I visited Sicily as a solo female traveler in April - May 2013. I planned the trip, rented a car, and spent an entire month. I stayed in some of the very small and amazing towns as well as Palermo, Ortygia and a week in the Aeolian Islands. Visited all the temples and Villa Romana, which was the highlight of all the highlights. I loved the people who were so welcoming and the food and wine was to die for. Absolutely love bella Sicilia!

We agree that Palermo is a gritty city but that is what we loved about it when we visited a few years ago. It did not feel like a tourist destination, it felt real. Unfortunately, you missed all the interesting and cool places to visit in Palermo. You need to go back with a local!

When I went to palermo on a work trip, we spent 2 days there just waiting on our flight out. So what do we do? Walk around the city. We never felt unsafe. Our plan was literally to walk until we found someone who would sell us a beer, drink it, and continue on to the next place that would sell us a beer.
My favorite part, by far, is that you dont feel like tourist like you would in rome. You are just inserted into the lives of regular Sicilians who are carrying on their daily life.

The south of Italy, is a full on authentic, transparent, chaotic experience.
At the same time, it’s peaceful, untouched and not spoken about, unless you know.
I hope it stays just like that, which I’m assuming it will.

  • @TravelbyDartTV

It's like the island said, "Let's throw in some ancient ruins, a dash of dramatic landscapes, and a pinch of organized chaos to keep things interesting." From the charming chaos of Palermo's markets to the laid-back luxury of its beaches, Sicily is basically a buffet of contradictions. I've been in Italy for our TV show but haven't visited Palermo. But seems worth a visit!

Guys Palermo is a bit of a tricky city if you don’t know your way around just focus on the city center max 1 or 2 days and go explore other areas in Sicily like the south and east coast or even close by towns like Cefalù or Monreale, Trapani and Erice, the islands just of the coast and there is so much more that deserves to be seen.. I’m originally from a town which is about 1 hour south from Palermo and believe me the atmosphere is completely different ❤ And by the way CANNOLO with an O 😂😂😂

Sicily is the BEST place in Italy to go for a beach vacation, because unlike most Italian coastline here you have so many beautiful white sand beaches. However the island is HUGE and has a lot to offer. You should give it another chance for a vacation with Ruby and have a little “dolce far niente” ❤️

I don’t feel your video and your overall mood on this particular trip did justice to the incredible natural, beauty, adventure, cultural and historical richness of the island. The video was very interesting, some things you said of course were just your perception, Sicily is great even for solo-travelers, the nightlife is vibrant and there are different partys in summer mostly at the beach. You could have picked some different destinations to make the best of out of the 7 days but so far you cover at least a side of Sicily, you could have spent more time in Catania and surrounding like Acitrezza. As a suggestion for next trip here you could go to Siracusa and from there explore the south part of Sicily until you get to Trapani. The stones of the roads are lava stones, used for construction in the area close to Etna, opposed to the white-yellowish constructions in the south area of Sicily made with sandstone. Life in Sicily is more slow like in any island on the world but is very rich as we have been colonized and influenced by different cultures in the past centuries, so in a so tiny region you can find a lot of difference. Thanks for covering Sicily in an honest way hope you'll be back and if you need help planning feel free to reach me.

Identical to my experiences in Bari Italy. Which is known for being a Mafia town. I was glared at, stared at, yelled at it Italian and felt unwelcome most places I went to be honest. Then I talked to some Italian friends and found out Bari and other nearby towns and Sicily don’t overly welcome foreigners and *can* feel quite lonely/dangerous for solo travellers

We don't welcome tourists in Sicily? We have millions of tourists coming every year and we are one of the most welcoming areas of Italy. He didn't even visit Palermo, he didn't show anything about it, he just focused on a boy who didn't want to be filmed. That has nothing to do with not being welcomed

Love the video. I am interested though in the blueprint you were talking about in this video, I am already a member of LCA. Look forward to your response Christian.

cool trip! I did it the opposite direction in 2 weeks, from Catania/Taormina all the way to Palermo but going what I think is the best part of Sicily, all the way down to Siracusa (amazing), Noto, Modica, Ragusa, Agrigento (valley of the temples, amazing!), Sciacca, Marsala, Erice (amazing!), San Vito lo capo, Scopello and back out from Palermo airport... I think you may have chosen the "wrong way round" missing out the best parts...!

@lostleblanc first and foremost thank you for doing this video. I am traveling to Sicily next month, and I wanted to know how you were able to get drone footage is so many cities. According to D-flight all the cities you got footage is a no fly zone. I really want to get some epic drone shots. Thanks in advance.

Just been to Sicily. Found the drivers to be crazy no road rules traffic is crazy. Lots of people are trying to rip you off and take your money. Food is hit and miss. You really have to look around for authentic good food. There's a few things to do, but it's tricky to get around. I'm from Australia, and the beaches are overrated on this island. Overall I had an average experience.

I wish you had like several episodes about Sicily. In this video, everything is super fast and crumpled.... OR if this video was 1hr and 30 min then, it would make more sense. Sicily is beautiful I was just there this Summer :)
