I think you guys are right on the money. We’re not gonna see clearance again in the same way for a long time. It’s time to start being more selective about what we buy and asking if full retail price is worth it. Seeing figures marked down to 19.99 might be the norm for any discounts we see.
Isn't it wild that pre-covid figures were about $20-24 with tax. In 2024 we are at the $26-30 range now and still have to pay tax and the shipping if you are going the online route. You've paid close to $40 bucks for a figure that once upon a time would have been 24/25 bucks tops. I even remember seeing 19.99 in local comic/toy shops and that was the regular price. Gone are the days, gotta have laser focus when collecting lol.
Cable is 41$ on Amazon right now and not on BBTS or Hasbro pulse. You can’t find one in a store either. I WONT pay 40$ for a 25$ figure. If this keeps up I’m just forgetting about marvel stuff. I stopped collecting MLS for years because of this exact reason. Hasbro has continued to be extremely non consumer friendly.
Yeah that whole Ollie’s run really “spoiled” a lot of folks. I remember before the vamp shipped out I seen a few guys saying “they’ll wait for it to hit Ollie’s for $30” like yeah good luck with that
It's hard to compare e-tailers with retailers. Any products in stores will be placed on clearance or promo if they do not sell. While most e-tailers purchase just enough to fill orders and don't typically place back orders. We are at a point in time where consumers are beginning to reject higher prices in the form of waiting for sales or buying smaller items. Economics 101: When consumers pay high prices for food and energy they begin to curb spending on discretionary items. Hasbro may have over produced some items to meet heavy demand throughout 2022. If they cannot sell these items at discounted prices then they must liquidate an amount of the product at cost. Retailers like Ross specialize in purchasing this liquidated stock to offer ridiculous prices. Get ready to see more clearance items. I would imagine any item on Hasbro's outlet deal may end up in an Ollie's somewhere so keep hunting yo!
The one consistent theme with all of the toy companies is the lack of marketing. I can't think of a product that had some actual work put towards making the general public aware of the line. I've been collecting for over twenty years and I didn't know that McFarlane had a website with in-house product until last year. The average consumer expects to see the products in the store aisles. Companies are leaving money on the table when they don't put out advertising for the toys they make. I bet if u ask a 100 people what is 5Ktoys you will get 0 correct answers.
You aren't wrong. To know of all these toy websites, you pretty much either have to have them recommended to you or stumble upon it. Gone are the days of toy commercials.
I checked out on the ML line once they hiked up the price to $25 a figure. I sold off my collection on evil Bay in the past 18 months. Now just collect certain comic based figures from Mafex. Superior sculpt, articulation and way more accessories. since I'm only ordering comic based figures, I'm only spending about $300-$400 a yr on the Mafex line. And they cost $30-$40 less when ordered straight from Japan compared to buying them via American sellers.
Imo i think you guys are half right. Comic figures especially x men and spiderman characters forget it. Those arent clearancing for a long time. But MCU figures absolutely will be discounted for characters no one wants/hate.Future figures like Sam Wilson Cap, Monica Rambeau, Cassie Lang etc will pegwarm and be clearanced. Heavy hitters like the eventual DP3 Wolverine will sell like hot cakes and not go on clearance. Hasbro isnt dumb. They know exactly how to do this
Why do you guys think mcu and non jim lee xmen despite being popular always peg warm. Mcu figures flood the Wal-Mart clearance isle and i always see xmen legends go to ross. Ive seen multiple xmen waves hit ross i even picked up spiral from ross for 6 bucks. What do you think the disconnect is? Is xmen not as popular as it may seem or what?
i think it just depends on the xmen. I would imagine xmen would sell better now as we're seeing with the xmen 97 wave but when that last round of retro card figures came out there really wasn't any hype for the average person to be looking for xmen figures. Especially characters like spiral, avalanche and long shot. you'd have to already be a fan of xmen to want them.
X-men is not known to mainstream the same way. Only hardcore legends collectors and general x-men fans will get these characters. The casual not a collector yet or just dipping toes and watched movies can’t jump in to comic characters like that. Remember gen z did not get any animated x-men cartoon or video game exposure since 2011. So that reduced the awareness and interest. X-men 97 is the start of interest for any gen z that didn’t have knowledge before of deep cut characters
I can agree, it’s sad bc all the clearance ruined it and I love a good deal but I can’t find anything in store anymore bc of distribution my target only has nefario for legends and lando and hk-87 for black series
I’ve still never seen any of the retro Ironman figures in store. My stores have the newer mcu figures and then is the hydra stomper wave and Cassie lang wave.
I definitely agree 💯 with you about Marvel Legends no longer going on clearance ..i believe that the combination of MUCH BETTER product & much LESS production will lead to the MAJORITY of figures released in 2024 will lead to many figures being SOLD OUT For some reason tho i still see MANY comments on these videos saying "I'll WAIT to pick it up on CLEARANCE!" Guess they'll have to learn the hard way!
Yeah for me if I really like a figure I want to buy it at full price to show Hasbro I’m glad it’s made. There might be some figures I “wait for clearance” on but they are figures I don’t really want and won’t be sad if I miss them entirely.
Those 2023 ross/ollie finds spoiled everyone lmao we should have seen this when coming when waves became online and specialty retail exclusive. I guess its more important now to just try and preorder the figures you want/ or ones you feel like are more harder to come by like that zabu cable
one thing I learned from almost every business I worked with and for. they rather sell out completely than to have to discount and lose significant profits
Speaking as a collector in central Missouri, I’ve never seen the abundance of Legends on store shelves that major metropolitan area collectors always seem to be finding on Instagram & Twitter. Most of the time, my local Walmart might only get a single case of a Marvel Legends wave, and that’s if they even get the newest waves at all! Plus, they’re terrible about clearancing unsold product. Want a Spider-Woman from Across the Spider-Verse? Give me a call! She’s yours for $24.99 plus shipping. My local Target only ever stocked Bishop, Magneto, Wolverine and Gambit from the first X-Men ‘97 wave. And if I didn’t order Storm or Rogue online? I was just simply out of luck. And we don’t have Ollie’s in this area. If production truly is slowing down, I’m very concerned for what that means for collectors in situations like mine. 😢
I think for everyone they need to stop counting on finding figures on shelves and be getting their preorders in online. I feel like my 4 targets in the area split 2 cases. Each one will get 2 figures from a wave and almost never a full wave.
I think the problem for the most part was Hasbro going windowless. Collectors couldn’t cheery pick or you couldn’t tell if the figure you wanted was even in the box. Now with legends you can see how wonderful the figure is before buying
They just had 2 waves of xmen 97 and man thing. There really haven't been any other movies or shows to pull from yet. Deadpool movie figures will be coming.
I haven't seen Marvel Legends in stores for months anyways, aside from that one time I was in another city and saw a lone Angel and Captain America. Preorders for Cable sold out on the same day they went up on every website I know of. I'll just get a different Cable when/if I can afford it next, as I know that's never coming to stores and I'm not willing to pay $50-70 to some eBay scalper for something that should be widely available.

