THIS WAS FILMED IN JANUARY 2020. We got to spend 72 hours in Singapore and we certainly took advantage of our time there. We explored as many places as we could, ate as many different foods as our stomachs would allow and just throughly enjoyed our time there. Let us know what you thought of this video in the comments below, we love to hear from all of you:).
Much love all and we thank you so much for all the support we have been receiving!

You had an extensive experience and clear report of Singapore. Missed the housing estate living lifestyles of a multi-racial/language/religion/culture city. Singapore is in South East Asia at 3.5-hour flight to Hong Kong at North and Perth Australia at South. A 3-night stop-over when transiting Changi Airport is good enough. Weather in Oct-Dec is comfortable at 22-28C.

It's interesting you said that Singapore gave you the same vibes as Penang. In the early 1800s, Penang, Singapore and Malacca (Melaka) were grouped together and controlled as a collection of British Territories known as the "Straits Settlement". These places have a strong historical bond.

    • @ayo3850

Actually I kinda disagree cuz my mom is born in penang Malaysia and I'm a Singaporean. And whenever I go visit my relatives in penang, it feels different cuz like I see Singapore as more metropolitan but with trees but I see penang as this huge island with like more traditional places I guess? As they only have like what 3-4 malls interlinked at most? But it's more of countrysideXsomewhatmordern vibes while Singapore is just modern... That's how I feel lah just saying. Cuz honestly in Penang to have fun you need to travel to a lot of different places as they are spread out everywhere. But I love Penang cuz my fam is there and it's near escape hehe
I mean to me the vibe is just different coming from someone who has lived in penang and Singapore for quite a while.
I will always go to my relatives place every year without fail and explore the place with them and I guess I saw too much of penang to maybe have that feel. Ahaha, and I usually stay for about a week plus cuz of Chinese new year. We might go back from time to time like during the holidays. I also once stayed at penang for a whole month while my fam went back to Singapore cuz my dajiuma(great aunt?) and dajiu(great uncle?) owns a tuition centre and like they wanted me to help teach the kids English and my mom was like sure. Threw me to stay at my cousins house and just teach those kids English ahahahahha I mean I love my cousin so it was all right I guess. But she just gave me RM150 to survive for a whole month!!! 😂 like I somehow bugeted and like saved up and not spend too much. Cuz it was during the nov dec holidays. So like after a month my dad just took a bus to bring me back home lol. Normally we just drive from Singapore to penang cuz I have a big fam and it's easier to travel in penang with a car so.
It's been a long time since I went back to penang so I kinda forgot the names of the malls but I do remember the top cuz the name is just literally the top. Was there a pelangi? I honestly can't remember. But penang has really good tau sar pneah and the bakery it's from that makes it so good is him heang. Although the surroundings have this brand called ghee hiang, resist the urge cuz him heang ones are better and they are fresh right from the oven. That's why a lot of locals go there to get tau sar pneah.
Well it seems I babbled too much

Nice how you compare SG with Penang. Always felt Penang was like the Singapore we never had. A sense of familiarity but also different. Both cities had very similar origins. But we diverged in the sense that while Singapore's leadership went for the economy and building a commercial hub, Penang decided to major on preserving and promoting their culture. I guess the impact is evident, while Singaporeans have the spending power, Penang's got the feels.

We have more to offer if you ever come again such as our oriental gardens in the West (e.g the Chinese garden), our nature reserves and even historical sites in Sentosa. Moreover, do explore our hawker centres if you're ever back. They have a much greater variety and that's where you will definitely find us bustling locals because the food is just amazing. Just a tip, as Singapore is multi-cultural and multi-racial, to accommodate for our lovely Muslim community you would often find Halal / non-pork stores or options. Definitely worth checking them out for a non-pork eater yourself.

Thank you Rhett and Claire for your many good comments on our little red-dot country - Singapore.
I am glad that you enjoyed your 72-hr stay here.
The next time you drop by Singapore again, I suggest you visit another side of this country - the Heartland of Singapore.
Heartland refers to the many housing Estates (government built residences for 80% of Singaporean). These are self contained estates with its own shops, market, clinics, playgrounds, jogging parks etc, most notedly its own Hawker Centre. The foods at these hawker centres are slightly cheaper (mainly due to its lower rental for the vendor). The wanton noodle at $4.50 to $5.50 at Orchard road area can be purchased at $3.00 to $3.50 at these hawker centres.

