    Fun Fact:
Closely related species look more similar to one another when they’re developing than when they’re fully grown.
You can look at the fetuses of various pronates and I’m pretty sure you won’t be able to tell the difference.
With this in mind, I suspect comparing the first forms of Pokémon to be a more accurate tool than what you’ve been doing.

actually tho, by that logic, we would assume that fish are close relatives to tigers which they aren't. if you looked at them when they're fully developed, tigers are obviously more closely related to say bears than fish. you wouldn't assume that carvanha is more closely related to litten than cubchoo because they both have big eyes, black and red areas, and sharp teeth. you would assume beartic and incineroar are more closely related to each other than sharpedo because they have limbs.

There's a problem with this. Pokemon appear to regularly add or remove stages to their lines. A good example is the Rhynido branch. The Rhyperior line has two bipedal forms and a quadrupedal form whereas the Nidos have two quadrupeds and a biped. Also, Rhydon corresponds to the final stage of the Nidos but it's only a second stage. So, at some point either Rhyhorn lost its first stage or Nidorin@ gained a new first stage and Rhydon gained a new third evolution.

I would add a type 4 in which the Pokémon evolve and reproduce on their own and have ghost-like abilities but, unlike Type 3, they are "born dead" for lack of a better phrase and therefore unable to produce a ghost, but they also aren't the result of a possession or the death of a human or Pokémon like Yamasks and maybe Gengars are. These types specifically seem easily able to go back and forth, to and from the spirit world, too (so they're not escapees from it). As examples, Misdreavus, Mismagius, and the Duskull line come to mind among others, especially because they don't seem to need to possess anything in particular or have something die to manifest, thus lacking corporeal "bodies" that can perish in the traditional sense, but they still seem to have somehow evolved into existence on their own. Their natural state seems to be that of pure spirit.

i have a suggestion. Why no put drifloon, chandelure, mismagius, hatterene and other jellyfish - like pokemon into a jellyfish category?. They could be a terrestrial variety that evolved to produce gas to float in the air (if not by any infinity energy related means) this category could contain jellicent branching of earlier, staying aquatic, while the rest developed to live in land and to fly (or float). i think it would be a nice way to tie them together, being jellicent of the ghost type and other ghost pokemon just being heads with tentacles coming out of them.

I know this is an odd one, but I figured I'd throw it out there: what if, similarly to how there are sentient mineral Pokemon, what if the Gengar line is more of a sentient natural gas? I don't know if they would have either came to life due to the ghost infinity energy or maybe in a similar way to mineral Pokemon, but you could say that Gastly resulted from natural gas and as it evolves it gains a more condensed form and a body. You could even say that is why the line can become intangible: it is simply becoming a less condensed form of gas so things pass through them and they can turn invisible. This would put it somewhere on the alien/mineral part of the tree.
P.s. thank you Toby for acknowledging the Dragapult situation! I was the one who made the original comment you responded to and it made my day to see you respond!

    • @SeventeenGhost
      @SeventeenGhost 4 роки тому +7

I was thinking the same! And it can actually apply to some other pokemon. Rotom is plasma, plasma is super heated gas. Dusknoir's mouth is a black hole, and black holes are formed when a massive star explodes, what are stars? Balls of gas.
Also, being that gas is the most malleable state of matter, some other ghost-types can also be classified as gas, and further sub-classified. Mimikyu's "hand" can stretch a lot more than a solid that fits under that blanket should. So, the "inner" Mimikyu is a gas, possessing something. As Toby said, we would need more info about Mimikyu to properly sub-classify it, BUT then we have the Rotom forms: A gas possessing man-made objects. Then we have the Cofagrigus and Trevenant, for example, we can see their "gassy" parts controlling an object. I'm not sure if Polteageist counts, as it's supposed to be liquid? But I think it also applies. Maybe have ghost pokemon divided into "gas (and gas possessing stuff)" and "stuff being possessed by ghost energy"? So pokemon like Aegislash would stay with the man-made pokemon, but on a special sub-branch of "possessed object", just like now Trevenant, Gourgeist and Delmise are a sub-branch of plant?
Honestly it's really hard to classify this, but the gas part feels like it's totally on the right track, at least for the Gengar line it feels the most accurate.

