fight the normal version, and this one is a real beast. It's so amazing, how Hard Mode changes the game. Can't wait to reach higher mirror levels.
Now that you've named it "The big fart" you are legally obligated to play the fart sound (you know the one) every time it goes off
i've beated first try, but it was a veeery poweful run. Archlich first stage, then got to level up dark paladin to legendary too.
For the items: fulgent dawn, the ring, the ritual staff, 40% crit rate with the invisible knife and what saved my life was the new ability mechanic that allowed me to heal 10 hp at the end of each room and 30 at the end of each boss. Really believe that if it wasnt for that, i would have lost the run.

I'm still hoping to upgrade little Skul one day for like 200 fragments to be like the picture in the normal ending cutscene but that would just be the icing on the cake.
That Dark Hero fight was fucking crazy. The fact you managed to 1HP the end of that fight was Epic. Well Done Legend!
Well Bloodfest is a buff, it needs to help you a little more to feel truly meaningful so 40% seems ok
Welp a few things i have in mind.
Rock mage should be able to have a orbiting rock shield that you must break before dealing damage
Mushroom Ent needs s little more health (maybe even make him spawn seedlings)
Big shield boy should have an aura that buffs his allies defenses imao
Chonky backhand should stun you
Butler feels underwhelming, maybe give him a chance of parrying?
Sisters little lighting spears could increase to 5, just cuz fuck it xd
Also the dark hero fight reminds me kinda too some Sigma fights lol tho maybe cuz i've been replaying the X saga

I just realized, with the quintessences giving you max hp the hand of glory is way easier to use to it’s full potential. Also you can target specific builds way easier now that item rooms give you a choice and adventurers have a chance to drop their items
Personally my favourite enemy is the Guts guy, rapidfire wrist crossbow,big sword and a trap he fits the bill. And a really cool detail is that the slimes in act 3, well the 2 big slimes count as 6 enemies, as both of them split into 2 small ones. Also I imagine new no damge achievments will exist.

Im happy with how they handled the doggos, you can still hurt them but its only a temporary stun and not death and I appreciate that so much, and them dropping off from the screen gives me Duck Hunt vibes, and its just really cute all around (and a little sad).

getting max health frim Quintessence is really fun!, and now there's value in discarding them when its some of the only options available, thats so awesome.
HOLY SHIT that dark hero fight was amazing, also the differences with OUR hero are so...uncanny, this one is obviously not sick, and also he's not staring at a picture of Skul at the start of the fight, and all the creepy laughs and of course the fact that he decided to partake in the power of the dark quartz, this one def doesnt have a son that he misses.
I wonder what is it thats different about the mirror world?, maybe its that the characters have opposite personalities?, if our hero was an honorable man and a loving father that just wanted to be with his son (and also abhorred the abuse of DQ if i remember right, or atleast did not partake on it at all), maybe mirror hero is just a bloodthirsty racist genocidal warrior that wants power at any cost and thats why this one decided to use the Quarts, or maybe in the mirror world Skul was never born, and without fatherhood to mellow him out he kept on the battle path and thats why he broke the peace treaty in the end. There's so many possibilities!
Despite everything, i still have the extremely misguided hope Skul and his dad could reunite :(, maybe something do to with the mirror magic and one of the Hero's reflections, or maybe if youre able to shatter the Dark Mirror level 9 the reward is that the First Hero skeleton shows up at the castle and chats and spends time with Skul. I just really want them to be able to reunite and be happy.

playing around in the beta at the moment and I think the colored inscriptions are the ones that transform items, sun and moon is colored red and blue on solar sword

After some research, I have concluded some things (Don't read if you want to discover these things for yourself.):
The choice from regular chests also applies to Normal Mode.
The colouration applies to (as far as I can tell) most special inscriptions, including Masterpiece, Sun and Moon, and even a new one called "Sin" (I'll let y'all discover it for yourselves.)
The adventurers' movesets were also modified in Normal Mode, not just in Hard Mode. The Hard Mode addition is only in the other adventurer's extra effect. (Hard Mode might've modified the fourth adventurer fight, though.)
This was not figured out with any practical research, but it looks like that there will be even more enemies on higher Dark Mirror Levels, as there were some enemies in the trailer that I haven't seen anywhere on Level 0.

The explanation for the fireballs in the fourth act (both modes) is that the fire mage adventurer is bombarding the castle to kill you. It mentions it in one of the loading screens.
Do they stop if your Last adventurer fight is the Mage? Since she is ded in that case
