  • Loram Ballast cleaner makes its way north on the River Line. I has been working the line for close to a week, often doing an hour of work every day. This video gives you a close look at how it works, and explains the process. Along with some greats shots of it going under bridges, and backing up. Along with its amazing horn.

This is an awesome video. I'm particularly interested in LORAM "trains", and your presentation is "tops"...especially the action photographed from lineside. Having watched and photographed LORAM operations myself, the audio "portion" of your video is excellent...it absolutely captures the experience as it really is. Great job all the way around. I live on Long Island (NY), and an "ancient" LORAM ballast cleaner (BC8) was employed this past summer to carve-out trenches along the right-of-way for tie replacement (wood-to-concrete). This old machine -- powered by two "loud-'n-proud high-rev" Detroit Diesel engines -- is a sight to behold. Thanks for a great presentation. You got my "thumbs up" 👍

Thanks Railroad Productions. Don’t worry, it will be on the line for a few more days, it’s in the CP 22 siding now.

Seems like a lot of ballast is being discarded???

Are new rocks put down to replace the smaller ones that were removed?

They often will replace the ballast that was removed, sometimes not removing a lot of ballast just debris and dirt, but sometimes do pour new ballast down later.