I don't think ghost type infinity energy is literally related to death. The names of the types aren't always one to one, and if we look at arceus and the creation trio, we might get a better idea of what the types actually mean. Arceus shows that normal Is simultaneously every type, and no type. Moves like hyperbeam and tri-attack would be ones that combine energies, while tackle uses little to none. The other three show that dragon is probably raw, unrefined infinity energy, considering they are basically gods, and needed the raw power to create the world. And giratina's ghost typing, suggests that ghost deals more with dimensional shenanigans. That's why ghosts seem ethereal, because they can move across the 4th dimension, that we can't comprehend.

@@awesomesofar5963 when the pokedex entries for palkia mention that it lives in another dimension, it's using the word "dimension" when it should be saying "universe". That's one of my personal pet peeves in fiction. There's no such thing as an "alternate dimension" you can only be on a different location on a dimension. Like left and right is x, up and down is y, and forward and backwards are z, the three dimension that us as humans can comprehend. And when I say giratina and other ghosts move across the 4th dimension, I mean they are moving in a direction that we can't comprehend, or reach. In Pokemon platinum, when you enter the distortion world, I'm willing to bet that you are being forced across the 4th dimension. So palkia can control space and travel between alternate universes. Which in Pokemon canon seems to be different than alternate timelines. So palkia probably spends most of it's time somewhere in ultra space. The space between spaces.

as somebody said in the comments of the last tree of life video, i personally think it comes down to a case by case basis. with some pokemon it’s obvious that they just... ghosts. they’re spirits. what they were before when they were alive would be the question with them, as for others it’s clear that they are undead.. ish. either they came back to life or something like that. with some of the pokemon you put into the “man made” category (like aegislash) do we count the ghost of the pokemon or do we just count to sword and shield? is there even a right answer to that? it in my opinion definitely depends on the pokemon we’re talking about, and we would probably have to go into the inspirations of some pokemon in order to explain some of them. good video! can’t wait for the theory about the last one there 👀

Below are some of my thoughts and ideas about this video.
    1) I can get behind Aegislash, its evolution line, as well as Shuppet and Banette being placed with the man-made Pokémon section of the Evolution Tree. The Aegislash evolution line are possessed weapons, while Shuppet and Banette are possessed dolls, puppets, and marionettes.
Mimikyu, however, I believe may go into the Fairy section. It wears the disguise, but in the anime we see that Mimikyu's true self is a dark, amorphous blob. I would like to ask, just in case, whether Mimikyu may qualify as a seelie fairy, an unseelie fairy, or a yokai.
    2) As for Drifblim and Chandelure, and by proxy their evolution lines, could they be a type of mimic like in D&D and medieval fantasy? Meaning that they would be placed either with Electrode or Amoonguss? Perhaps they use a predatory form of camouflage?
    3) Is it possible that if the Dex entries are incredulous tales, that Spiritomb could fall under the mineral section of the Tree since the Pokémon comes out of the Odd Keystone?
    4) I agree with placing Mismagius in the Fairy branch next to Hatterene. You made a good, clever point.
    5) The Gengar line could be a gas-related Pokémon. Although, you pointing out the theory that Gastly and Cloyster are related reminded me that when either regional variant of Slowpoke is bitten by Shellder, poisons are secreted. With the Galarian variants in particular, Galarian Slowpoke gains the Poison typing, which becomes its primary typing rather than its secondary typing. With Galarian Slowking, it is possible, or at least probable, that Shellder is possessing the newly-evolved Slowking like a puppet king. I don't know if that means that the Gastly/Cloyster connection theory has more solid ground to stand on, but it was something that came to mind when you brought them up.
    6) I have no idea where I would put Rotom or the Dusknoir evolution line. I am, however, interested in your upcoming Dusknoir theory video.

