Vicuña is what you saw, not alpaca. Vicuña is most expensive fabric on earth (thousands per kilo) and heavily protected. Alpaca is domesticated, not protected. Vicuña are the skinny very graceful looking ones. The heavier messy looking ones are guanaco, also not domesticated and equally as expensive

Hi we didn't and I cannot say I saw anyone with one on the trip. It may not be possible in those parts.
