    you add some great info in your videos mate and I like how you go about your work. Great work ethic. I like taking on the odd job like this myself but getting materials can be a nightmare at the moment and my local merchant for timber recently closed. It was a fencing company but you could get everything in one place. decking, gates, specials made and so on....

      Thanks pal. Materials have been really tough and sadly think it'll get worse for a while yet. Lots of my fencing jobs have been delayed due to concrete issues. Thanks for watching and hope your keeping busy 👍

    Another top job mate. I think it will become more popular if they can get the price down a bit more. People don’t see the benefits of paying extra for the longevity of it I don’t think.

      Thanks pal. This is the second composite deck this year with one other booked in. For a DIY material this is fairly reasonable at 12.50£ per 2.2m .

    Nice video, just wanted to ask which model circular saw you used to cut the sleepers?

  • @LawnRight
    @LawnRight 3 роки тому

    Chris, thank you for doing this. I wish you lived closer. DIY isnt my strong point but this makes it seem possible. At the back of the decking is it a house, clad with composite boards? I saw you hung a wood length into it for the decking. Anyway thanks

    • @TheCountryCottageGardener
      @TheCountryCottageGardener  3 роки тому

      The building behind is a composite clade garage. I built the frame separate from that as it isn't the clients, but if it was theirs then I would have done that. Most DIY tasks are easy when broken down into small parts 🤣

  • @stevehiggins1263

    Nice looking deck, how will the treated wood fair sitting directly on the dirt? I assume it's protected but was curious if it would be longer lasting on a gravel base? I am considering a shed build at home in the upcoming weeks and was looking to build a timber base similar to the deck base.

    • @TheCountryCottageGardener
      @TheCountryCottageGardener  3 роки тому

      None of the decking frame is sat on the soil, the sleeper is and will eventually rot like all timber. When I build shed bases I try to build them onto sleepers or a concrete slab. If you lay timber onto a concrete slab best to wrap it in a BPM. I did this in my summerhouse video.

    I fitted this board a couple of years ago and on one of the boards a crack appeared and then a hole. I contacted B&Q and they said I have installed it incorrectly apparently I should have left a 20mm expansion gap around the edges and the joists should have been at 300mm centres - I left 10mm and did the joists at 350mm!

    • @hungrywolf4903
      @hungrywolf4903 Рік тому

      20 mm expansion gap is bs i reckon, that'd be huge and ugly, and surely won't be 20

    Hi mate great job! I've almost completed my composite decking area using the same boards from B&Q, did you notice a spring noise coming from any of the clips when walking over the boards? only a few areas are making the noise - maybe they need tightening down a bit more?

    Good job and really useful video as i've started to install one with a step but not sure about the corners and edges. I have the L profile edge strip for the vertical corners and the Aluminum parts i presume (?) for the 'bull-nose' of the step (?), but not sure..... do you or anyone have any advice, where do i find instructions for how to install these parts? (not sure which to fit)

    • @TheCountryCottageGardener
      @TheCountryCottageGardener  3 роки тому +1

      Hi. Thanks for your comment. The bullnose will be just for the steps. Am guessing you've got solid boards? These can be screwed down directly. If yo do that I'd pre drill and counter sink the holes. With the L profiles I just use a good all contact adhesive. Which brand is the decking too?

    • @kened6866
      @kened6866 3 роки тому

      @@TheCountryCottageGardener Thanks for getting back. the deck boards are hollow, the B&Q Neva same as you;ve fitted, there are no instructions. seems to me that contact adhesive will be kicked off eventually by foot-fall and there's no way of hiding the fixing. i note that in your video you've screwed the 'riser' i.e. side of deck before placing the L strip.

    Great video. I’m about to do a deck with the same B&Q boards. I wasn’t sure if you left an expansion gap between the butted ends? Is it needed for these boards? I have only got the clips that go between rows, not the starter angled ones. Did you get these from B&Q too, as I can’t find them. Thanks

    • @TheCountryCottageGardener
      @TheCountryCottageGardener  3 роки тому

      Hi Paul. Thank for watching. In the b and q clip pack you will have a few starter clips too. On the face board I screwed these in without a gap as it it's two boards going together. Good luck with your project, I think b and q have a long delivery time currently

      @@TheCountryCottageGardener thanks for the reply - haven’t tipped the box out yet, so didn’t know that! I’ve got an 8m run, so will have 4 boards butted in a row. • @TheCountryCottageGardener
      @TheCountryCottageGardener  3 роки тому

      In the box you should have some plastic spacers which you can use. I go for a 6mm gap. If am using more than one face board I'll put a gap in to keep the same look. Which colour did you go for? My local store only stocks the dark grey not this lighter one.

      Yes, it’s the dark grey I’ve got. I’m doing a 1st floor balcony. Decided to lay it directly on the existing wooden one, as I think the air flow underneath will allow it to still dry out.

    • @TheCountryCottageGardener
      @TheCountryCottageGardener  3 роки тому +1

      I did another decking video in a balcony area. That might be of interest to you. Personally I'd take any old decking up and maybe (if good) use the old frame.

    • @TheCountryCottageGardener

      Because it a material made up of several elements. In this case wood and plastic bounded together to make decking.