I also can’t help but believe that the cooling off period for the MCU has greatly benefited Marvel Legends. I should probably clarify that last statement. Phase One of the MCU saved Marvel Legends. Post Endgame MCU was killing Marvel Legends.

Got Icarus for $10, fan channel figures releases might have a different strategy like batch pre orders like ghost rider selling out then coming back again and then selling out they’re gonna be very cautious now.

what do you mean? nerdzoic was saying they probably won't even get as much as they ordered. yeah that means they technically aren't sold out when they say they are but that really only leaves a few extras after the fact.
Hasbro will be more careful in how many figures they produce. But some comic figures will always sell out, such as Spiderman and Wolverine. Thats why they make so many of them. Others you will continue to find on clearance, but mostly C and D level heroes and villains that arent as popular, as well as many of the MCU figures.
You notice since Todd joined marvel as well as he's brand DC multiverse their starting too make less an are starting too get harder too get plus preorders starting too be put on back orders plus the secondary market SCALPERS prices are going crazy for certain figures
Eh you don’t really catch us calling scalper ever. I think if it’s an exclusive and people want it sells out because of low quantity being made. Some exclusives sit for quite a while.

@@carloscunningham319 We've pretty much stopped wasting our time in stores. 4 or 5 might be a lot but i could easily pick up that many if i found something and knew a couple buddies wanted something. if its a retro card that's pretty common to have one open and one sealed. so between me and jordan and one friend I'd need 6 of the same figure if we all wanted one open and one sealed. maybe they are a scalper but I'll probably just buy online and not worry about it.