I dont know if this is something thats been considered, but using real world hypotheses about ghosts from a more scientific position, its been suggested that haunted places are simply areas where people have died and the electrical current that flows through the body gets kinda stuck. Evolutionary wise I would say that means ghost pokemon are objects that have accidently absorebed this current, and things like Dehlmise can be placed on the plant branch, but inanimate objects didnt actually evolve at all, but literally just appeared one day. Whether that be one object forever ago that has then branched off into all the others, or they all just appeared on their own separate of each other would be up to the experts, lol

Saying that none of the ghost types are actual ghosts and instead just evolved from other things just... doesn't make sense to me. Yes, the older Pokedexes were wrong a lot but I think there has been less embellishment overtime. The Yamask lines, Gengar, and Dusknoir are 100% dead things.
Also the anime isn't canon, it's referenced in the main series sometimes but just because in an older episode ash became a ghost that doesn't mean ghost Pokémon aren't dead things.

      need help with reporting them.
UA-cam is in a bad state and i think you heard of that.
Many complain about it, its strike-system and its CEO: Susan.
But... I mean... complaining about the State of the world is nice
and dandy, but... how about acting? Doing something?
So i made a Wiki where i store Links for all to use.
You can at least pre-emptive 'block user' regarding the
Racists and all those, but you can also
do one thing more and report them, so
      YT becomes a better place.
I know this was random and also overly summarized, but
think about it and consider. You can make a difference.
Sorry this was so Random, but can you consider acting?

I personally disagree with where you put mimikyu. Unlike the others that you mentioned, mimikyu isn't possessing it's disguise and is merely hiding behind it. So the question becomes: what is hiding beneath mimikyu's disguise? Personally I would think about placing it with some other fairy/spirit like pokémon, but definitely not with the man-made ones! (I know you mentioned this bit I still think that it should be moved. I know the pokedex isn't always true, but I do agree. We know that mimikyu can exist without the pikachu disguise, and it also makes sense to me that it would disguise as a pikachu in order to get people to like it, as this is something that real life animals evolve to do, so we know it's possible.

This is probably a stretch, but I have an idea about the Gengar line. Kanto has the most poison Pokemon by far, as well as a history of pollution and abandoned human structures. What if Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar are some combination of the pollutants of the region combined with Ghost type infinity energy. Possibly filling an ecological niche as there are no other ghost types in the region, as well as possibly cleaning the area?

  • @GigaTurtle
    @GigaTurtle 4 роки тому +1

    Rotom Theory:
Rotom is Electricity infused with Infinity Energy brought about by man-kinds ever growing power consumption along with his ability to be used as a "power source" for most appliances. When we first see Rotom it comes from a CRT (cathode-ray tube) television which in its name has a tube inside of it much like a light bulb. In Galar when you use the Rotom Catalog to revert Rotom back to his original form it shows that you do so by using a light bulb. Out side of the Old Chateau the only place you see wild Rotom is in Galar, the Region that is so energy dependent that Chairman Ross resurrects Eternatus to use it's Infinity Energy or it's life force as an unlimited source of power to curb man's ever nearing energy crisis. As the newer generations take place further down the time line regions grow and produce/consume more power and such more Rotom have begun to appear. Due to Rotoms ability to interact with electronics he/it is widely sought after being implemented into PCs, Pokedexes, and Smartphones. Even seeing other regions that do not naturally have rotom in the wild such as Alola import Rotom for day to day use.
But how did Electricity become infused with Infinity Energy the life force of all Pokemon...? Well, we already have a Pokemon that can travel between the physical world and the digital one. Porygon, after a few years he got an upgrade to Porygon2. As man expands their knowledge they need a Pokemon that can process more power and try to upgrade Porygon again into Porygon3, but something goes wrong with the upgrade (in the name "dubious disc") so man seeks to create a new Pokemon, one that can handle modern technology more efficiently.

