The fact that canonically Neo Metal would beat the edgyness out of exe makes this more of a boss theme rather than solo theme
It's a solo theme because Neo Metal is about to solo that loathsome copy of a loathsome copy.
Canonically most of the sonic cast would beat exe.

Someone you need the power of friendship AND the emeralds to beat. So one guy with reality warping just won't cut it with Neo.
In other words, .exe COULD fight the others because of Sonic's own sheer power, but against Neo Metal Sonic, who's an upgrade of an equal... he stands no chance.

edit: who else thinks they should add a game mode where you can play as neo metal? i imagine he would be like an exe on your team, he can't die (or at least it's difficult to kill him) and is only meant to fight exe 1 on 1. he can't escape, because that's not the point, he's just meant to body guard his team.
Beat him down hard enough and he just turns Overlord and squishes EXE, so EXE has to balance fending off Neo and hunting the other Survivors. Focus on the Survivors too hard and Neo slaps you silly, but focus on Neo too hard and Overlord chomps you

Why do I feel like neo metal would be such a cool character mechanic like if the exe destroys the exit and prevents there escape a chaos emerald goes onto the map and a new timer starts for a eggman exacuation team to arrive and it’s just survive till the team arrives and any chatter that gets the emerald gets a special ability while if either shadow or metal get it they gain a new set of ability’s and metal transforms into neo metal and honestly that would make things even better cuz there’s nothing like a spark of hope and such a dire situation
I'm guessing shadow would have access to his chaos abilities and chaos blast he could pull a Majin Vegeta and take exe out with himself to save everyone?

I imagine if Neo Metal was an actual character, he'd just be walking and his core would flame up when he sprints, causing him to fly mid air from his back, his abilities would probably consist of something like his push now being upgraded to him grabbing EXE and being able to fly and move extremely fast around for 7 seconds, dragging EXE on the ground, before slamming him into the ground and stunning him.
Grapple would be infused with energy and would allow him to grapple onto surfaces, if the EXE is hit, it'll stun and knockback the EXE or whatever.
Self Destruct would be a quick radiation type burst of energy start explodes a radius around Neo, if nothing is hit, he is stunned and takes damage, if something is hit, what is hit is knocked back and stunned for a decent time.

I don't know why I came up with an idea to include Neo metal Sonic and his map is going to be centered on the master emerald and there would be knuckles, tails, eggman, and metal would be dead
(If this was in-game, a cutscene would play once metal goes solo. Would only trigger if metal pushed and grappled the exe enough times)

Coming back with a classic, love the idea for a v2 of metal sonic's theme is just neo metal sonic, surprised that they haven't done that in game (maybe they have idk, never played the games and don't really plan to, just here for the music), excited as hell for the shadow theme and praying silently for knuckles to be next.