Just found your vlog, glad you guys enjoyed Singapore! Happy that our tiny island was memorable.. Did you manage to do the MacRitchie walk? You already have the advise for pepper and dark soy sauce on soft boiled eggs yah? Order like a local: "Kopi siu tai" (coffee with milk but less sweet), "teh O kosong Kao" (black tea, without sugar, strong).. Or every kids favourite "Milo Godzilla" (cocoa drink on ice with extra cocoa powder topped up with ice-cream).. You could also take a gander round the neighbourhoods and try more local foods, like mee rebus, Perankan kueh, goreng pisang, rojak etc.. Or a short boat ride to Pulau Ubin?

Thanks for all the compliments. Noticed you've basically spent most of your days in the Orchard Road area (and Clark Quay), so you have missed out on other areas nearby such as Bugis, City Hall, Raffles Place, etc. Do visit us again! And yes, get an ezlink card which will make commuting even cheaper (did you try the MRT? you can cover more distance with the trains and go visit the heartlands.)

Singapore is very modern although it’s able to keep and maintain its old, traditional places. The only challenge is walking around in hot, sweltering heat. Oh, well. Southeast has only two weather - hot and hell. 🤷‍♀️

Have been going to Singapore for 50+ years, our last trip was in 2018 and spent 10 days there, thanks for the update, but you need to try the MRT next time to go places, there are so many Hawker Centres for food , my wife 40 years ago would not come with me on a business trip but relented when I said she could stay at the Mandarin in Orchard Road, after that we kept coming back on holidays every 2-3years, Life is to be travelled and enjoyed , Love the Video Fellini Flyer

fun fact: the trees on our roads are called rain trees and angsana trees. Role is to absorb the dusts and emissions from the vehicles on the roads. My science told me this back in school. Dunno how true that is but hey, more trees more oxygen. Thats a plus anyday!

Lucky Plaza is not a market. It's a shopping centre. A market in Singapore is not like this, lol. Search "wet market" in Singapore for what it really look like. I think the one nearest to city centre will be the ones in Chinatown or in Little India. Such as the Tekka Market. Our markets are not air-conditioned.

Just woke up, and what a great way to start a morning by watching Rhett and Claire. Never been to Singapore but so far, only hear from people and see it on UA-cam and I must say the world should mirror it to make it a better world. I'm sure it has its' dark side but who isn't. Singapore is the one country I hope Viet Nam can become someday, civilized and clean!

Did you read what I said, "I wish" VN CAN one day be civilized and clean like Singapore? You must be one of those trolls who go around the internet saying stuffs and bully people because he's too chicken shit to say it to peoples' faces. Does it make you feel like a man being rude to some random people you don't even know? Sad!

A tip from a local and also a world traveller
The next time you are here (also every where in the world) get a taxi uncle to bring you to local eating places. That same chilli crab will cost you half the price :)

The chlli crab doesn't cost that expensive in normal food centres in Singapore for e.g. the price of the food centres ones is about 18 or 20 plus dollars but this is the marina bay so it's a tourist area so more expensive

might be, just because it is very messy...just don't like having all that sauce over my fingers! But as you said, go for it as a one time experience if you had not tried it. Was there in 2018. Love the city...beautiful, advanced and clean, except the heat and humidity. Never thought of using a sweatband to absorb the beads of perspiration from falling down my face like a waterfall ( which was really publicly embarrassing), but had a little hand held USB fan to cool myself. August, the time I was there was probably the hottest time in Singapore. Will use a sweatband next time I'm there, once the dreadful COVID19 pandemic is over.

I don’t understand why people object to food courts. I love them. As a solo traveler it’s usually the best place to go for good cheap local eats. Also food courts or hawkers are so popular and we’ll known in Singapore. As for the broth you had it’s very common in Cantonese cuisine. It’s typically vegetable or bone broth with celery and pepper. Usually served as a clear broth.