I think Sinistea and Polteageist are based on the Japanese folklore that once an item has become over 100 years old or somewhere around that number (like an old teapot for example), it basically creates a spirit of itself. It sort of comes to life as a spirit even though it’s an inanimate object.

Mimikyu is explicitly a spooky fae creature wearing a costume, not a possessed costume, since i believe the sun and moon games mention that mimikyu dressing up like pikachu is a fairly recent development for the species and in the anime we see mimikyu changing costumes while still being fundamentally the same creature, so it would fit in the same category as other fairies

Rotom is interesting, because it was first discovered in the Old Château, and there was only one. Plus, the only other occupants of the house are human ghosts, leading me to believe that it's either a ghost of a person that got killed by electrocution, or was an experiment with electricity that led to an EMP that killed the other residents of the Old Château. In either case, it is man-made - its just whether its a dead person or a new life form

Gengar maybe it's a doppelganger of Clefable from another dimension Maybe the Ghost World if we think that exists or Distortion World? (making it a negative spirit).
Rotom: Plasma is one of the four fundamental states of matter Plasma can be artificially generated by heating a neutral gas or subjecting it to a strong electromagnetic field.

We've seen Mimikyu in the anime showing the fact that its mishmash of a Pikachu costume is just that a costume. From the want to be looked at and admire by people who love Pikachu.
There was an entire episode from the anime where Jessie's Mimikyu's pikachu outfit had severely damaged and he couldn't wear for most of the episode until Jessie managed to fix it. We even see it take the costume off to take a swim in one of the earlier episodes of Sun and Moon.
As for what Mimikyu is... well it's heavily implied to be some sort of being of eldritch origins. A ghost/fairy creature whose mere appearance will at the very least make you comatose for a while and at worst threaten to kill you. Mainly because its true form is something that human mind cannot fully comprehend.
So if there's any place Mimikyu could be on your tree I'd put it among the extraterrestrials but on a loan branch given its unique origins.

Perhaps the gengar line is a split off of the drifblim/chandelure lineage. If their bodies are held aloft by “spectral gases,” what if a ghastly is just that gas without the skin. Haunted and gengar are after it learned to control the gas more so it can take a more physical looking appearance.
Another option with the same logic would be the gasses of a wheezing without the outer shell.

    @TurtwigChampion 4 роки тому

Personally I like to see the ghost Pokemon as sort of pure life energy that becomes sort of "born" the moment it clumps together and latches onto something and becomes a "living" being. To use Gastly for example, the life energy clings to literal toxins in the air, and or perhaps even negativity itself, and as it condenses and wraps it becomes the spherical body that when it gathers enough of that life energy is "born" into a Gastly. Then as a Gastly it continues to gather more in order to make itself bigger and stronger to become a Haunter, then finally refines and condenses that body down further to become Gengar. Thus they're less "dead" or "ghosts" in the way we usually think, but beings born with powers related to life energy and the spiritual world. It works pretty much for the majority of Pokemon that are ghost typed. They're either born of this life energy, the energy gathering and clinging onto something until enough of this energy "gives life/birth" to a ghost type, or they grow to wield that energy themselves such as Pokemon like Decidueye or Giratina. Think of it like a 3rd form of reproduction. Live birth, cellular division, and in the world of Pokemon life via energy collecting and reacting as it forms together condensing and colliding to create the energy needed to bring about a newly created soul that clings to a nearby acceptable host "body". Ultimately it'd result in them less being directly linked to the other Pokemon and more sort of being created by the fated impacts of collected life energy. A bit like how manmade Pokemon are created by the hands of man, these ghosts are created by natural reactions of particles and energy in the environment and their relations with other objects. Be it the formation of ectoplasm, clinging onto an object, or binding itself to other forms of energy such as electrical plasma.
