  • Hey y'all, been a while.. why don't you sit down and have some lunch with me? Let me tell you why I'm excited about this new series..
My name is Andy and I was born Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing and unable to speak, so sign language is my native language. I do music covers in American Sign Language (ASL), as well as tutorials and other fun series incorporating ASL! Sign Language allows a different perspective and experience in music, it truly shows the emotions and concepts behind the songs' meanings.

I’ll be honest it was a “culture shock” coming to college just in the food realm alone. All my friends go out to eat together to socialize.
Made me realize how vital food/eating is in our social world, so I figured exposing folks to how I eat will help “normalize” and bring those like me into these social experiences with ease and less fear.
Also if you’re g-tube dependent hi!!! Nice to meet you! What’s been your experiences?
(Also check out Aaron Loggins. Amazing influential leader in the Deaf community! My shirt is from him!)

You missed an opportunity to call this a mukbang tube lunch. Heehee
I've been wondering how you were doing. Glad to see you back. I never thought about how isolating mealtime can be in terms of socializing. That's why these videos are needed. Thank you.

I like this series. I have never sat eating with someone with a g tube before, so here are my thoughts you asked for, how do i feel.
I would say the uncomfortable factor for me is on two topics,
    - firstly any medical thing like a hole and tube makes me think of pain and so i flinch a little. Even if i know you're not hurting from it, i can't stop associating the things. Hole, tube, pain, injury.
    - i am a food addict, i don't eat to live, i live to eat. I'm not proud but that's the truth. So, for me this looks like deprivation because i would freak out without my "mouth feeding fix". I guess you probably never got attached to mouth feeding in the first place so you don't care a bit, but to me it looks sad not having things to chew, colorful shapes to look at, the traditional experience i have for my eating.
I hope that made sense, and i can't wait for another episode so i can get used to this more.

Hi Andy! I found your channel because I watched the video that you and your brother did with the guy from "Special Books by Special Kids". I thought that interview was really good. I also watched your Ted Talk. It was good too. I am "Hearing" and I know a lot of ASL signs, and can communicate very slowly with people who are in the Deaf community. Thank you for sharing this video with us, and showing us how you eat with the G-tube. I have a friend who has a daughter who uses one, but I have never seen the process before. This was very interesting and educational. I like learning about people who do things differently than I do. I have a friend who, at the age of 6 years old, "lost" both of his legs due to getting hit by a semi truck. He has to do things differently than people who have legs. My father's eyesight isn't good enough for him to drive a car, so he has to either use other modes of transportation, or get a ride from someone. It's good for people to learn about others. Thanks again, and have a good day!

Me. A, Thank you so much for opening people's eyes and showing everyone that although people are different, we are the same as everyone else. I personally don't know anyone with a g-tube on a regular basis but had a friend that suffered a traumatic brain injury and had a g-tube for over a year but has since made a fantastic recovery as to his daily needs. I hope this video will help those that feel they have to hide away just to eat is no longer necessary. I would welcome anyone that eats differently to join me at anytime. Again, thank you and keep the videos coming............. Just Me

Great idea, it was a pleasure to feel your openess in chatting over a meal with us, such a warm and brilliantly 'direct action' way to nurture fast change in society. After the first few seconds, its not strange anymore, and was totally caught up in what you had to say, as usual. Im deeply inspired by your example. It breaks my heart to think anyone would have to hide how they eat, miss that togetherness with people. It can be that way for alot of different reasons, and the isolations really saddening. Your smart determined friendlieness is worth more than gold. Thanks for sharing!!

Thank you for sharing this with us. I'm a boy from Germany who has never seen anyone eating with that G-Tube before in my entire life. I completely agree with you that it is important to make people see how eating with a G-Tube looks like. My honest first reaction was to be scared. For me any kind of tube or something which opens up our organs seems so unnatural and painful. I feel ashamed of reacting like that to something people like you have to use in their normal life. That's why I think it's a great idea to post videos like this. Your videos makes people like me get in contact with such kind of devices. After I saw you eating with your G-Tube it made me comfortable with it. Thank you very much and keep on with that content!

Hey Andy, I'm a little late to this video (three years late lol) but I am entirely G-Tube fed and I love that you put content like this on UA-cam to make people who are G-Tube fed and people with disabilities feel more normal. Like you, I was super insecure about the way I ate. In high school I would eat in a little room in the attendance office. But now I've started eating with everyone else and I've discovered that people don't really care. Everyone's busy eating their own food anyways. Hopefully a youngster with a G-Tube sees this video and it makes them feel more comfortable with theirselves because, as you said, we're just eating to live, like everyone else. I'd love to see more of these vids!

I used to have a feeding tube. I have Cerebral Palsy and when I was 6 months old, I kept aspirating my food back up so my doctor put one in. I finally got it out when I was 17 years old when I hit 65 pounds. Now I’m 20 and I felt awkward and embarrassed by it but no one made fun of me but little kids gave me dirty looks but other than that I was comfortable having it.

If your sitting with friends no one should be uncomfortable or they aren’t your friends.
Also If someone has a problem with someone eating this way and socializing they should leave NOT YOU. They are the one who’s got the problem! Not you!!! Don’t let anyone tell you any different! You be you and if someone doesn’t like it they can piss off. :)
Like I hear young girls omg what if someone hears me in the bathroom and I’m thinking if someone comes in an has an issue with your sounds they need help not you lol

Hi Andi! Nice to have you back! Great video and brilliant idea! My questions:
    - I liked that you made the video completely silent! So I wondered why you ran music during the filling up, shaking and hooking up of G-tube?
    - You can drink water, can you drink a little food - just to know what it tastes like?
    - Does a one-handed version of ASL really exist?
    - Have you heard that SBSK had their comments disabled on all videos? They are running a petition to reinstate comments again. Here's the link to their latest video explaining the situation:
    ua-cam.com/video/oAEOnW25jNE/v-deo.html
Kind regards! Take your time - college comes first!

Thank you, but I wanted no sound because that’s the authentic Deaf experience. Besides it’s hard to hear my voice in a cafeteria environment, and when I sign and speak that’s when I slip out of using ASL

Great video! I have been wanting to find an engaging channel to keep up my ASL skills and this is perfect. I have a question about eating by tube. Do you think it is easier to eat healthy this way? Eating healthy by mouth can be such a struggle because junk food tastes better. Since taste isn't a factor for tubes, does that make getting healthy nutrition more of a no-brainer? Or is it harder, since it's liquid? Maybe you can talk about the nutrition aspect in your next video?

    HI! From sbsk.
You should invent a gtube holder so u can utilize both hands! Honestly this didn’t bother me. What does bother me is your extremely busy schedule hehe. Is there enough hours in the day! Cool video thank you!

I know this might sound stupid Andy but do you feel satisfied and full after you eat with a g-tube? I don’t know anyone with one and I am curious. Oh and what happened to the great HAIR!!! 😫
