Beijing has very stable steam centralized heating systems ,and it is affordable for 24 hours warm inside the apartments , so I am still preferred to live in northern China even it’s cold in winter. I left Beijing in 2012 , I don’t know right now how to buy a subway card , but it was very easy to buy from the front desk of the subway’s stations or just buy one from Taobao , nowadays people in China mostly use their cellphone to take public transportation , we have never had been asked ID when buy the subway card before. If you have any transportation card in any China provinces, just use it , it is universal card throughout the whole country.

Or an Android phone. If it is an iPhone, try switching your country/region back to Canada. If it is an Android phone, are you having trouble installing it from the Play Store? What does the failure message say or how it behaves when it fails?
There are a lot of Chinese Tea shops in Tongzhou District. For example, Wu Yu Tai吴裕泰 and Zhang Yi Yuan张一元. These shops are where we locals go. And if you wanna eat Western cuisine, San Li Tun and Liang Ma river area has many restaurants you can choose from. If you wanna eat Beijing Roast Duck, you can go to the 小大董. Have a good time in Beijing!

My experience with google maps in China is they are highly inaccurate. The hotel I was looking for was off by like 500m. Try their Chinese map apps.
And also use Beido navigation system. More accurate.

主要是需要激活这个卡才能用，去年开始的要用身份证注册，外国人是用护照通过健康宝(healthykit)激活，但是健康宝现在都不用了不知道还能不能行，就离谱，去年的政策出了现在没人管了
