It just isn't REO without Gary Richrath - THOSE WERE THE DAYS - since Gary's departure, nothing but sissy love songs & ballads. Richrath, your Da BOMB!!!
I saw this band open for Aerosmith and Duke and the Drivers in 1974 I was 14. it was my 1st concert. so much GREAT music and we & my friends were all Baked ! all of our friends all stood right at the Stage. I'll remember that till I die ! I'm 51 now.
REO played for my older brothers Prom back when no one outside the midwest really knew of them. Lucky b@stard! lol Seen REO six times and each is a treat.
In their early days REO came through Louisiana on a regular basis..they were one tough rock n roll band....Gary was a beast on guitar...then they went commercial and all the chicks were swooning to ballads...this song was when they had balls and were hungry...Great song, bad sound on this video..Gary Richrath was a total beast before he got to far out there.
@Fuktupratbag wow Really Awesome REO Story!!!, The first time I saw REO Speedwagon i was 17 years old(Valencia, Venezuela 1987) and i saw them again when I was 21 years old(Caracas, Venezuela 1992), I have 28 years listening REO Speedwagon wonderful music!!! and now I have 45 years old and i will keep listening REO Speedwagon forever!!!!! ...I had the great honor to meet REO Speedwagon personally in 1992 and really were too kind to me!!!...Keep Rockin'
Wish I have a recording of that day. After the concert, we could NOT hear each other for 2 hours afterwards. And it was an outdoor concert. But since that time. I know with my HD bike what it is to ride the storm out. Sometimes it is so cold near Sturgis I have to tune this song into my head full volume to get back home again. Here in Wyoming. Howdy! from Brokenwing
They have always been my favorite "feel good band",meaning that I love how the lead singer Kevin always gets you into the meaning of the songs as they start and he always has a way of doing that and getting the audience involved :-)I ave seen them 3 times,and each time they are better :-)Fantastic band!!!!!!!!Thanks for posting :-)
Awesome song! I love it that Kevin wasn't the original singer of the band, he was the second. The third singer, hired right after REO T.W.O., did the original recording of this song. But Kevin was with the band when the song was written. I would love to hear the original recording with Kevin on lead vocals. They must exist!!!
@brokenwingb4 I have a copy of this show in CD, 8-track and cassette, it was a radio broadcast and it WAS NOT outside. This is McNichols arena in Denver from Summer of 1981..........
Yeah!!! fightlol4, i think i'm so lucky to going to five REO Speedwagon Show in our country Venezuela!!!, and can be able to see the old REO Speedwagon in 1987!!!, and the new REO Speedwagon in 1992!!!, and i meeting with REO Speedwagon after The Show!!!WOW!!! Yeah i think you're right!!! I am so lucky!!!... but you are so lucky too!!! REO Speedwagon Keep Playing every year in USA!!!
The guitar that Gary is using is a custom made double cut with 59 Les Paul specs....it was made by the Worthington guitar company.......I've only seen one in my life besides Gary's here.
@papersun7 I agree with you because thanks to Dave and Bryan, and of course Kevin, Neal, and Bruce we can still enjoy this wonderful music of REO Speedwagon!!!, I think them came at an important time when no one knew the fate of the band and them forged their own destination with the band, and thanks to them, and all who have been part of REO Speedwagon since its founding until today!!! is that we can celebrate 44 years of artistic career of the best Rock & Roll band in the world for me!!!!!
@brokenwingb4 Sorry, NOT the introductory song, that was Dont let Him Go. This song was what they ended the night with and left the stage (watch the video) before the encores of Golden Country and then shakin it loose. REO didnt open with Ridin until the late 90's This was from Denver, 1981 and was broadcast live on the radio.
@brokenwingb4 Sorry, you were not at THIS concert if you think this was the opening song. They ended the night (watch the video) and then came out for the encores of Golden Country and Shakin in Loose. REO did not open with Ridin until late 90's or early 2000's
I was at the concert with my boyfriend and when they started this sone up as I remember it was the introductory song we looked at each other and screamed to the top of our lungs and you couldn't hear anything but the start of this song. I later married a hippie man who was on the top of the bleachers at this concert. I didn't know him and he didn't know me. And we had a red haired son. Ain't the funny? and a gorgeous daughter full of the devil herself like her mom. She's my best friend.
@theamazingspideebabe That good always to listening a song, also heard of a basketball team that always put this song before the game and apparently gives very lucky to win many games in a row!!!... I love this song and here we have a drought of more than a year, few days it has rained in Venezuela this year and last, and just when I'm approving your comment to start a storm in Caracas!!! I think is my lucky song also!!
@vagonveloz its funny you say you saw them in 1992 when your were 21.... 92' was when i was born i never got to experience great music like this live your pretty lucky
@randlbp WOW!!! Gary Richrath!!! still playing there are some videos from when he played with his band in the 90's, called Richrath!!! and this year he returned to appear in public playing with another band is the last time I've seen of him...there is great expectation for the next year is to celebrate the 30 anniversary of the great success of the album Hi Infidelity!!!, which was recorded 30 years ago!!!
@ExDemocrat64 While I agree with your analysis of "hit singles", and I am actually a big fan of Gary's, I think you should give Dave Amato a little slack here. He has been with REO for quite awhile, and has written some pretty good stuff as well. Someone has to fill Gary's place in the band, and I think Dave does more than an admirable job. PS. Glad your an "ex"....
Love REO, have seen them several times, they do a great live show. It is unfortunate that the fans have not totally forgiven Kevin Cronin for parting ways with Gary Richrath. The new guy from Ted Nugent is a great player and does a great job, but I think fans would come out in droves if they would bring back Richrath.
@warbirdtim Yes, but by kicking Gary out, Cronin cured the headache by cutting off the head!!! Gary wrote ALOT of REO's biggest hits, Dave Amato - not a single one in over 20 years.
@warbirdtim I agree with you that Gary!!! should be on tour with REO Speedwagon!!! coming soon or next year to celebrate the 30th anniversary's Hi infidelity great success!!!
Thanks everybody for your comments and please visit my channel where you will find new and old videos of the best Rock & Roll band in the world for me!!!
Its too bad you didnt get to see them in 70 or 71 at a high school sock hop for $1.50.........before Cronin got there to mess them up...then they were monsters
@songbirdofna1 I have 16 versions of this awesome song on my channel!!! please keep in touch and Ridin' The Storm Out (Irene) too!!! god bless to everybody who Ridin' The Storm Out at this weekend!!!
@papersun7 Your right papersun, Dave is not the one at fault -" I JUST MISS REO THE WAY IT WAS" - Uhh, how many albums have hit the charts Kevin since you kicked out Gary? Uhh, how many top 40 hits have there been since Gary? Kicking Gary out was the "worst" thing you could have done Cronin!!! Again, no disrespect towards Dave, - I JUST MISS THE WAY IT WAS!!!
@warbirdtim Well, it just wasn't substance abuse problems. Richrath was also pretty vociferous about the band softening up for albums like Hi-infidelity and Cronin, who is, let's face it, a major douchebag, wasn't about to let Richrath win that power struggle because wimping out proved to be too lucrative. I have to confess that while I love this particular song of theirs, the one time I saw them (as an opening act for the Ted Nugent/Lynyrd Skynyrd tour) they didn't do much for me.
It just isn't REO without Gary Richrath - THOSE WERE THE DAYS - since Gary's departure, nothing but sissy love songs & ballads. Richrath, your Da BOMB!!!

