I'm a baby Christian with a skeptic background. Your videos are so awesome. They help to answer so many questions that I have. This one in particular really resonates with me right now. I'm looking to grow in my faith and become more active in my church, but I'm anxious I might muck it up somehow, still being rather ignorant. I suppose I shouldnt let that stop me from pressing on and improving, just like this uncertain time after the Ascension didn't paralyze the apostles.

I lol'd at "Marv". So great, Matt. Keep it up! So much context I would never have found on my own. I'm about to go on a TMBH binge this weekend. Better than Netflix!

Nicely done! I especially appreciate the idea that Peter is doing exactly what Jesus told him to. He is "strengthening his brothers".

I'm new to your UA-cam ministry. I am loving it and learning a lot. I attend Lander Free Church and have heard nothing but positive comments. Ginger N. mentioned your 10 minute Bible hour. I am listening to Acts and getting a lot out of it. I have to throw in here that Jenny and Jared speak highly of you and that means a lot. Keep up this wonderful ministry. You have a new fan!

I found your explination of Peter's interpretation of the Psalms quite helpful because I too, was questioning it's legitimacy... but it's comforting to know that God still uses our best efforts to further His message of hope even when we may misinterpret His plan. Also, it's interesting to note that he turned to casting lots. Boy am I glad we don't have to search for God's will by random chance!

Another great video! Thank you for creating this series. Personally, it's a great help in understanding the scriptures. Others will find this series useful as well, so I'm sharing your videos on our website and Twitter. Keep it up!

Saving Souls with Science I'm really glad this is working for you and I'm thankful that you're willing to pass it along to others. You're comment means a lot, because that's exactly what I'm going for - I want to help people better understand the details and big picture narrative of what the text says.

I really appreciate the observation that we are to think. That is an area where much of mankind (myself included) fail. I try, but thinking is hard...and sometimes requires snacks. Another great episode, Matt :)

I'm on board with this. I believe that our freedom in Christ means we can choose to do pretty much anything that isn't sinful and God will bless it, assuming it doesn't conflict or interfere with HIs overarching plans. For those decisions where there are multiple paths you can take that all seem okay or good or best...go for what you think you should based on the information you've got. He does lead through open and shut doors, too. (Paul discusses open and shut doors a lot, and see Rev. 3:7-13. No need to agonize over whether to have grilled cheese or hamburgers, backgammon or foosball...for sure.) Psalm 1

Okay, I'm pretty late in coming to this series but here us how far I've gotten in one afternoon. I'm hungry now so I'm going to eat. But when I get back, maybe you'll have something for me? Okay... Why is it that the disciples insisted that "There can be only one" anyway? Why didn't they simply add Matthias AND Justus (Barsabbas) and have 13 disciples? In modern day Christianity we're always looking into symbology and numerology. Three, seven, twelve. Aren't these numbers just distractions? Anyway, was the number of disciples (or Apostles) so important that including both would have been bad for the ministry? Great study so far though!

Okay, if I'd watched this earlier I would have seen the answer to my question about v16. But that answer raises another question: 3:57 The reason I used "possibly" in my question is because, while in luke/acts the holy spirit doesn't appear to have turned up yet, in john's gospel jesus is recorded as "breathing" the holy spirit on the twelve before he ascended into heaven. How do you line these things up?
8:37 So you don't think they were trying to ask god to influence the outcome of the lot?

+IamGrimalkin I don't think the event described in John 20 is the full impartation of the Spirit, or Pentecost (which is the clearer of the two events) doesn't make as much sense. It's hard and smart people see it different ways.
There's some great stuff in this discussion thread regarding this issue. hermeneutics.stackexchange.com/questions/241/is-jesus-giving-the-spirit-in-john-2022
I suggest that it's likely they prayed and sought God over the decision, but that hearing nothing specific, they used judgment and did their best. Either way, God certainly seems to have blessed what they did.
Thanks again for the great questions!

Regarding the lot casting: The lot is cast into the lap, but the decision is wholly from the Lord. (Prov. 16:33)

Hilarious-yet very informative...I can't take notes and watch the added "subliminal" messages. 🙀
    From a "Mixed Bag"...
Thanks Pastor Matt. uhh, er - Matt.

Thanks for watching, and for putting up with all of the nonsense I insist on cramming into the frame. I hope the pause button will serve you well as you watch these.
I'm really grateful for you taking a look at this!
