  • It took a while in time to redo some parts of the hoist mechanism of the Graupner Theodor Heuss 1963 kit. It was masterfully created long ago. But needed to be refreshed.
I wanted some parts and solutions more compact and positioned differently as before. And accessible!
All is rewired with silicone insulated strand wire, 22AWG, because these wires have more flex than PVC ones. Put less strain on soldering joints when touched. The original wirering had become very brittle. New wirering route isn't optimized yet... but for the primery tests in fine working order.
Al movements work in line with micro switches. The proces can be reversed during operation, but have to finish their run up to the breaker switches to full stop all.
I dit this run on a 5V UBEC (HobbyKing), but on a 6,6V of a LifePo4 runs way speedier.
There are two quite classic electric motors used in this set up.
At first you think, hey that is a strange charming brass motor... 'must be weak', 'must be old'...
But the tiny brass motor is historic. Dates from 1955 and is called teh Bühler Messing Motor (Messing = Brass in German).
In short... It's succes in the toy industry layed the path for the current Bühler motors.
Today a very innovative factory, a standard for high quality. Quite some story!
The Brass Motor controls the hatch unit.
The second motor is the geard Marx Miliperm + Pile gear. Small motor with a planetary gearbox.
Marx-Luder brand didn't make it on the run, lost on Mabuchi's durable can motor.
But the Marx are well made, survive and have stand their time.
Very fine in this task and compact, fits in the time frame of the boats origin.
The white open switches date from way back too. The red ones are recently aquired, still made in Germany. All a bit more logical and less vunarable connected... and the better wire...
The hatch was build up from a casting in epoxy, the plug a remodeled original part.
Inner work, the frames and rolers are an impression on what foto's showed of the past.
Took time to resaerch and then finalize in a practical drawing, and translate to a model.
It is not exact scale, but 'feels close' to...
Enjoy!... Note: Movie was made to illustrate on a modelbuilders forum.
This is just a fase in the building process.

Looks like a very clever and solution. Looking better than the metal "lasso" on the Bermpohl.
