- Little Egg Harbor police released this video from a home doorbell camera showing a resident fending off a pack of dogs that have been terrorizing the neighborhood for months. The dogs were captured shortly after the incident on Monday, Feb. 3, 2020.
Everybody’s gangster until the cops show up.
That was funny that even the dogs stopped when the cops showed up!! They've obviously done this before!!
I many countries, especially Ireland people walk with sticks solely for defense. Too bad it didn't have a sword inside it.

@Hybrid Theory Well I guess you met some bad ones. I own a pit and she is the best dog and my best friend. It's rarely ever the dog. It's the owner. I have also only ever owned pits due to my dad loving them. Never once has an issue.

I walk every day in Carson City, NV and carry a 30" piece of broomstick for protection. On at least 3 occasions I've been attacked by a pack of dogs and managed to beat them back with my stick. I've had several dog owners give me a bunch of flak for carrying the stick!

I admire and respect you for carrying your stick. You may want to drive spike nails through it in several directions to create a mini mace. This is legal and an awesome defensive weapon against dogs. A small wooden baseball bat with the spikes is also very good. Just enough of the point sticking through to cause damage, not enough to kill but an amazing weapon the dogs will remember and won't ever attack you again. Hit them hard enough they will suffer serious injury and die. A sharp nail coming out the end of the bat makes a very effective piercing weapon straight on. I'm an old Marine, self defense is a specialty of mine.

My neighbors have 15 dogs!!! This is what they like to do. We can’t go out walking anymore. We called animal control, they told us they can’t do anything about it because they are fenced in but those dogs do jump over the fence to get out. many people have been chased.

If he took one out of the fight, he only has to contend with two instead of three. I can tell you from personal experience that pacifism while being attacked is as genius as sheep are when wolves attack.

When I was a kid we had a pack of dogs like this in my neighborhood. They would kill people's cats and they killed my neighborhoods dog...I know some of you won't like this but my dad and I hunted them down and killed them. What were we supposed to do? Wait for them to kill a child?

Just in terms of the simple logistics of firing a weapon toward an animal that size, what is technically the backdrop of a shot at that range and leveled to that height, is the ground. The risk if hitting a bystander when firing at something 5 feet in front of you and downward at a 45 degree angle... is virtually nonexistent. People who own a firearm and practice/train gun safety know to be aware of their backdrop. When firing at a short, 4-legged animal, the threat to bystanders is minimal. This also extends to firing on things of any size, but keeping the barrel angled downward and focusing shots on the lower portions of the target's body when possible. Far more realistic to apply this to defending oneself from a dog, big cat, rabid raccoon, or other life-threatening beasties. Shooting is similar to throwing a punch, in that you always want to be thinking also about what is behind your target. These are probably neighborhood dogs with homes out there "wilding", as they used to say.
Attacking dogs are not just "out there wandering" They are the equivilant of gangs, juvenile delinquents. They are looking to attack, sometimes for food but utimately territorial by nature. This man had every right to kill every single one of these dogs, the one he hit in the head so hard backed off after that, hope it dies. The rest slowed the attack but didn't yield the field of battle. Unfortunately our current ACLU laws don't allow you to kill an "innocent animal" You must file a complaint via the police, wait for the court date knowing anything they decide will either take days, or weeks to enforce. In the meantime people get attacked and injured. You can defend yourself against a human "stand your ground laws" (which are flawed on so many levels) but you can't stand your ground with an attacking animal, you must first get bitten then you have a case. Kill the animal and move on, dog doesn't taste bad, I had it in Vietnam. Slow roasted is perfect.

Just got through doing the same with a Dogo Argentino & (his best friend) a large White American Bulldog, just last week in my neighborhood. They were both running amok until I got both of them and took them to their stupid owner.

He's absolutely right about how these dogs change behavior as soon as they gang up- just like people. I've seen them break through fences, kill cats, and attack cars. There was a pit bull and 2 smaller dogs that broke through my neighbors barbwire fence and started attacking all their goats.They pulled one goat through the fence into my yard where they were playing with it while ripping pieces off the goat (it was all bloody and his ear was ripped off). I got in my car with a baseball bat and tried everything I could to get them off but they were unstoppable, I had to literally drive into them and hit them with the bat to get them to leave. Another pack I saw was made up of a gang of 3 "old lady" dogs and they were just as vicious as these big dogs, they killed my neighbors cats and would have killed the cats on my porch if I hadn't gone outside and scared them off. I have other stories of this happening on my mail route (I delivered mail for 5+ years) but you get the point.

The problem is when pitbulls do happen to attack someone, they are able to do much more damage much quicker than others and zone out into killer mode that was purposely bred into them. They are dangerous to have around kids, period. Why take the chance? Get a German Shepherd and know for a fact your kids are safe, even safer with it around.

While I find it hilarious the dogs took off when the cop showed up, this could have been much much worse. I wonder why these dogs went after this man, but ran when the cop came. And I’m sure it’s not because they recognized the cop as law enforcement. Regardless, these dogs could have really hurt this man. I don’t blame the dogs though. The owners are ultimately responsible for the custody and control of these animals.
I like dogs, but when these lovely pets pack up they kill sheep and chickens and they will kill humans as well. I saw a pack of about 20 of these predators in KCMO. They were insane. Scary indeed.

Someone said these dogs have already bit 13 people and keep getting returned to their owner. I'm not sure how accurate that is, but that seems like a massive lawsuit headed toward the city when they actually do massive damage or kill someone.
These dogs might attack small children one day! It happened in a town I used to live at, the owners need to chain their pets, keep them fenced, if not then they should be rounded up and put in an animal shelter, or sadly put down.

My uncle was once hunting in a deer stand many years ago and was trapped by a pack of wild dogs who wanted to eat him. They had grown to a huge pack out in the country and started hunting together. Luckily he had a buddy with him who was hunting squirrel about a mile away, so my uncle waited for him to come looking and had him fire his 22 to scare the dogs away. They told the local sheriff and like 3 weeks later the sheriff sent him pictures from their local paper showing the den they found with 100's of domestic dogs and cat bones, farm animals, you name it. Piles of bones. They actually lived like a wolf pack bringing kills back to share...

One Strong suggestion that some may not believe. Never run Away from dogs chasing you!! Run at them hopefully with a limb, stick, shovel, etc....Dogs instinctually will chase you...by running toward them, this will startle them, especially pit bulls. I grew up around pits that were used for catching Wild Boar. Never ever ever show fear with dogs!!! Just try it in your neighborhood with dogs, you will be surprised. *Note, the reason Dobermans always Run toward you is because they have been bred so much they are Almost blind and can rarely see, only shadows....they are just Curious = )

That guy did EVERYTHING correctly. He took a fighting stance; did NOT turn away from his attackers; his shoulders stayed square to the dogs; and yelled loudly. The stick he was carrying was icing on the cake; but, a gun would have been better just to put those mangy mutts down for good.
