20 years on, dan's a prolific songwriter and lyricist, but when this came out, we all knew it was great, but this is also the particular kind of album that gets better with time and more and more listens. the songcraft is brilliant, not overwrought, contrived, or heavy-handed, it's just perfect.
This is soldier rock. Sometimes when you come back from seriously devastating action, you can't even put words together, but you have the overall sense of it. Blues is the same way. When a woman breaks your heart and leaves with your children and all your memories, you sit alone in a room and try to remember some of the cords and progressions you once knew, and since you can't remember, you make strange new ones, and that's blues.

Still love this shit cuz it's my core values all wrapped up in a world of chaos. Been nine months since my last comment. Yet I'm stronger now than I was a Year ago now. More resilient and tougher heart but forgiving and understanding. Learning to accept others and smile and offer them my help. When I began listening to this album? I was deep in alcoholism cuz my wife cheated on me and I knew. But had no proof until Xmas ever 2019 when I borrowed her phone to call my brother. Busted. Learned right then and there what she did for two years behind my back. Ended it and paid for the repercussions going on six years now. But I'm better off now. Thank you black keys for giving me hope and keeping my hopes alive through your music. God bless y'all and everyone all over the world. Amen.🙏💖
Ahh. The good old days. Saw them for the first time shortly after this was released at the old Rosebud in Pittsburgh. They opened with Thickfreakness and was immediately their biggest fan. Between Dan's voice/gtr tone and HOLY SHIT Pat was a fucking beast that night. They then played the best fucking show I've ever been witness to at the now exalted Valentine's Day Massacre the 31 st Pub months later. Where does the time go?
Hands down in my top 10 albums!!! The first Keys album I bought that started a love affair that sadly ended when Brothers was released! However, our relationship was rekindled when Let's Rock was released. As much I enjoyed El Camino & Turn Blue, my trust had been shattered and needed to to be rebuilt. We're still happily together - Dropout Boogie 2022 x
Track two really rocks , sounds like some of the local bands where I'm from here in Mississippi but the first time I heard this album I sent track two to my soon to be exgirlfriend
I remember hearing about The Black Keys in 2007. They had a show in Portland Maine, and I was like fuck this main stream band, you couldn't pay me to go to their show...and then I listened to Thickfreakness....and they have been my favorite 2 piece ever since
Drove a long distance to get this album when it first came out because I’d heard “Set You Free” somehow somewhere. I exposed my shitty little culture void town to so much good music. I was a teenage street dj. Should’ve done something with that skill besides writing music for myself because I’m poor. But, maybe I did the exact right thing and just don’t fully realize it yet.
Este es a mí gusto el mejor disco de la banda le pongo un 6 aceptable...el resto de la epoca rock blues un tanto + monótono y luego ya la época + pop ya tampoco me gusta tanto

The best album of The Black Keys, I love this masterpiece.
Y desde el 1ro año 2002 hasta el EP Chulahoma de 2006 está todo joya..
high praise, but, it's justified...😊
Blues rock masters!!!!😎
The pick ups on that guitar - the way they capture the sound of the pick dragging across the strings is just straight fire.
maybe "hotrails" pickups
I saw these guys on Conan O'Brien 18 years ago and told all my friends...next thing I knew everyone was listening to them. Truly unique band.
Conan KNOWS, man
Remember the first time my friend played me this when it came out. Loved it instantly... Then went and bought my own copy. Good old days.
Absolutely 110/100 who needs manufactured bands? Keep at it guys.

Such a badazz album from one of my favorite bands 😁 💙🖤

I had a bootleg copy of this on CD from a guy that was from Akron. A crackhead stole that CD case in Killeen, TX. But I did see them live in ATL.

The band sounds like late 60s music, and I like that about the band's sound in individual songs. Was that the intention?