This was our bar band in the early 70's in Peoria......
OMG I am old enough to, but never got to see REO in the heyday. Seeing Gary in action here is.. mind melting!
I was at this show and these guys were rockin' their hearts out like always. That arena isn't there anymore. Saw alot of great rock n roll there.
I LOVE this Reo Speedwagon line up!!! Gary Richrath on lead guitar!! Woot
My husband and I watched their concert @ Durham Fair in Connecticut a couple hours ago... REO SPEEDWAGON ROCKS....yeah!!! o",)
This is just an awsome rockout! Thank you soo much!

Gary is Top 10!
Riding Hurricane Irene out 2011....Great song for the moment!
This song was written about a hike they did in Colorado (supposedly in the Flatirons near Boulder) and they got caught in a storm.....!
The guitar that Gary is using is a custom made double cut with 59 Les Paul specs....it was made by the Worthington guitar company.......I've only seen one in my life besides Gary's here.
So many times in Monroe---rockin!! Richrath RULED!
OMG!! Richrath Rules!!!
@BicPentameter if memory serves, it's a Hamer guitar. They were very popular in the early 80s.
THIS IS MY FAV REO !!!
YES YES------------ HELL YES 11111111111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love all of REO also without exception but my favorite has to be time for me fly. It has some good thoughts going with it.
I was 12 and saw them on the HIGH INFIDELITY (last good disk they have made, last one w/ Gary!) Toure. It was pretty AWESOME
@brokenwingb4

SOUNDS COOL AND WISH I HAD BEEN THERE...LOL
I remember being at this show
@brokenwingb4

This was shot in the middle of the Hi Infidelity mania of the early 1980's and they were just getting started.
1980 only REO

@BicPentameter looks like a Hammer
I'm Jealous, I was 14 in 74 and I couldn't afford concert tickets! I did see alice cooper in 1976 at Cobo Hall though so...
Its too bad you didnt get to see them in 70 or 71 at a high school sock hop for $1.50.........before Cronin got there to mess them up...then they were monsters
@gregcyber That's because all we did back in the day, was drink and smoke dope, party, party, party. No time for food and getting fat.....:o)