i guess we'll see. I really doubt it though if Namorita, Crystar, midnight suns ironman, namor, etc haven't seen clearance yet. Really doubt Dracula will be hard to sell. Bloodstorm and Lilith? maybe $5 off. nothing crazy though.
It’s true they are currently cutting 20% production runs of all toy lines except transformers and gi joe classified at this time. The MCU died and the legends waves died with, less mixed waves and more fan channel exclusive waves means lower production runs right off the jump.
Fans boycott hasbro last year with their crazy pricing, cheap lazy figures and we got lots and lots of clearanced figures. They fired their employees and started making semi better figures BUT very limited, so that's why most of the good figures in 2024 are very hard to get/find. 🤦🏼♂️
@@slibertas1996 I would be surprised if Storm sells out quick, Helverine might but still doesn't seem like a super hot seller since he doesn't come with a baf part and he's 2 per case. Dracula would be my guess as the first in the wave to sell out but i'm not sure.
I think you are very wrong. Some figure’s always, ALWAYS! Sells out. But honestly there will always be clearances. Because especially target. And as a long, long time collector I AM PULLING FOR CLEARANCES! I do not want to pay $25 to $35 a figure. And some of these $50 figures, no way in this lifetime am I paying that much. So the whole market can crash and burn before I pay that much. I have switched to a on sale and clearance shopper five years ago during the first price hike from $18 to $20 I seen the writing on the wall. I have 6000 figures and I will not on the most part pay full price. I may miss a few but the ones I miss are like venom, carnage, wolverine, Deadpool and such and most of us have at least 5 or 6 of each so who cares. So I am either a on sale or clearance buyer or a not at all buyer. And the companies can go broke for all I care.
I used to be like that as well, but distribution is terrible where I live and it's somehow gotten even worse these past few years. If I can't afford to get something when I first see it in a shop, chances are high I'm never seeing it again.

What do you think would be the best way to advertise? I see a lot of of social media advertisements for Hasbro and McFarlane at least.

I think with most of the comic based figures that's going to be the case. mostly switching to an adult collector market vs kids is my guess.
My friend found 13 Mojo box sets selling for $10 Canadian dollars each at a Clearance liquidation store...

I feel like Todd's been doing that forever. And any McFarlane Toy Store exclusive figure gets scalped to death, like Victor Zsasz and Catman.
Eh you don’t really catch us calling scalper ever. I think if it’s an exclusive and people want it sells out because of low quantity being made. Some exclusives sit for quite a while.

@@carloscunningham319 We've pretty much stopped wasting our time in stores. 4 or 5 might be a lot but i could easily pick up that many if i found something and knew a couple buddies wanted something. if its a retro card that's pretty common to have one open and one sealed. so between me and jordan and one friend I'd need 6 of the same figure if we all wanted one open and one sealed. maybe they are a scalper but I'll probably just buy online and not worry about it.

the newest batch reveals of marvel legends will be the newest batch of clearance. dracula, lilith?! Only phoenix will sell there.
i guess we'll see. I really doubt it though if Namorita, Crystar, midnight suns ironman, namor, etc haven't seen clearance yet. Really doubt Dracula will be hard to sell. Bloodstorm and Lilith? maybe $5 off. nothing crazy though.
It’s true they are currently cutting 20% production runs of all toy lines except transformers and gi joe classified at this time. The MCU died and the legends waves died with, less mixed waves and more fan channel exclusive waves means lower production runs right off the jump.
I think I’m ok with that. As much as I love sales theyer doing a great job with the figures.
Fans boycott hasbro last year with their crazy pricing, cheap lazy figures and we got lots and lots of clearanced figures. They fired their employees and started making semi better figures BUT very limited, so that's why most of the good figures in 2024 are very hard to get/find. 🤦🏼♂️
Yeah it seems they’ve got the number closer with what they have out this year with what people are actually wanting.

@@slibertas1996 I would be surprised if Storm sells out quick, Helverine might but still doesn't seem like a super hot seller since he doesn't come with a baf part and he's 2 per case. Dracula would be my guess as the first in the wave to sell out but i'm not sure.

I do not want to pay $25 to $35 a figure. And some of these $50 figures, no way in this lifetime am I paying that much.
So the whole market can crash and burn before I pay that much. I have switched to a on sale and clearance shopper five years ago during the first price hike from $18 to $20 I seen the writing on the wall. I have 6000 figures and I will not on the most part pay full price. I may miss a few but the ones I miss are like venom, carnage, wolverine, Deadpool and such and most of us have at least 5 or 6 of each so who cares.
So I am either a on sale or clearance buyer or a not at all buyer. And the companies can go broke for all I care.

I used to be like that as well, but distribution is terrible where I live and it's somehow gotten even worse these past few years. If I can't afford to get something when I first see it in a shop, chances are high I'm never seeing it again.
I disagree big time. Ive seen the new stuff. There will be plenty of clearance items.
So far nothing from mindless one or void have hit clearance.
