GT350 HALF SHAFTS INSTALL ON AN S550 MUSTANG GT - HOW LONG WILL THEY HOLD UP??

- Last weekend I tried launching the mustang at 4k RPM and snapped the driver side axle. After not seeing a whole lot of information on the "budget" GT350 axles that are supposed to be stronger than the GT's axles, I decided to give them a try and see how much they really can handle. We will be going back and trying the 4k RPM launches again and chasing an 11 second pass almost bone stock!
In this video you will see a complete step by step on how to replace the axles in a 2015-2017 Mustang. Each side takes about 20-30 minutes to complete if you work quickly!
Tools Needed:
- 10mm (socket or wrench)
- 13mm (socket or wrench)
- 14mm (socket or wrench)
- 15mm (socket or wrench)
- 18mm (socket or wrench)
- 7/8" (socket or wrench)
- 32mm socket (axle nut)
- 21mm socket (for wheels)
- Prybar/long screwdriver
- Floor jack/lift
- Jack stands
- Something to tie up the brake caliper

It should hold up longer than the stock one the 350 got some bulletproof parts nice and easy install 👍🏽
Time will tell! Will be going back to the track soon and try launching at 4k rpm again. Want that 11 second time slip so bad!
Looked like a pita compared to changing the gto axles. But glad to see it fixed. Now , about that 4K launch 🧐
Wasn't too bad actually! Took 20-30mins each side! The 4k launch and hopefully 11 second pass is coming soon! Maybe next month!

I'm replacing my 2021 GT's half shafts with driveshaft shop 2000HP Half shafts...we'll see how they go
Couldn't find a follow up video, how did these hold up? I am considering them too but if they don't hold much better than the standard S550 shafts, I will spend the extra on a better set.
Unfortunately I did not do a follow up video I ended up selling the car to buy land. But I did sell the car to a friend of mine and it's still holding up.... and he drives the car way harder than I ever drove this car!
I just bought them for my v6 mustang 2015 it’s funny I can’t never find a video on my car they said they fit on my v6 but only driver side fit for me and the passenger side seem so much longer . When I look at my part numbers they ain’t match up thing they sent me one wrong part?
Thats a good question. I would thing they would fit all years 2015 and up. If I remember right one side was a little longer than the stock axles, but it wasn't enough to make it not work. Might want to contact whoever you ordered them from. Very possible they had a mixup.
@Driveway Garage Mods as I recall, the longer of the two goes on the drivers side, Havocc...they should fit.
Why does it seem that all of a sudden these S550 rear ends are breaking left n right. Just the few years of abuse finally catching up?
Weak point of these cars. If you have a sticky tire and do any sort of hard launch its bound to happen, especiallywith stock parts! Just part of the game!
@@runsgoodbutsmokes gotcha. I’ve heard hit n miss with the MT82 as well. Currently building my bullet. Doing cams and oil pump gears myself and since I’m doing a new clutch figured I should have the MT82 built my Calimer. FBO E85 gutted is my goal for now, once everything is bullet proofed add boost.

@@runsgoodbutsmokes indeed..the stock half shafts are hollow with foam in them....they made them JUST good enough for stock daily driver application...People want to drive the Mustangs Hard....so they snap.
Any update on how they’ve been? Just snapped my axles lol
did u have gt350 axles or stock ones?
How they holding up
So far it's good. No issues yet, but I haven't been to the track yet
